Update as February 15th, 2022: It seems Paramount+ randomly took down all of the seasons (Australia, New Zealand, South Africa). I don't know why and I'm not sure if/when they'll come back. I'll update this message if things change. Really disappointing. Regardless of Paramount+, I still recommend checking out Australian Survivor.

I was appalled by the decision by Paramount Plus to take out Australian Survivor. I have become a big fan of their version and refuse to watch the American version because of the "woke" mentality. The only way we can watch it now is on the 10Play app using a VPN. Which is way to risky to do. I have canceled my Paramount Plus. I did wait for 1883 to finish their season, though.

That's a tough comparison. I honestly would probably give the edge to David for being a little more evolved. That was pretty damn gangster. 😂 Rob will always be a legend but he kinda falls victim to the older era of Survivor sadly.

I love your version so much! I watched all the more recent seasons between 40 & 41 of US. I found myself almost let down by the brevity & by comparison, rushed editing of American Survivor. It was a shock to the system after at first. And I’ve gotta say, I love JLP. He isn’t quite as sassy as Jeff. But he gives us so much of what we love about Probst without it feeling like an imitation. You’ve got a great show. I hope it continues for many more seasons!

I’m loving Australian survivor. Two things I’ve noticed: Australians seem to be able to take losing in challenges better than Americans. I always see the winning team saying nice things to the losing team, and the losing team smiling back at them. I don’t see that in US survivor. I’d HATE it if the winning team that’s about to go eat burgers tried to shake my hand or say “bad luck guys!” 😅 I’m just a sore loser, so I love to see how much more MATURE the Australian players seem to be. Maybe it’s editing 🤷🏻‍♀️ Other thing I notice is how much STRONGER the contestants seem to be. I just watched that hug-the-pole challenge in the 2016 one. I think the winner lasted SIX HOURS ? Correct me if I’m wrong, but the longest an American lasted was..2 hours? Not even? Almost all the female Australian players have washboard abs. And I mean…55 days vs. our now 26 days. Y’all are just tougher! Respect.

Absolutely!! The contestants are athletes that show good sportsmanship, win or lose. They compete for their team’s win, not the individual show they are setting up to be an internet character after the season wraps up. The Australian, and all other non-US survivor shows are about the sport & competition. I’m so glad we (US) have access to a few of these seasons.

Everyone talks about S2 of Aus Survivor being the best but honestly I think Champions vs Contenders 2 doesn’t get anywhere near enough credit. The storytelling is fantastic and the cast, especially the ones they focus on the most overall, are very compelling. Big characters, great strategic gameplay, unpredictable votes/blindsides, frequent power shifts, it’s brilliant. Maybe I need to watch S2 again to compare but Dirty Harry, Golden God David, King of the Jungle Luke, Janine The Godmother, Pia the Smiling Assassin, the dominant girls alliance, Pia’s FTC, the Abbey blindside, the emotionally charged tribal when Luke goes, his insane immunity run, and even stuff from pre merge with the downfall of the sporty alliance, David and Shaun’s rivalry, Harry’s idol plays, Daisy’s betrayal of David, I could go on for hours. It’s a terrific season!

  • @verinonrenthar9176

I love that you made this video, but IMO, it doesn't go far enough into how AU is better than US Survivor. For example, ever wondered how the players strategize about how they're gonna do a challenge, just before it starts? AU has that. And yeah, some people get over shadowed in the edit, but the people that are overshadowed *get more screen time in general* than their US counterparts, simply because there's more episodes and more footage of them talking strategy. And yeah there are some advantages and the occasional Redemption Island, but they're used sparingly, unlike US. Another oddity I noticed while binging AU Survivor is that almost everyone is super nice to each other. Australians just seem like nice people.

I agree with the last part heavily, one of my biggest gripes with US survivor is some players not being able to respect the game as a game. US survivor players get so bitter in a hypocritical way, while in AUS the majority of players commend good gameplay / deceit in the end if it was the right move.

  • @kellymitchell7164

YES about that last part! I notice the winning team always shaking hands/patting backs of the losing team, and the losing team smiling back at them. My main criticism of our Survivor in Australia is the frankenbiting. So many edits of sentences that just have been clipped from multiple other sentences... Sounds really off, almost to the point of it seeming like the editors just making up whole things sometimes. Like someone will be talking, then halfway through it goes loud, then the next word is quiet again, then loud again...

Maybe not with the level of sound but US Survivor does the same. I was just watching and interview with Ricard where he pointed out that the audio playing during a conversation with him and Shan was actually Shan talking to someone else at a different time. But the camera was showing the back of Shans head and Ricard just reacting to it. And it made it look like Ricard was being told by Shan what the plan was for a vote when in reality it was Ricard who came up with the idea in the first place. So always have to remember there are heavy edits to tell the narrative the producers and editors want to tell.

