I have spent the past 20 years living in Australia, and I can honestly say there hasn't been a day gone by where I haven't thought of my beloved Norwich. I am so terribly home-sick and can't wait to see my beautiful City again. I'm planning on coming back permanently in the not too distant future, and am so glad to see that it still looks pretty much as I remember it.......apart from some of my favourite shops no longer being there (I could happily spend an hour or more browsing around Hovells). Your video brought it all back to me so clearly and it brings me great comfort knowing that it is still very familiar and beautiful as ever. I am so excited about returning to Norwich, I can't wait to stroll down Elm Hill and visit the Castle museum again and just enjoy being home again. Thankyou😁

When you walked into the church in tombland (the wonky building). The reason the path is lower was due to the plauge, too many bodies and not enough space, so the soil level was raised to accommodate them. The roman Catholic cathedral and plantation gardens are also very much hidden gems in plain sight. The prison also used to be the cavalry barracks, hence the iconic shape. Final fun fact is that the nazis party loved Norwich City Hall and based some of thier own buildings on its style. Just things I learnt doing works for the council and meeting the people who look after the bits and bobs. Lovely video 👌❤️

@Target Trees. Thanks for the extra info… yes, the poor Catholic Cathedral often gets overlooked, and it’s a marvellous sight. I also like to spend time at Strangers Hall for a history fix 🙂. I doubt the Nazis would be impressed with City Hall at present, with some of the hands missing from the tower clock 😕

I think it was Norwich I went to see when I was staying with a friend in Cromer, 21 years ago! I lost contact with the friend & almost forgot the place but I remember the Cathedral & the old stone buildings, at the time I thought they were churches & chapels on every corner! I remember Cromer Pier well with the big hotel facing it & I remember the winding streets in Cromer. They are the only 2 places I've been to in East Anglia. Thanks Tim, I've finally found out which part of the country is East Anglia, I thought it was near Newcastle & Hull! Very interesting blog on Norwich, the old quaint character of the buildings reminds me of Chester.

I have currently been living and working I Australia for 2 and a half years and its been really difficult as im only here on a temporary visa so if I leave the country I cannot return. 15:30 - you asked about the little blue door into Ethelbert Gate, it leads up above the actual gateway and is used as a school classroom for the Norwich School (formerly known as King Edward School) which is mainly based in the Cathedral Close to the left of the actual Cathedral as you walk through Erpingham Gate from Tombland (you went through Erpingham Gate on your way to the Cathedral). Quick bit of local knowledge for you, that Gate is named after Sir Thomas Erpingham who was in charge of King Henry V's archers at the Battle of Agincourt, Sir Thomas is also buried within the Cathedral as well as having a Gate named after him). Awesome video and I'm really glad to see someone really enjoys walking around this fine city I live in 🙂

After lockdown, if you visit Norwich again, the Tourist information point is in the Forum building and has some interesting guided walks and history leaflets. Definitely worth checking out. Also the Norwich Ghost Tour is good too. I read that the City Hall was spared from the bombing in WW2 because Hitler had his eye on it for his future speeches on the balcony. It was pictured in his Baedeker guide book to UK. Also the plinth opposite overlooking the market is part of the Norwich War memorial. it looks scruffy sadly from that side but if you walk round it has a nice sculpture and some inscriptions in the other side. In recent years they have moved the wooden WW1 memorial from the Castle to inside City Hall. It’s just on left through those big doors. When City Hall is open as normal it’s worth a look as it’s beautiful. Like a giant wooden book of names. If you visit from the train station the better walk into the city is through the Complete Angler garden and along the river to the Cathedral. Much nicer than seedy Prince of Wales Road. The cosy club looks lovely inside, some beautiful stained glass and art nouveau features. Also there is now a restaurant and bar at the top of one of the buildings near Rose Lane car park (Rooftop gardens.?) that is supposed to have some nice views over the city? The Royal Arcade is beautiful too but seems to have a lot of empty shops now which is a shame. Thanks for doing this video 👍🏻
