Thank you so much for over 7,400 subscribers - I'm really glad you're all enjoying the walks around the UK - there are certainly a lot more to come :) One of the highlights of a visit to Wick is the world's shortest street, Ebenezer Place, which took its title in 2006 from another British street - Elgin Street in the Lancashire town of Bacup! Elgin Street was 5.02m/17ft long, twice as long as Ebenezer Place in Wick! So, Bacup is on the list of places to visit next!

My mum came from Wick, met my dad there and married in Bridge St Church in 1943. Spent many a happy hour there.

Was born and brought up there, left when I was 19. It was a very bubbly and thriving town when I was there. Proud to be a Weeker.

Thank you for this, and greetings from Orlando, Florida. I had the pleasure of travelling to Wick in September of 1999. I took my pipes and played in front of the HMS Exmouth graves in the local cemetery. You see, it was my grandfather 's ship. It was sunk with all hands just off the coast with all hands. A week later several bodies washed ashore at Wick. His name was John Richard Watts, my mothers dad. I did this for him, the crew, and our family. He was from Worcester. My GI father was a commercial fisherman. That fit with the comradery of all seamen. I hope to return back there again some day.

Another great walk about. Just love the way every town, no matter where or how big, has so much history about it. And just love the way you share that history with us. Thanks for the great video, half of my family are from Wick, i was there about 5 years ago. I never knew about the prohibition period, my grandfather kept that quiet, no wonder he and many of his friends joined the merchant navy!

Another great walk with interesting history as well...i remember being in John O Groats 17 years ago it was still broad daylight at 11.45 pm...we had driven from the lake disrict i fell asleep as soon as i got to the bb...great memories.. Thanks once again.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - I too am from England and before making some of these videos I knew next to nothing about the great history of Scotland, I wish I'd been taught it at school :) But certainly, visits to towns like Wick really open up the country's history - and I'm so happy you found this an interesting watch!

I lived in Wick for a few years about 10 years ago and barely nothing has changed just a few shops names I have walked all the places you went to and more I loved living there. I lived near to the Old Pulteney Town Distillery the smell of whiskey filled the air most days Thanks for the memories :)

I moved to Lybster at the end of September and stayed for a year before the company I was hired by went into liquidation. I moved down the road to Tain now, but loving my Scottish adventure!

I love your walks. I especially enjoy the way you research so much before setting out. I grew up in Thurso 20 miles north of here and then Wick was a no-go zone for us Thurso yoofs, the same as Thurso was a no-go zone for Wick yoofs. So, even though I lived in Thurso for 20 years, I rarely visited Wick. So this walkabout is a lovely way to see all the parts of the town it was a bit risky for me to visit then. Thank you.

Thank you for the walk. Brings back memories. Good to see the sign on The Hsrbour Mission wall is still there". Christ died for our sins." A wee church with a great Gospel message.

"Teet in, hear yarns" means "Peek inside (the window or door) and listen to the gossip or stories (of the people living or working inside. Where you were would have been a busy, bustling area of the harbour in the past.

Hello. There's some good solid buildings. They look so robust.

Tomas Telford was a marvelous designer and engineer for he's time. I love he's buildings being a stone Waller my self.

Brilliant walk again. I drove through Wick on my 2,000 mile learning to drive tour of Scotland in 1969, we actually did the North Coast 500 before it became famous. Re the Nordic Caithness flag, the flag of the West Riding of Yorkshire is also of the Scandinavian type with a cross of St. George offset towards the hoist and a Yorkshire rose in a blazing sun at its centre which is known as rose en soleil.

I'm really glad you enjoyed the video - Wick is home to some fantastic history and it's a great stop on a drive as spectacular as the NC500 - again that sounds like the most amazing way to have learnt to drive :) Indeed you're right about the West Riding too - it's amazing how much of that Viking heritage is still on display in England and Scotland!

Great video. I am going there shortly. It will be interesting to see where my relative lived when he was stationed there during the war. I have a lovely letter showing the hospitality he and his wife received from the landlady. I missed your commentary.

I love Scotland. I love what is Scottish. I love the Scots.

I am due to stay in Wick on longest day, 21st June. I didnt know about Ebenezer Place so that's got to be seen

I see the Alexander Bain is a Wetherspoons pub. I'm of two opinions of this brand. On the one hand, they offer good deals on food and beer. Whenever I'm over there, I find myself using them. Another good thing is that they take existing buildings that may be derelict but historic, and maintain them instead of them being torn down. On the bad side, they move in and cause traditional pubs and restaurants to go out of business because they can't compete.

I've never actually been to a Wetherspoons myself - somehow out of coincidence, but one thing I can absolutely say is they really are proud of the history of their pubs. There are few resources for learning the history of smaller town as rich as the Wetherspoons website, which has in-depth information about the historic pub buildings as you mention, and the towns as a whole, it always really helps me out in my research :) Thank you so much for watching - I really do hope you enjoyed the video!

Great video thanks. Am loving seeing this area again. Are you going to the Black isles. My Orkney born 3 x grandfather grew up in Avoch before moving to nz. There’s something mystical about being up there. I know what you mean about the late night light. I got some beautiful sunsets up there. Thx again.

Renewable energy in the form of wave or tidal power is going to be a major job creator in Caithness and Orkney in the coming years. Furthermore the North Coast 500 route is bringing lots of additional revenue to the Highlands. The larger settlements like Wick and Thurso [ yes, by Highland standards these are major towns] will , I expect capitalise on this by fostering independent small businesses and sprucing up the appearance of the towns. They could also improve their marketing. Thurso for e.g has a fine beach, one of many in the area, but doesn't often promote this fact.

Most of my family live in wick we live outside it -ten mins away from it I'd say

BUT both lovely old Town's.....p.s another place which people would love is not far from where I am now is ELY in The Fen's/ Cambridgeshire....Ely cathedral is a joy to behold...... Great Video's..

I was born and bred in Wick and never ever heard of Fergusmas! I don't know where you got your information from but it is a load of rubbish! If it was from a local, be assured they were having a laugh at your expense and are probably still leaughing up their sleeve.

What a complete nonsense. Are you an American lost in the North of England, not realising you are in Scotland? Just to affirm that Wick is a town in Scotland and the people are very much proud of that. Jibber jabber tourist blag. Would be a good video if the author didn’t forget he wasn’t in a Norwegian town, or in England.