OMG! I am SO Happy to hear they've dropped the rest of the seasons plus New Zealand!? I haven't watched US Survivor in years, decided to watch this season and was just not excited about it. Started watched Australian Survivor and LOVED it instantly. The people are great, the competitions are amazing, and I love there are more episodes so you get to know everyone. Now I need to go home and sit myself in front of the TV and watch ALL the Australian episodes!!!

1:49 in and I'm sold!!! TYSM for sharing that Paramount Plus added these shows! Even though I have it, I didn't know and I'm a HUGE Survivor fan (best reality show EVER!), so big thanks! Now if we can just get Paramount Plus to add seasons of Big Brother from Australia, Canada, & UK, I'd be the happiest girl in the world! ;) Finished your video, very well done! I hope Paramount plus plans to add each new season of Aussie Survivor too b/c I want to see Sandra and her daughter play. New subscriber here! :)

Funny story. Ages ago one of your videos popped up on my recommended and reminded me that I enjoyed watching Survivor when I was a kid. American Survivor is hard to get at over here, but Australian Survivor is on Amazon Prime. So one of your videos maybe half a year ago got me watching Australian Survivor, and now it's come full circle. With Australian Survivor in particular I feel like one of the biggest changes is the cultural one. It's definitely great.

The gameplay by the Brain tribe alone is worth the watch. I cannot recommend this enough to anyone who likes Survivor, I just made my mom watch it and she thought it was one of the best ever. Yo, coming back to this video after Australian Survivor Titans vs Rebels ended, literally my favourite season and second favourite winner of all time, please make another video cos we had: 1. Two big players out for each other in the pre-merge, who then form a bond and work with each other throughout the merge, finally coming to a heartbreaking end. 2. Pretty much everyone playing in the merge was active and had a chance to win. 3. Great use of idols, fake idols and the new "Ultimate Vote" advantage. Blindsides were great to watch. 4. Very diverse cast, with a mixture of funny, calculating and mischievous personalities. 5. Even in the Final Tribal Council I was impressed by the runner-up's speech despite knowing they had no chance. 6. The production quality and the cinematography is crazy good (editing might be skewed but personally I didn't mind).

im from the Philippines. i started watching US Survivor Gabon, then i watched the past seasons and got hooked from season 1-41. because of pandemic and home quarantine, i wanted to watch replays of Survivor but got an idea to watch the franchises, i started with Australian Survivor, and i was happy that most shots are almost like the US version. and since then, i got hooked and begin to be a fan of Australian Survivor, i almost love most players. In US version, you became a fan of the show and some players that you can count in your one hand because you will love how they play but on Australian Survivor, you will love most players in each seasons because of their characters and how they play, most of them are likeable.

The current (2022) seasons had the Most brutal challenge. It was episode 2’s reward challenge. Literally four people in the water, winner climbed up surrounding nets. The other 2 opposing team members grab onto you on the net and pull you down, in to the water. It was brutal, like I was honestly scared someone was going to get choked

I purposely waited to watch this video because I just started watching Australian Survivor this week and I wanted to avoid any spoilers. I absolutely love this show. It reminds me of what was great about Survivor years ago. Granted I've only watched season 4 so far, but there were so many great characters, the challenges are amazing, and the storytelling is well done. I thought 24 players would be too hard to follow but they actually did a pretty decent job, even though there were a few purple edits. I also thought Jonathan gave Jeff a run for his money because he didn't insert himself into the game, again one more thing I loved about old Survivor. I highly highly highly recommend Australian Survivor. It's definitely worth paying for a Paramount Plus subscription. The only areas where US Survivor beats it is that they don't have a live reunion and the votes are read right there in Fiji, and I haven't figured out a way to watch Australian Ponderosa, which is referred to as the Villa.

  • @kranjos

Australian Survivor has definitely had its fair share of big gameplayers (some who win, some who don't), as well as wildcards, and challenge beasts (both male and female). As an Aussie, it's been cool seeing people from my part of the world squaring off in the best game show on TV. Having seen every season of US Survivor since I was 8 years old (2008), and even going back to watch the first 4 seasons ever, Australian Survivor holds its own. However Jeff Probst is still number 1 in my heart.

Haha as an Australian watcher of all Survivors. that little “I wish…” section at the beginning perfectly sums up Australian survivor, so i had to have. a little chuckle. In Australia they broadcast 3 episodes a week so it takes a big commitment to watch it as it is broadcast. It rates fairly well here and has won best reality programme a few times. Love that you showed that footage of ET (Andrew Ettingshausen) He was a brilliant Rugby League player from the 80’s and 90’s, playing for my team, the Cronulla Sharks. Oh yes please bring Ozzie out play!
