In this video I give my honest thoughts on Jujutsu Kaisen after finally catching up with the manga - I’m gonna explain the elements I like and dislike without giving away any JJK spoilers.
The first thing I loved were the characters themselves, considering anyone who’s relevant has a unique personality coupled with clear motivations that make sense. Mechamaru in particular was a great side character and the way things unfolded in regards to him was probably one of my favourite parts of the series so far. Satoru Gojo’s cockiness and general demeanour is another highlight, but the manga changed how I perceived him. From the anime you get the gist that he’s the strongest sorcerer around, but the manga makes clear just how much he holds everything together. Gojo's importance is very similar to All might in that his presence kept bad guys in the shadows for a long time and similarly without this symbol Japan would likely change for the worse. That’s why Gojo’s dream to reset Jujutsu society makes perfect sense, since he wants to foster strong allies who can one day fill the void and make it so he’s not holding everything on his back. There are other characters who have a similar threatening aura to Gojo, like Sukuna, Okkotsu, Mahito AND Toji. Sukuna in particular is really intriguing to me, because he very obviously has an elaborate plan in place going all the way back to the vow he made with Yuji, yet even now it’s still hard to piece together the details. Other characters I also think are great are Choso, Todo and Megumi, with Choso being someone I’ve surprisingly grown to like as things have progressed.
Next up, I enjoyed how Jujutsu Kaisen subverts expectations. Normally when you’re a certain point into a storyline you have a rough idea for how things might go, but Gege Akutami freuquently keeps you guessing. This element of unpredicabtily is one of the things that make Jujutsu kaisen so addictive, cause you need to see for yourself what happens in the next chapter. Moving to the power system, the best ability jujutsu kaisen had to offer is of course it’s variety of domain expansions. This is something that many of the best sorcerers can’t even use. Because the person who creates the domain is guaranteed to land a hit, one of the aspects of the manga I loved was the different ways people tried to survive this impossible situation. Naturally Gojo survived by simply expanding his own domain, but most people don’t exactly have that option. The power system also ties into politics, given that certain cursed techniques can only be inherited by specific families. My opinion now is that the value placed on certain techniques is actually fascinating, cause it means the power dynamics of certain families can change with the flip of a coin. People like Noritoshi Kamo are the best example of this, as they’re thrust into positions of power even if they ordinarily wouldn’t be suited to do it. When we look at Megumi he obviously has the coveted ten shadows technique and in recent chapters we saw how it can be used for a political advantage.

I still need to finish the anime but I will read the manga.
What I love about this show is how it takes old cliches and just subverts them. Like the revealing technique information cliche was used in JJK perfectly by making it a requirement to have the upper hand in battle. Other cliches perfected were -inner demon cliche flipped and made the demon inside the protag evil and an actual *MENACE* to the characters -The main characters don't have plot armor -Typical 1 v 1 fights in shounen are overturned by JJK's habit of jumping their enemies in teams or duos. - (Characters brought back to life cliche) While toji did come back to life he had limits to his new vessel and restrictions to follow. Not to mention the MC actually develops and learns to take innocent lives in order to save others.
Mei mei’s relationship with her little brother did throw me off big time lol I honestly thought I missed a chapter or panel but nope, no explanation whatsoever.

Hmm you think? I figured they gotta survive till the endgame at least Yuji/Megumi for sukuna’s revival + Gojo for a battle against full powered Sukuna which was (sort of) foreshadowed early on

fr man that specific panel of mei mei and ui ui just threw me of so bad i thought i skipped a few pages or something but nope it was as i saw it and i'm like huhhhh??? but overall. You pretty much accurately described what I personally felt about it especially the dislikes, as always great video

I’m on volume 5 and I like it. I think it’s super overhyped tbh. I really like how the mangaka explains the power rule set and how cursed energy works, but I feel like he’s neglected the characters a bit in the process. Like I said, I’m enjoying it, but I’m just so-so on it right now. I’m hoping it gets better. Definitely didn’t have the hot start of kaiju no 8 or chainsaw man for me

I have only watched anime and thought it was good but not really that great, the action scenes, the visuals were great but I personally didn't like how the powelevels were hanndled like only after a training of around 1 hr mc was able to use that much of his power and mechamaru understood that his hatred towards those born normal was meaningless only after a sensible talk, If someone could have understood that they were insensible that easily they wouldn't do it in the first place, and some other emotional changes felt surreal

Hi turtle ik this is a bit late but i have proof your bakugo is second ofa user is wrong dont get me wrong im a fan but its wromg because *SPOILER WARNING* deku kills shigaraki (under nanas influence) and also why would bakugo refuse giving deku his quirk and basically letting shigaraki destroy the hero society anyway i dont know why hirokoshi would randomly make shigaraki the most op man ever since he would basically be unkillable and i know i know hirokoshi loves plot twists again please prove me wrong like to make turtle aware of this

from my POV it seems that what happened to Gojo in the manga is the same thing that happened to Sukuna in the past, they got too powerful and because of that betrayed by the jujutsu community out of fear/envy/what ever reason people had
JJK has potential to be Anime of the Century tbh. After watching the video, I ordered all the manga but it was pretty expensive (One Volume is 15 dollars). I bought the manga till volume 8. Can’t wait to read it.

only series i've ever dropped. actually ruined my sundays reading new jjk because all the momentum from ever other shonen was thrown out the window. It's a 8/10 at it's best moments and a 4/10 the rest of the time.
