Why your check valve is losing the prime and how to prevent it from happening.

This video show how a small pebble can cause the check valve to stay open making the pump lose the prime. I added a screen to stop any rocks or pebbles from reaching the check valve. This method really helps. Please leave any comments to let me know what you think.

Thanks! Great idea. What about putting pieces of hose at each end of check valve and hose clamps to make it easier to change in the future? Thanks again for the help.

So sorry for not replying back sooner. I only used the bushing because the suction line was 1-1/2 and my check valve was 2"

Would it be possible for a pump to lose prime if it hadn’t rained in like two weeks? Pulling water from a well, tried priming and will not prime, even added a check valve.

won't the gaps on each side of the screen in the tee allow rocks to still pass?

Hi Genalissa. Thanks for the comment. Yeah the screen is stainless steel. I got it Home Depot near the fences. It comes in a roll and I just cut out a piece.

Just curious whats the purpose of that pvc cap on the pipe below the check valve? Mine looks similar and when the pump got re-plumb they didn’t add that back and I wonder if that has something to do with my pump not priming

Thanks for reaching out. I put a metal screen in the tee so it will stop any rocks from getting sucked up into the check valve.

Buy a flowmatic check valve they are worth every penny its the only band that worth it I have been installing pumps for over 18 years the problem with the screen is it will get plugged it self if there that much rock the well need to be fixed it self the well casing is bad it can be fixed.👍👌✌️💯🌊💦

I do have a valve going to the sprinkler heads, like in your "Part 1 " video and if i pour water into the pump from the top it works fine.

Put one in. You have a foot valve, and that does the same thing, but has failed.
