Why YOU should move to MEMPHIS, not NASHVILLE | Nashville vs Memphis

Nashville is great, but depending on what you're looking for, it may be getting harder and harder to find it in Nashville, especially for the right price. And with the current state of the Memphis area, there is a huge growth potential that just doesn't exist in the same way in Nashville. Which city is right for you?

    Life long Memphian, born and raised there. Moved to Nashville at the age of 51 to escape. Night and day difference. It’s not until you leave Memphis that you realize you don’t have to live like that. Memphis has horrible energy and a strong vortex that pulls you down. Memphis was the greatest place in the world until the nineties. Drive thru Hickory Hill for example. I remember when it was all new with a new mall and wonderful neighborhoods. Now because of white flight they call it Hickory Hood. The whole city has become a shithole. Cordova was the same way. Now it’s called “the dirty dova ”. Murder capital of the country. I miss the old Memphis of my youth but Nashville is the only way to go now. So those of you who think it’s so great………it’s just the familiar old vortex of darkness whispering in your ear.

    I 100% agree with you. I grew up in Memphis and moved to Nashville 8 years ago. Just night and day difference. There’s a constant happy and positive energy here in Nashville. I want to pull for Memphis but I accept reality, the place is AWFUL. I used to fight it and try to defend Memphis, I was just in denial. That city will beat you down to your knees it’s so depressing.

    Im from Nashville and I love poking fun at our sister city, Memphis. I was in the pyramid and was talking to some first responders and they asked where I was from and I told them Nashville and then the jokes started lol. We love Memphis and they love us. Memphis is more affordable then Nashville. Memphis need to go Metro that would provide more money for the city. The other towns such as Germantown, Bartlett, Millington use Memphis services. The city need to do like Nashville thats why Nashville is better off. Memphis use to be the beautiful city back in the 80s. The city need to pay the police officers more because that would possibly attract more people. The laws to be stronger but the kids need more tools to be more successful. They need more vocational schools to get them young kids who don't plan to go to college but need to make good money to live a good life. Before they go back into the streets to commit crimes. Memphis need more opportunities for people and better transportation for people to get around and mostly definitely clean up the blight. Make landlords pay the taxes on the property and keep it clean if nobody lives there. Memphis has it own culture you can live like a king or queen in Memphis because of low cost of living. I live in Memphis all my life until about 2.5 years ago. Memphis will always be my hometown but i needed more opportunities but I still love Memphis ❤

    odd that memphis has about 25,000 more students in the public school system than nashville has in its public system. nashville metro spins every statistic possible to make it look so much bigger than it really is. it has taken in just about all of middle tn---i think 14-16 counties, while memphis metro takes in about 9 counties. essentially, the greater memphis area, known as the mid-south, is roughly similar in size to the identified nashville-davidson county metro. the greater memphis population is estimated to be over 2.4 million, which is approximately 200-250,000 thousand more residents than metro nashville-davidson county. i think one should keep things in perspective, and often, it seems that few call nashville out about the realities of existence. their metro is now having to reduce their 2020 population count due to overcounting, while memphis, as usual, is challenging the u.s. census undercount by about 15,000. this undercounting has gone on for years, both in the negro communities, which include hispanics and africans. there has even been some question regarding asians. some of these groups habitually fail to respond to the census count because of fear based on a lack of their citizenship, and, with the blacks, their need to hide a male head of house, more specifically a putative father, who has failed to pay legal child support. in memphis, the guess re: the undercount of hispanics has been as much as 28-45%, according to a former hispanic leader. blacks have for years failed to fill out their census forms. it is believed this failure to report accounts for approximately 33-38% of the black population in shelby county.

  • @martinwright4125
    @martinwright41258 ай бұрын

    why not give the metro greater memphis population estimate which is est. to be 2.4 million? why not discuss the memphis-shelby undercount and its challenge to the 2020 census? why not point out the overcount of the nashville-davidson county population? why not consider shelby county size and population compared to davidson county---shelby has approximately 260,000 citizens than davidson county? davidson county has lost population to rutherford, williamson, and wilson counties. one last thing, one should never trust any news source that compares nashville to anything important. weather mowing the interstate medians, crying over its failure to attract a swedish furniture company, a particular grocery store, a particular clothes store....anything the nashville area makes it feel above other regions or cities is what that area thrives upon. i have heard several individuals comment on the blue oval city project and how nashville should have gotten the project. most nashvillians have a hard time being okay w/ the memphis metro prosperity. it is just their silly way. it is in their politics, day-to-day living, etc.

    It seems to me that getting accurate Memphis Metro population figures has always been difficult since the Mississippi boarder cities have grown so much causing disagreements of what all should be included in the metro area. Since West Memphis, AR doesn’t count itself as part of it despite the confusion that the name causes for non-native Memphians, some people get confused on whether the south of Stan boarder should or shouldn’t be included. Mississippi’s Olive Branch, Southaven, and Horn Lake all do have characteristics like suburbs of Memphis though even if they don’t have the tax connections being in another state like Collierville, Bartlett, and Germantown. That’s not completely unique throughout the country, but it’s not the norm from my experience living on the Florida-Georgia and Arkansas-Missouri state lines at different parts of my life. I never saw things as interconnected when I lived in those areas or when I’ve visited Nashville or Atlanta as when I’ve lived and grown up in Memphis.

    @@MemphisCorollaS I grew up in Memphis and Olive Branch. The metropolitan area population includes three counties in TN, 4 in MS, and 1 across the river in AR. That population is right over 1.3 million. I don’t mean to knock Memphis, I just had no idea where the original comment came up with a 2.4 million population figure, that is completely inaccurate.

    All of the Memphis area isn’t the small areas with high crime. There are plenty of areas within and around the city of Memphis that have little to no crime issues, and the new areas growing out in suburbs are attracting a lot of people who are relocating as well.
