@@hoihoi9866 when sharpening a knife you do not want all that metal removed and these sharpeners will re-profile the knife edge and put all together will ultimately weaken the knife and lower its working life.

@@markswann good tip
I've always rinsed and dried my blades after a sharpening bc I thought about shavings. Thanks for actually showing it
It's exactly what I imagined would happen if I didn't wash it, Thanks for the video proof :) ,the sounds add so much btw you did a great job
You should do a video stropping a knife, it’s the process of removing the material that flakes off after sharpening. You use leather to clean up the edge so you don’t have the rough metal along the cutting edge.
I love these sound effect videos, you need a raise
The sound is so satisfying
This is exactly as unsettling as it should be. My spine is still tingling
The quality is divine.
Your quality is insanely amazing.
That is some fantastic Foley work!
Now Im more concerned what was in the cheese than the metal shavings!
Here from daily dose
That was amazing!
seeing that knife get mutilated by the pull through sharpener physically hurt
What you do is strop the knife after sharpening , it gets rid of the small metal fragments of sharpening & then you can wash off the knife & on high carbon knifes , a thin coat of food grade mineral oil won’t hurt if you apply it to the knife .
Thank you for the awareness
This is one of the best awareness video👍🏾
I've always rinsed knives for exactly this reason after sharpening them and I'm glad it wasn't for nothing lmao
Holy shit, this is amazing! How big is the crew behind these videos? Where do the sound effects come from? I almost imagine whoever is doing the foley work could have a behind-the-scenes channel of their own!
Never have I ever seen more interesting video than this...
Best proof is demonstration. Good job.
Friendship ended with microplastics. Micrometals is my new best friend.
I usually brush my teeth and never wash. This video is useful to people like me.
Love these videos :)
I always think this after I see a chef sharpen the knife and go right into cutting. Thanks mythbuster 👍
Wow wondering what gear you use to record these videos. Mind sharing?

My husband is a professional sharpener and he always says that those machines aren't good enough for sharpening. Actually, they're worthy to remove the dead steel from the knive after the sharpening, nothing else :)

That’s a very aggressive sharpener. I bet it drastically lowers the lifespan of the knife

I think all the cheap sharpeners are like that. But using a proper sharpening block just bends the metal back in place
@SideStreetLeather

Well, I'm sure part of it is the excessive downward pressure they were applying to the knife. No knife I've used is soft enough for one of this sharpeners to peel metal off like that under normal use.

Honestly the worst thing here is the use of a pull-through sharpener. If you sharpen a knife like you're supposed to, with a sharpening stone, this doesn't happen.

Only you use it after sharpening without washing.
The camera man gives us so many good moments
The studio is a legend. They can show big lessons without speaking.
As someone who's never sharpened a knife before but didn't realize this, thank you. Also as someone who's worked in a metal shop where you should always grind off burrs after cutting metal, I should have known this lol.
So after doing any work with a knife (honing, sharpening, etc) always wash and clean the knife afterwards no matter the material. Even ceramic can remove small pieces of metal. Sounds like solid advice.
The sounds 🤤😩
I sharpen my knives constantly as a cook but I always make sure it's always clean before I use it
The hair in the cheese needs a raise
I don't just wash my knife. I polish with two more stones then deburr on a strop. That's what actually gets rid of the burr, makes the edge cleaner for cutting even delicate fish, and makes it shinier to delay corrosion (I use aogami steel).
I love metal shavings in my food, increases its flavor
Holy shit. This hits hard.

Its the amount of the little hair in that cheese im worrried about.
the other day i saw a known french chef using a knife after charpening it without washing after, god knows it tickled my heart
Tanks 👍🏼
well that's informative
The little hair got me dying 😭
Its making me feel anxious 😂
Just a wipe with a paper towel or kitchen towel will clean the knife plenty good. And most knife sharpeners are not that aggressive. Certainly a honing rod will not do that to a knife.
Yummy. Metallic flavor
The metal shards add some much needed crunch to the soft cheese

I like it chrispy
This is why I clean my knives after I sharpen them… my mom questions me every time and scolds me. I should show her this video
It's always giving me heebie-jeebies when I'm watching a cook video and someone sharpens their knife, and then goes directly cutting meat.
i always had the feeling i had to wash it when i sharp it. And there it is why
Most of the time people only sharpen their knives one side at a time in that typical motion you see on tv or movies so most likely a lot of people wouldn’t have this problem as the normal motion wipes it away, still should always wash any utensil after any use
adds a metallic taste
The hair in the cheese🫣🤣
