    Loved these tips! Especially in regards to not focusing on only the details but the story of the couple. Many couples see the generic wedding films online and think that’s every film but we have to convince them that their story’s is worth more than a slow motion montage. We’ve been digging much deeper with our couples lately and they loved us for it because we gave them something they weren’t even expecting.

    I've heard you say 'start with a moment' a few times and it's really stuck with me. When I sit down to edit a new film, I'm looking for that moment rather than drone shot, detail, detail, detail.

    I actually didn’t have a second shooter for this one. This was a Covid ceremony with just the couple and their parents. I had 2x C100 mark iis with a 135 on the left and the right. A Canon EOS R for a lower angle shot, and then a GH5 Handheld capture a mix of parents and dialogue 💪

    I was actually talking about the one towards the end of the video. The groom with the beard. I mean they both look fantastic lol But I was impressed by the amount of different angles and they all look so perfectly framed and focused. That’s hard to do during a ceremony.

    I love the idea of chasing the story, do you have a template/guide on how to do that? For example, I’m totally guilty of the 30 second b roll intro, but it’s a cookie cutter plan I have for the day off that gives me a mental checklist so that I can “feel” organized and accomplished by the end of it. So what kind of checklist/approach do you take to be a “journalist” on the wedding day?

  • @WaywardNorth

    @WaywardNorth

    Ай бұрын

    I totally get the mental checklist keeping you on track. My wedding day questionnaires help me so much in the early stages of getting to know the couple. Something I’ve been doing lately is filming a story session with the couple. Interview style where they recount their story to each other. This gives me more opportunity to truly get to know their story before the day. On the day, it’s really about being present. Listening to the conversations in the room, studying the faces and reactions, and using all the material you have to build off of throughout the day. And sometimes even with an ironclad game plan and strategy, some of the best weddings are combination of spontaneity. You can’t always prepare for the speeches being well rehearsed, an emotional first look, heartfelt vows, sometimes the stars align and you’re in the right place at the right time but the more you can do to prepare, the more luck you’ll end up having.
