After I made sure to moisturize my ends regularly & sleep with a satin bonnet or satin pillowcase my hair really retained length. Adding henna & protein treatments helped, but sleeping on cotton and letting my ends dry out and break off was the reason my hair didn't get super long.

@@ladyofwisdom2 lol, I am like you and did not have a good regimen under the wigs, and only washed monthly or a tad longer (didn't want to face the 4c wash day), then I started strict wash and deep condition every two weeks and keeping my scalp especially my disrespectful crown area very moisturised and added good oils to the scalp. The difference in my hair health is night and day, and now I can see some growth in the crown which was literally stuck. Finally I now think I can get past some plateaus, but I know it will not be quick in the crown, it hates me lol.

My hair is fine ( low density and small hair shaft) low porosity and is super soft. So every time I go to a hairdresser there is a whole discussion among the hairdressers as to what they can do with my hair because it’s so fine and super soft. So imagine my struggle with my hair. Wearing it out…breakage, washing my hair …breakage, touching my hair ….breakage, protective styles… less breakage but still breakage, heat ….surprisingly less breakage. My hair is well pasted my back and basically has been the same length for over 8 years. I think fine hair is just more fragile because of the low cuticle layers. Oh well!!!

Ive been stuck at armpit length for a few years. Then I had a baby and dealt with post-partum shedding and my hair was a mess. I ended up doing a trim and keeping my hair in protective styles like 99% of the time. It is now slowly growing past that length but I’m still experiencing excessive shedding and I feel that is what’s keeping me from passing this plateau. I’m taking all the vitamins, exercising, drinking lots of water, moisturizing almost daily, wash and condition/deep condition when needed but idk what else to do.

I was getting a ton of shedding then I looked in to black tea rinses . The caffeine in the tea stops the hair from shedding . Instantly made a difference. Also I realized I was brushing my hair wayyy too hard . I work in small sections with the detangling brush . Also only use detangling brush or wide tooth comb on your hair and only detangle the hair is wet and has conditioner.

I realized in order to get past a certain length, shoulder length or a little longer, I HAD to protective style my hair ( in mini box braids since March). I will admit I use a lot of protein (I spray rice water every day) and can’t tell if it’s had a negative affect on my hair but when I rebraid I barely have shed hair so 🤷🏾‍♀️ idk. I don’t really have a hair plateau now, but my hair is now waist length and it shrinks a lot ! I see that it isn’t growing as fast as it used to when it was much shorter. I have 3c hair and what works best for me is doing twists and stretching my hair. I’m also high porosity... my hair is so weird, my hair is healthy but it grows out a higher porosity and my ends are a lower porosity normally it’s the other way around. I did have a few heat damaged end but they are hard to see. I did twists and they grew out so fast and I finally cut it. I want my hair to be in its curly state waist length that’s the goal. My hair shrunken up is armpit length.

I think it's even better to wear a bonnet along with your silk pillow case. When I have my hair on just the pillow case I experience the same

I don’t trim/cut my hair often ( since I bc in dec2017 I’ve cut 3 inches sept 2019 and half an inch yesterday (June 25). However if I wore my hair out more I would only cause my hair would break off if I didn’t (and it has). Definitely look it different things you can try one at a time. Hair grows but something your doing is cause your hair to break off.

I was at ear length for more than 20 years.....Though I use hair masks since 1991, my hair still was at the same length. It was a bit longer when I relaxed it for 6 years. I found out what I was doing wrong all those years in 2018. Now the longest part of my hair is on it's way to reach arm pit length and it's still growing. That feeling I have right now, that my hair 'can' grow long, is still unbelievable ☺😃
