Why You Want A 1:2 Ratio To MAXIMIZE Your Damage | Genshin Impact Explanation
You've all probably been building your characters towards a 1:2 ratio but have you ever stopped to question why exactly that was the ideal ratio for damage? This video is a nerdy dive into explaining the "why" for this ubiquitous game knowledge.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the support and feedback, it's definitely appreciated! Just note that the 1:2 ratio is just a generalization and isn't necessarily the be all and end all of stat distributions. Like some smart commentators have pointed out, we don't account for stats like ATK, and EM, and even character passives like Yanfei and Childe (whose affects trigger from crit rate). It just's a general guideline for how you want to allocate your stats in a vaccum! It is should also be noted that the 1:2 ratio is the ideal ratio AFTER everything is included (crit passives and initial crit stats). The end result ratio is what you want to be 1:2, hopefully that clears up some confusion!

friendly reminder that 1:2 might not be better for characters who are affected by crit rate or who can improve crit rate through cryo. for example, ganyu and ayaka usually like cd more than cr, and yanfei essentially gets an extra hit on her ca when it crits, so focusing on more cr for yanfei to have closer to 1:1.5 can be better than 1:2

Of course that's something you can take account of. Weapons like festering desire or even the catch straight up give you crit rate (only for your skills tho). You can calculate the needed dmg and rate by "assuming" the extra stats you get from outside.

For those who didn't take algebra. I'll share some wisdom 😏 I learn from an asian player(i think) in hoyolab. Crit dmg is how hard your mother's sandel hits you. Crit rate is how many times your mother's sandal hits you. So if the ratio is not close to 1:2 than your mother sandal will not hit consistently and high damage will appear only sometimes. Please don't mind if I'm wrong. I didn't take algebra.

For the people who dont like math: Dont think about flat CR and CD, think of it as substat rolls. When multiplying 2 numbers (# of rolls) the closer they are, the more efficient it is (higher product, less rolls) so to maximize damage, the ratio of rolls should be 1:1 but due to CD rolls being 2x CR rolls, the ratio becomes 1:2
i think once a character reaches 100CR and 200CD, 1:2 ratio no longer applies when you increase the CD even more since all your hits will crit. 100:230 for example

2 жыл бұрын
Genuine question, can you explain it in much lesser and simple way? Cuz i don't really watch the video
@NoryLevi
2 жыл бұрын
@@rifarira9160 Crit rate and Crit damage relationship in the average damage calculation is multiplication, which is crit rate X crit damage. Because of that, you would want to adjust that crit rate x crit damage to have the highest value. Now for example if 2 numbers with the total sum of 10, which combination of them multiply would give you the highest output? The answer is 5x5 = 25. Basically 2 half of the sum multiply will give you the best output. Now back to genshin, since you know 2 half of a sum multiplication will give you the best output, you would want crit rate and crit damage to be exactly equal, but 1 crit rate is worth 2 crit damage, hence 1 crit rate x 2 crit damge will give you the best output. And thats why 1:2 is the optimal ratio for average damage
Underrated. Great video, keep it up!!
I get where they get it (actually I calculated it myself) but what they don't say is that this ratio is completely unnecessary to follow, if you are far from the top rolls on your artifacts. Instead, it is better to choose the artifact that gets more high crit rolls than the other. This depends on character and their weapon too. For example, my Diona uses Favonious bow for ER, and her primary (or should I say only) stat is crit rate, while crit damage is completely neglected. This is because of the weapon passive, read it and you will get it.
He explained this so well, being detailed and simple at the same time, what a chad.

Great basic guide for most characters, though there are some few exceptions. The biggest one is Eula, and with the Gravestone and SoBP not providing crit stats, trying to obtain a high crit ratio puts you in substat RNG's mercy. Eula has a single instance of backloaded burst damage, which can cause your average damage to significantly drop when you don't get a crit. You can compromise with a lower crit ratio, but it's incredibly frustrating to have consistent burst damage when her crit rate isn't high. In this case, you can break the 1:2 rule and opt for more Crit Rate and less Crit Damage, making Eula a lot comfier to play.

