Everyone knows about the UEFA EUROS and Copa America, but did you know about the OFC's Nations Cup? The premium international football competition in the Oceanic region.
FIFA's lowest ranked confederation is getting ready for the OFC Men's Nation Cup 2024 which will be kicking off in Vanuatu on June 15th and Fiji on June 16th.
Bringing together the national teams of New Zealand, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji, Tahiti and more for the ultimate showdown in football in the pacific.
OFC Football is often overlooked. In this video we will learn more about the footballing landscape in the area, and one of the greatest football underdog stories of all time.
We'll look into the history of the football competition in the area, and what sort of football challenges are faced by the Pacific Island National Teams in this area.
Tahiti's OFC Nations Cup Win in 2012 is one of the most amazing achievements in sporting history, and they were able to follow it up by enjoying the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2013. Where Tahiti vs Spain, Tahiti vs Nigeria and Tahiti vs Uruguay at the Confederations Cup were real matches that have happened.

OFC nations cup is like watching Sunday league: you know its bad but watch it because its chill, fun and a bit unpredictable. Also, I think that those little islands can get better if they get better coaches because today with the power of the internet, everyone can see and learn tactics and skills. If they can be good at rugby, they can be good at football too
One detail that you got wrong is that winning the Nations Cup does NOT qualify you to the WC. Like the Euro or Copa America, the Nations Cup is fully separate from the World Cup process. The WC spots (since OFC has 1,5 spots nowadays) are decided through the World Cup Qualifiers, not Nations Cup
As a night shift worker in UK, I love that I can keep an eye on this tournament. Shame New Caledonia pulled out, but I'll be watching Solomon Islands v Vanuatu in 1 hour

@@pmode I agree, but the OFC spot will most likely be New Zealand, and I imagine the intercontinental playoffs (judging off recent performances) being either: New Caledonia, Vanuatu or Fiji.
The absolute honour of winning the competition just to qualify to get annihilated by Brazil. This sounds like such a fun competition.

It's happened, Tahiti went to the confederations cup in 2013, they drew Spain in their group, lost 10-0

I think they can play together as a group pf nations for FIFA like West Indies do for cricket since each Caribbean island was not enough. And to keep their footballing culture, they can continue with OFC and it would be like a league or a tournament amongst them and each of the islands can support their side in it with passion. In cricket too, Caribbean islands play against each otherat least in a franchise league format nowadays. But when it comes to international world cup together, they take the best 11 and form a team for the entire West Indies.

@@Ese96Agoaye I agree, size has little to do with talent, for example Iceland managed to qualify for the 2018 Russia World Cup, despite only having a population of less than 400,000...

I doubt it. It would be like trying to put together a Schengen Area team. The peoples of the pacific have different cultures and languages.

I really think FIFA should redraw the AFC and OFC so Oceania can get the east Asian teams and more competition. I know they're guaranteed a WC spot now with the 48-team expansion, but what is the ceiling for OFC teams otherwise?

Under the old system there were 5 African spots, 5 Asian spots, and half an Oceanid spot. I've always thought they should redraw the regions into East Asia-Pacific, West Asia plus the Arabic North African countries, then sub Sahara Africa. Give three spots to each and on a merit basis allocate one extra spot to the best performing confederation each cycle, and the other half spot to the second best performing.
Honesty I like the OFC more than the euro and I say that as a Croatian
I watched fiji batter samoa today in maths. Probably watch all of the 8 o clock games and might even wake up early for the final or semi finals
