It is a perfect car for an 18 year old however insurance is to high and id be rinsing a 3rd of my monthly income on the finance and insurance 😂 so unfortunately it’s far from the perfect young drivers 😢

Your basically talking like a sales man in a ford dealership, yes of course the young driver should tie him or herself into a load of debt on finance then pay a stupid amount to insure it probably with a black box fitted so extra power useless, then comes the depreciation factor, what a ridiculous video better of buying an older version for first car .

Also with this model, the mountune stage 1 wasn't approved by Ford for warranty earlier this year. I know someone who's developed an oil leak and after a month, Ford decided to change the engine. Also seen more and more oil leaks on the owners forum popping up, think there will be a recall soon. Ford know they've messed something up, they've been repairing mapped cars on warranty as well.

I'd say a zetec s or st line for a young driver than move up to the ST a few years after

I'm 21, have one off these @ £270 a month. Insurance is currently £800 a year with 3 years no claims. I'm also saving around £700 a month for a house deposit, so I'm not spending all my income on it. It is possible to get one of these and be sensible.

£2400 not too bad for insurance? Really? 😂😂

I love my Fiesta ST3, my insurance is only £44 per month. There's nothing wrong with finance, unless you are happy to buy a car over 5 years old then finance is the best method. It wouldn't make any sense to buy a new car outright, as they are a depreciating asset, financially it makes the best logic.

Id say it comes down to affordability at the end of the day. You could go down the financed / leasing route but you'll have to think if it's appropriate especially at a young age with not much driving experience. Insurance may be high depending on driving experience and location. Running costs I'm sure must be reasonable for this engine.

@@A22Alex agree. I've heard of a few young people crashing their financed cars. I also see a few of the stupid young drivers driving stupidly in their financed cars. Had someone in a merc cla driving past me whilst I was crossing a zebra crossing with inches between me and him. It's youngsters like this who put our insurance up.

I have a full time job and can easily run with a few years no claims, a house and everything. Absolutely love my ST and won't be swapping it for a long time!

I have to say Jamie I like most of your videos but you say £2400 at 18 isn’t bad for insurance comon mate that’s ridiculous. And no 18 year old should buy this car.

Cj Mackay I think you are wrong here, Im 18 in January and I’ve factory ordered a 25k st3 with like all packages. The insurance is around £3000 and I’m perfectly happy because it’s such a fun car. I’m in a pretty good job so I can afford it but at the end of the day I do think this is a great car for 18-19 year olds :/

George Dove I didn’t mean 18 year olds couldn’t afford it I just mean at 18 year olds they still have a lot to learn about driving and making mistakes in a 25k high performance car isn’t really a good idea. But if your happy that’s all that matters.

There's plenty of young, dumb kids out there that are more than happy to pay £50 a month for a tidy little hatch, hopefully not drive it into a wall and then build their credit into getting a bigger engine. As ironic and sarcastic that might sound, just let them do the fuck what they wanna do and leave us old boys to buy up the original hot hatches. Pls. ;)

jdm 98 i got quoted for a jag x type when i was 17 2.0d for £15,000 The first vehicle i was insured on was a van and that cost £5500 for the year After that i had a mk1 focus 1.6 and that was £3500

jdm 98 in my area there was a lot of crash for cash shit people basically forcing people to cash in to them and claim insurance so when you insure a vehicle you insure your self for whatever you hit

I wouldn't say 200hp is a crazy amount. At 18 I was running 550bhp and also riding bikes! All depends on how mature you are.

£6500 per year insurance for me an 18 year old with 1 year no claims and I am a mechanic at sandicliffe ford and the finance is still way out of budget but I have drove one and they are good fun

The alternative still remains the st-line & st-line x are good alternatives still relatively high on insurance but does boast a pokey 1.0L 3 cylinder eco boost turbo charged engine pushing 100 to 140 bhp stock

Any small turbo engine for that matter, I had a vauxhall 1.4 turbo on a 15 plate and sure enough after about 50k miles the problems started so got rid

Remap makes no sense whilst your car is still in warranty, you’re asking for trouble! Not only that but this car would be expensive to insure for an 18 yr old, if you then try and insure it with a remap forget it ! car in stock has enough grunt for most people ! Having said that, I would consider a stage 1 when warranty is up but then, I’m 48 and insurance is 280 quid a year on my mk8 ST👍

No issues reported with stage 1 map, literally 1000’s of cars have undergone this. You can hardly find a 2nd hand one that hasn’t been mapped

@@FreeRangePelican went in for it's first service and they noticed a oil leak coming from the cylinder head, which was traced back to a fuel shut of valve which is somewhere between the cylinder head and block. They was worried damage was done to the cylinder head as it was starved of oil. They also found the water pump was leaking and the crank was seizing. They believe all of this was a knock on from the oil leak and it was just easier to change the engine. I believe my engine was from the pre production batches which had known issues I think the new ones don't suffer the fuel shut of valve issues.

@@FreeRangePelican most was in Germany and Portugal as they got there's before the UK and usually was to late before the engine went pop. I know of one other in the UK think mine was the first.

I’ve got 3 mates who have one also, all 17. They pay £200 a month for there’s, obviously in there parents names but they all work so they pay for it. Insurance monthly also. I brought mine outright however.

No chance a 18yr old could get insurance from any even medium sized city on one, 22 4yr NCB and still 1400 a year on a ST180 (2700 last year) and good luck keeping it cheap declaring a map absolutely deluded

Finance deals on them are terrible though, unlike the MK7.

Can i just say I got a 1.6 seat Leon pretty sure previous owner remaped it anyway very fast and loud but is pointless on black box it way to tempting to push it but I can’t in any sort of way majority of 18\19 year old on black box so looking at one of these fiesta st until your like 22 is basically pointless but great car tho
