    Hi. Thanks for your video. I have one of these installed on my new boat. I have a house battery and a motor battery. Just recently i noticed everytime we go out and the house battery gets really low it effects me starting my engine. It never use to do this. However if i keep my house battery well charged i have no issues. Can this blown fuse cause the issue? Where is the fuse. Where can i check this. Thanks

    Jeff i recentley installed 200w of solar with the victron controller. If the voltage of the panels incoming to house bank is over the 13 volt ACR thresh hold. does that mean my 2 start batteries and house are all being charged together if batt. swith is on all?

    So I have this unit which is the 7610 Relay and the 5511e Battery Switch. I also have the Prosport Marine 2 bank charger. Now my Stereo Shop did all my wiring. All my Stereo amps are on one side of the boat that connects to (2) Group 31 Optima batteries that are connected parallel + to + and - to - which is 12v. and the other side OI have another group 31 Optima for my starter. I would like to see if you can send me a Wire Diagram to see if they hooked up the 7610 Relay and the 5511e Battery Switch correctly. For some reason when I turn the switch to the off position my Stereo Capacitors starts to beep due to low volts. Please feel free to email me your proper method of wiring the above units that include the fuses that you mentioned in this video. Also, the lower 3 connections on the 7610 Relay that I believe is ground-light and ?

    Jeff hello. Thanks for all theae great video, i really enjoy the way you explain. Quick question if I may ot will clowe the loop of my questions. Boston had a notice on their Battery switch NEVER to leave the batteries in combine Mode while moving as it will cause serious engine electrical damage. Now how the Blue sea ACR makes it different. Does it stops the charge at one point? This eas not really covered in your video. Thanks a million. Mike

    the ACR on or the combine switch on will be the exact same result while running. I don't know why it would cause any issues while running. Most boats on the water with 2 or more batteries will either run with the switch in all / combine or with an ACR. All of them are still working.

    Hello I just can across your channel. I have a question. I am trying to figure out how to take the charge from my Yamaha 250 SHO to charge both my cranking battery and a house battery simultaneously. Recently I moved the outboard alternator cables from my cranking battery to my house battery in order to charge my dedicated house battery to power all my graphs and accessories while the big motor is running. Currently, I have an Ionic Lithium battery 12v 125ah as my house btry and my cranking is a 27 group AGM. Ideally, I would like to take the alternator charge from my ‘22 Yamaha 250 show and charge both the crank and house simultaneously while the big motor is running. Caveat!!!! I am looking to replace the 27g AGM with an Ionic 12v 125ah crank or deep cycle. Will a blueseas ACR 7611 be able to charge both batteries simultaneously

Both boats have johnson outboards. 1996 115hp with a 20amp RECTIFIER & REGULATOR and 1972 70hp with a 10amp RECTIFIER & REGULATOR. Can I use 10 gauge wire to run to the batteries for both boat. Hi Jeff, is the grounding sensing wire supposed to go to true (earth) ground, or can it go to the negative post on one of the batteries? I'm planning to install one of these along with a Off - On - Both switch from BSS, and the diagram on the back of the package makes it look like the wire needs to go to earth, but isn't the negative post of the batteries also ground to earth?

    1:00 Fuse/circuit breaker rating question... Just want to clarify as I found this part of the video confusing. If the fuses are meant to protect the module... And in this example the module has a max Amp rating of 120.... Why are the fuses/circuit breakers to be sized over the maximum value that module offers? 1.25 over the max current rating of 120? Sizing at 150amps?............. Or are you saying over the max current value being fed to the unit? And you would need to size up to a bigger module if you have a 120amp need....For example, I have a 25amp charge coming from my engine. The blue sea systems "Mini" rated at 65 amps which is adequate for my Evinrude 90HP. Are you saying I should size the circuit breaker at 25% over the MAX 65 amp rating of the module...? 80 amp circuit breaker? Thank you for making all of your content open source. I find your website and youtube information to be very helpful. A tutorial video on wiring one of these common items start to finish would be a great addition as I have not been able to find anything....

    Did you get any feedback on this? My understanding is that the fuse must always be at least 10% less than the module and wire it is protecting. Otherwise it is pointless, the module or wire will burn way before the fuse goes. I am going to install a 50Amp RCD on each battery before going to the ACR, and a wire gauge of 25mm, as my engine output current is 35Amp.

    I have a Mini ACR 7601 module as well. I'm not going to go too deep into what he said, but to clarify to you what he's trying to say: When installing this relay, it is ideal to size the fuse 25 - 50% of the size of the actual amperage the alternator is capable of outputting. Not the overall size of what the relay is capable of handling. Example: I have a 60 HP Mercury which is capable of outputting 19 - 20 amps from the stator past 5000 RPM. So with saying that, I am going to want to size either the fuse or breaker to be able to handle 30 - 40 amps before blowing or tripping off. I know you left this comment a year ago, but I hope this helps.

    In the video, Jeff states that a fuse is needed on both sides of the isolator. If I install the isolator next to the engine battery, why is a fuse required between the two?

  • @PacificYachtSystems

    @PacificYachtSystems

    Hi Roger, good question, because the negative sense wire is NOT the same size as the positive wire. Fusing the positive, assumes the negative wire is the same size as the positive wire.

    When selected a circuit breaker for your battery combiner, make sure the wiring and the battery combiner can handle the max amperage from the circuit breaker. Generally we size the wiring to allow the maximum rated amperage of the battery combiner.

    Not really, a battery combiner just shares a voltage, you'll need a DC to DC charging converter to modify the voltage from one battery to the other.

    I have a question and I just can't find the answer anywhere.. I am overhauling the electical system on my new sailing boat and planning to use a 50 Ah starter battery and a 110 Ah house battery. Let's say Im using a combiner (i.e. a cyrix-ct) and the batteries are unevenly charged (i.e. starter battery full, house battery empty). My question is what will happen when the relay gets activated when my alternator or solar panel provides power? Will the starter battery discharge into the house, causing high current flow and potentially damaging the system? In that case, should I buy an argofet isolator and a standby charger to keep the starter battery charged?

  • @PacificYachtSystems

    @PacificYachtSystems

    4 жыл бұрын

    Consider a battery isolators. Battery Isolators only allow current to go in one direction: alternator to batteries but not battery to battery or battery to alternator. With a battery isolator, the batteries will be isolated from one another.

    Battery combiners allow 2 batteries to share a charging voltage. Similar to a battery parallel switch but without the need of an operator turning the switch on and off.

    Good point, ha ha. The main reason for an ACR compared to an old style manual switch is to prevent the misadventure that results from an oversight causing both batteries to be depleted while at anchor. It's easy to forget, even once. Better to completely isolate the two banks, house feeds electronics and starter feeds engine. If you deplete the house bank at anchor with a manual switch, the next morning at startup you remember to fire up the engine on the start battery only. Then after a few minutes you need to remember to pair the two banks so house will be charged after starter is fully charged. Then if you decide to sail with wind, as you shut off the motor you need to remember to switch back to house so the starter battery isn't depleted. The combination of an ACR and an isolating battery switch does this all automatically, like an extra crew member who never makes a mistake.
