The EVO series was great!

I’ve been playing beta 1.7 I think its a fairly happy medium with quality of life and that classic feel of the older versions. My creativity hasn’t really dwindled like it does in newer versions. Im not worried about auto farms, better gear, or boss fights. Ive been building up a city slowly because of a lack of elytra each building feels like a real achievement in a sense. You said best with limitations it breeds creativity!

All the new things in the game makes it loosing the feeling of survival. The new armor, the totem of undying. This is why the older versions are better because it feels like a survival, the moody brightness and the mobs are far more dangerous which is perfect for survival game

I'm not so sure about that. With diamond armor you are almost invincible and in beta it was possible to spam arrows which was really op. The caves wasn't that gigantic so it was unlikely that you suddenly fell 40 blocks down

I've played both and I can certainly tell you one is better than the other current Minecraft was just more fun for me there were much more things to do after beating the main game like getting enchanted armor building farms and many more things beta Minecraft didn't really have much to do after you beat the main game sure you could build a lot but I Don't like getting all the resources since it's pretty slow in beta current Minecraft was just more fast pace with getting resources as they have been made more common and generally more building blocks overall I preferred current Minecraft more than beta

I haven't even used the totem of undying ever, a lot of the new stuff I just don't even touch or know how to get so I just play it as I have been for the last 10 years

armor was great but totem of undying is definitely just way too OP

I disagree with the statement of that more blocks create more flexibility and thus less creativity, i think more blocks actually can be a double edged sword, with the right skills you build way more complex and creative stuff that you wouldn't even think of making back in the day, and also it makes all builds have significantly more detail, which is always nice.

I have a feeling this is the same reason that Superflat survival has been on an incline lately, because by limiting the amount of resources available to the player, the player is forced to think outside of how they would play in a normal world! . .

personally I like building in beta not because there is more creativity, but because it forces you into a certain style

Even tho I didn't play beta when it came out nor a few years later (I started playing Minecraft around end of 2015/ beginning of 2016) but it is nostalgic to me because there was a minecraft song parody made in beta.

I set the update for my Minecraft on the Xbox 360 back to beta 1.6.6 and it's very relaxing.

I've played since 1.4.2, and going back from modern versions to even as recent as 1.12 is painful as hell, let alone 1.8, let alone beta 1.8!

I can't play java beta. so i play alpha pocket edition. because beta pocket edition is just... like the Minecraft of nowdays but with a gray menu panorama

I would love to play minecraft beta but every time I create a world and 10 minutes pass, the chunks start to become invisible and it becomes unplayable

Yeah that can happen with some versions when booted up with mojang's launcher. I'd suggest looking into betacraft launcher

Anyone reading this right now make sure you have a different launcher installed. Everything from 1.5 full release Minecraft and below does not play as nicely as it what once was unfortunately. Just a heads up for anyone! I think that changed started when they introduced the launcher mojang has today

modern minecraft has too much stuff that distracts you from building. find a village, fortress, stronghold, kill enderdragon, set up villager trading, loot end cities, run/fly around until you have all the types of saplings, ... in beta, you'd just get your diamond tools and you're at the end of 'progression', so you can just build up your world with beautiful structures with no distractions.

I currently have a long standing new version minecraft world, which I recently added mods to (ones that added fireflies, upgraded the birch biome, vertical and dirt slabs, things Mojang should've done) and I also have a long standing Beta 1.5 world- I can confidently say that everything in this video is pure nostalgia. Using your painting example: sure, an artist may have to be more creative with their five paint colors, but having as many colors as you need can lead to a much larger, bigger picture painting which is alot more satisfying to make. In my opinion, modern Minecraft is superior in every way

I understand your perspective. I find that, although there are less things to make or do in beta, they take longer or they are more difficult to complete, making the end result far more fulfilling than modern versions of the game. Instead of it taking an hour (or less) to get your first diamonds like in modern versions, you need to get yourself established more before that point. Also in modern Minecraft, after you get all your maxed out gear, and all the farms you will ever need, it stops feeling like a survival game, while in older versions there is always that survival aspect as there are no enchantments/stackable foods/wings

The thing i don't like about modern Minecraft aside from the chat report is how stuff is added just for the sake of it. It feels like the loop every game goes through, and eventually they care less and less about the details... Don't get me wrong, love new content! but how can a billion dollar game can't keep up with modders (most basic stuff like fps sodium or LoD FarPlaneTwo or even just new tones for the game) They got acquired by Microsoft and now it's gonna get milked :c They Know no effort is needed anymore to make money! It would just "waste" their "investment" money because of diminishing returns, since its already almost as big as it can get

that cobblestone texture is the most horrendous thing to grace my eyeballs

NO WAY. 1.20 HAS WAY MORE FEATURES. YOU SHOULD PLAY 1.20, 1.19, 1.18 OR ANY VERSION LOWER BUT NOT 1.15

this is such an awful take. youre saying limitation breeds creativity or whatever but that is in the pursuit of a goal and in this ancient version of minecraft there are just straight up less goals. it would be one thing to challenge yourself to kill the ender dragon under certain constraints therefore encouraging you to succeed in unique and interesting ways. but in this scenario the ender dragon does not exist in the first place. the only goal remaining to you in this primitive version is to build your own structures except there are just less blocks to build with. there is no structure that you can build in beta minecraft that you cannot build in current minecraft but there are plenty of structures the other way around. its quite objectively no pros all cons just 100% nostalgia cope.