5:22 You see that formula where everything is dependent on base dmg. Yes that base dmg is equal to your total attack, so increasing your atk gives some crit dmg too and it's better to optimize all 3 at same time rather than them. So an optimized low build would be some 50 EM with crit cdmg and atk% completely balanced. Not counting for Hu Tao and HP/Def dependent characters.
this really makes you realize how difficult making a open world/rpg game is since you have to factor in the little things aswell. games that are balanced like this are really impressive to see cause you don't see them often. when is more higher your critical damage (with enough critical rate, 1:2), more you will lose damage when you don't crit. By this, 100:200 crit is much better than 90:220. Why? Because, if you hit crit ten times with 90:220, you will do more damage than 100:200 BUT, if you don't crit at least 1 of the ten hits, you will lose a crucial amount of damage compared to the ten crit hits by 100:200. This is why is always important the 1:2 (until you reach 100 Critical rate, of course).

@nayu9171

@@Ozen2507 Actually im more inclined to agree with you on this but by the time youve farmed near perfect artifacts, that is ones with 90cr, i believe its completely safe to say that 90cr will DEFINITELY come with atleast 260+ cdm and at that point critting 100% with crit dmg scaling charswill lose you efficiency because sacrificing crit dmg for crit rate will obv lead to less dmg. The fact that you can one shot everything (for reference/as an example my hu tao does 98k vape charged atks with r5 deathmatch) MORE than makes up for being 100% consistent in dmg as with 100% cr the sacrifice you make on cdm will more than likely lead to not killing everything in one shot

Yeah, you guys must also pay attention to other stats like ATK and EM. 1:2 ratio is not a must but just a guide. With the same amount of crits you have, the 1:2 ratio is the best but it rarely is the case since you have many other things to consider
Note there are a lot of characters that don't depend so heavily on this rule: -Ayaka and Ganyu with Blizzard Strayer aren't as concerned with Crit Rate -A burst Xinyan at C2 can completely ignore Crit Rate and focus on Crit DMG -Eula may want more Crit Ratio to ensure her burst crits There are many more, it would be nice to see another video talking about some of these cases in the game!
Hmm i prefer to go 70% minimun crit rate but more like betwen 75% and 80% and then focus on crit dmg, remeber guys crit damage is a dead stat if you dont crit, the only exception comes to cryo comps where you can go a bit lower and supports that benefit more from EM like Venti/Kazuha/Sucrose or Sayu.

I feel like I am retaking my math lecture two days ago but simplified
i have a question, let say i have two circlets artifacts that both give the same amount of crit rrate, but one gives crt dmg stats while the other one doesn't have it. Is it better to equipped the one without crit dmg stats? since equipping that will make the ratio 1:2 , while equipping the one with crt dmg stat will raise ratio near to 1:3?
So I just started this game. Am I correct to assume that crit in general is better late game since you need high crit rate and damage for it to really start scaling? And early game I can better focus on attack for damage.
alright, now is the time where I need to find those crit rate substats because all I get mostly is DEF and HP even my hutao (just lucky to get homa) now have crit rate 59% and crit damage of 212%. It's already use crit rate circlet which is the best option to use because guarantee 31.1% crit rate T-T

This is facts. Especially abyss. You can’t clear it waiting for 1:2. Because anything less than 170% crit damage is a struggle. Doing 70% 140 is a no for me.
which one is better, nd added 15% attack or a 10% crit damage?
Poggers great vid
It also depends on the specific character’s skills! Ganyu comes with a lot of crit rate naturally, even more if you run a freeze team, so I can get away with a 60:230 ratio. Meanwhile childe’s riptides are applied through when he crits, so he likes more crit rate in general, so I have him at 70:140.
I wander, why did u stop making a next video? It was so helpful (in my opinion). Anyway I will try to guess it, maybe collage... perhaps?
Now the next question is to how to mathematically optimize damage using calculus, but with a third variable, the atk stat, or in my Albedo's case, def. I've been trying to find that sweet spot where I can maximize the damage of his E, with most optimal def, while crit and crit damage is at 1:2.

