Wicked Little Letters certainly isn't the profane riotous period comedy that the trailer would have made you believe, instead focusing on a social commentary drama sprinkled with doses of eccentricity and comedy.
The two lead stars do everything they can to elevate a script which is a slight mish mash of tones and genres, never fully embracing it's quirky indie feel. It's fun in places and the drama mostly works, but doesn't quite land with either the outrageous hilarity or the stirring emotional journeys.