Shouldn’t base crit then be 25/50 instead of 5/50?
I can't believe that im learning math in genhsin
My Ayato's crit rate is 50.3% and crit damage is 100%
this works against signle high hp enemies because you deal more dmg over time but in a scenario of multiple lower hp enemies that you could potentially one tap with like a 1:3 ratio il could result in faster times because with 1:2 ratio you would have to always deal two hits instead in a 1:3 ratio sometimes you would need just one hit, since this is impossible to predict efficiently tho 1:2 is still more solid i guess
For those who want a TL;DR Have a crit rate of 50%~40% and a Crit Damage of 150%~200% that way, one of two hit will crit and is no bad of a odd

@SirZelean
2 жыл бұрын
I mean, 50:100 is surely worse than 50:150, but that's because you are just adding more numbers and forgetting the proportions. For the sake of simplicity, let's pretend you have 30 slots for substats and each CR substat gives 5% and each CD substat gives 10%. Following that example, having 50:100 means you got 20 slots filled by crit rolls, 10 for CR (10*5=50) and 10 for CD (10*10=100). So sure, if you have 50:160 (I'm rounding up to fit the example) that's better, but just because that means you have 26 slots filled by crit stats now, instead of just 20. BUT! Of those 26 slots, 10 are filled by CR and 16 by CD, so the multiplication results in a 160. Instead, if you had an equal rate, 13 for one and 13 for the other, the result would be 169. That means that, ideally, better than having 50:160 would be having 65:130. In practice and in a vacuum, you don't want to deviate from the 1:2 ratio until you have 100% CR. I understand why people think that stopping CR at 50% or 75% is ok because by that point you already have a very consistent rate of critting, then it doesn't *feel* bad when you don't crit because it seems like you are critting all the time already. And it *feels* better if you start seeing bigger numbers instead. But mathematically speaking, 1:2 will always be slightly more effective than any other options until you hit the 100% cap for CR. That is, of course, in a vacuum. You will want more CR than 1:2 if you're using Favonius weapons. You will want more CD than 1:2 if you're using Cryo resonance and the Blizzard set. But those are exceptions to the rule, of course.
It's just better to multiply your CR by CD for any proposed set of gear being compared, and take the higher product. -You can't always get equal numbers of CR and CD rolls. Substats aren't fungible. You take what you can get and have to use it. Rarely will this lead to an optimal 1:2 ratio. Because it's not even about equal number of rolls, since the substat rolls themselves have 4 possible numbers, so your substat ratio could vary from 3.9 CR to 5.4 CD (about a 5:7 ratio) to 2.7CR to 7.8 CD (about 6:17 ratio, nearly 1:3). And while the average of a large number of CR and CD substat rolls should be 1:2, you'll never have a statistically large number on a set of gear. (5 artifacts can have at most 35 CR and CD substat rolls, 34 if the hat is CR/CD mainstat - you don't get into statistical large number territory until you're dealing with 10s of 1000s of rolls, minimum). -Not all sources of CR and CD come in 1:2 ratios. Black vs. Blackcliff swords are a great example of this. (Or mistsplitter vs. PJC). -A number of characters have access to CR or CD without using a weapon slot or substat roll. That Ayaka gets twice as much CD as Yoimiya (iirc) gets CR for ascending isn't terribly relevant if you're building Ayaka, because you can't choose to use Yoimiya's CR instead. You just have that CD, and it's effectively *free* in terms of artifact substat space or weapon space. So it's better to just do the math and multiply total CR and CD for any gear sets under comparison, and see which product is bigger. (If it's close, now you might care to factor in differences in ATK and whatnot in your calculation, or just not care and decide they're close enough for practical purposes).
Here I am with my lvl90 Diluc and lvl 20 gladiator set, proudly dealing between 5k and 13k... I feel ashamed now that I could be able to deal much more damage xD your video is extremely helpful and I will immediately go and work on my claymore wielding boi to max him out. I have 55/220. But I crit almost all the time. Especially with her burst. I usually crit. I usually do shoot for 50ctit rate minimum. There are characters you just can’t get 1:2 Baal. Due to putting so much in ER that one to two like 80crit and 160crit dmg. Is super hard.while getting that 300 ER.
you explained this very well and made it easy to understand. thanks!
