So I don't know why this video is blowing up now after 2 years, but I suppose it's tobacco season. So I will upload some more videos as I grow them this year to share more details. growing up in the 70s and early 80s I have worked numerous summers in the scorching heat of the southern NC tobacco fields and tobacco barns (old hot ass wood barns). Hard work and the only way we could earn money for school clothes. We actually worked from sun-up (06:00am) to sundown (1800) with a one-hour lunch break (all the older women would stay at the farmers home and cook the lunch...garden grown food and meat raised on the land- sweet tea to wash it down. I hated the hard work but as I look back - it created a strong work ethic for me later in life. Tobacoo was much "cleaner" back then...still sprayed with chemicals for the sucker leaves which really didn't work all that great. We still had to "sucker" and "top" each field a couple times each season- worst part of working in the bacca field was suckering! I do not smoke cigarettes, but I still found the smell of curing tobacco to be quite enticing on a late summer afternoon day. Unfortunately, this way of harvesting tobacco is long gone...Oh yea forgot to mention the HUMUNGOUS tobacco leaf eating worms (horn tipped worms). They could devour a whole plant in a couple of days-I use to collect them (LOL)in a Pringles can and toss them down my sister's shirt whenever she made me angry for some dumb shit. Seconds later after her screams, i am dashing through the field dying from laughter running for my life. The fun and joy we had was off the scale compared to today's crowd.

Growing tobacco is illegal in Australia, always blew my mind as a kid that you could go to jail for something they readily sold everywhere, cannabis made sense because of it being illegal, even though it didn't make sense for it to be illegal at least it was consistent. I always figured that is was the power of 'big tobacco' lobbying to kill competition from local growers. Anyway, laws never stopped me doing something I felt was not morally wrong, so I appreciate this knowledge!

I grew Havana tobacco this year I cured the tobacco stack together in a pylon I left them there for 14 days and remove leaves as they turned from dark green to Yellow to Brown the leaves are great quality very good for cigars and wonderful blunt wrappers give it a try I did and I'm happy with the results

Homemade tobacco ain’t the same as cigarettes. Not even close. 🔥🙏 There’s a reason it’s a sacred plant.

Facts, people smoked real “pipe” tobacco that wasn’t loaded with chemicals and additives there whole life with no cancer or Lu g disease, cancer is a reaction to your body being poisoned for a long time, real tobacco that’s properly grown and cured isn’t what people buy at the gas station, it’s an ingredient in cigarettes but definitely not the only ingredient. If you smoke real homegrown tobacco without the chemicals that are added now, I guarantee there will be no cancer risk, you might have lung issues when you are in your 80s but nothing like you see with cigarettes

I subbed literally because of this statement. "In a SHTF scenario, everybody stores stuff, food, ammunition, tobacco will always be a trade item". Being impartial is important, even if you disagree generally with what somebody does, like in this scenario, we can bond together from our want to be prepared. You may not personally agree that I have x, y, z guns, and I may not agree on some of the stuff you may own, but we both understand being prepared is smart. We can take that knowledge and share it among our community who MAY be interested in doing that type of thing, where myself or you wouldn't have that specific piece of knowledge. Great video. Growing tobacco for the first time this summer. I had no idea how huge these plants get! Some of my Kentucky burly leaves are bigger than my torso. One of my oriental plants has about 80-100 seed pods on the top, you are spot on about them sustaining me for life.

I grow cannabis for the same reason you grow tabacco, for the love of the plant. Love watching them grow and get to their full potential. Always learn something on every grow, especially outdoors. I don’t even smoke anymore and it’s a lot of time growing, drying and curing it. I just give it to anyone who wants it because legalization and the reservations around me totally killed prices so it’s next to impossible to even sell.

Yeah I've been growing for 30 years I love it, cannabis is my first love. I've grown some strange hybrids from 60 year old Thai seeds, still have some of them actually. Haven't grown in the last few years for the reasons you mentioned. It's just too affordable and we're not legally allowed to grow it in washington, because they screwed up when they legalized it

It's definitely worth It's weight in gold and perhaps even more given the proper scenario. The more desperate and beat down people are, the more they will want tobacco. The seeds, growing knowledge, drying and curing, and processing know how, would all be in high demand during the desperate times. I also love growing tobacco, along with growing all different kinds of plants, and I love smoking a pipe. I have no reason NOT to grow it! This is my 1st year growing tobacco and my plants are looking amazing. I'm growing oronoko strain. 1 of my plants I'm letting go to seed is almost 9ft tall. I swear, some of the lower leaves on mine are the size of like 15 cell phones put together. It's ridiculous. It's amazing what great compost and a micronutrient rich fertilizer will do for any plant. I cannot wait until mine is ready to smoke!

I find the plant interesting and I want to upset my health obsessed friends family and neighbors. I never considered smoking disgusting in the least. I smoked for 30 years. I quit 20 years ago this year. I told myself when the price per pack goes up to $4.00, I'll quit. I quit when it was $4.50 a pack. Now, it's just plain outrageous. I would smoke again in a smokey heartbeat if I were growing my own tobacco. I'm not concerned with health because when I quit drinking in 95', I was eventually supposed to feel better. The same was said if I quit smoking lol. Bull !. I really enjoyed smoking, probably more than anything else and I truly miss that. I've smoked cigarettes straight from the farm and it was like smoking gold. I want that kind of tobacco what ever kind that may be.

In boot camp, a can of dip was worth a standard 50 bucks, and I’m sure a lot more in some cases. I imagine jail, even more so. Anyone addicted to nicotine, knows all too well, that it’s when stress gets involved, the habit peaks in intensity. I’d bet tobacco has saved many lives in war scenarios. Personally I believe it’s one of the greatest plants there is

I had a wonderful crop a few years ago, but when I found out how hard it was to dry/cure I just composted it. Maybe I'll try again after watching this. They are beautiful plants.

Very cool. I am about to start this journey for a few reasons that you mentioned, so this information is invaluable, I am also a lover of growing all things. I would like to try to experiment by growing a few near potatoes in hopes that it will deter potato beetles. Some interesting info about tobacco which has been "hidden" is that it can have benefits for neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson's, which runs in my family. Now that tobacco is regarded as such a nasty thing, that research seems to have stopped.

The amount of info you packed into about 10 minutes is awesome. No clue why it took me to find this video until i thought i should definitely try to grow some tobacco. I grow a lot of plants anyway and im sure smoking home grown tobacco is much better in a lot of ways than cigarette or packaged regulated tobacco

I had 50 seedlings growing in a tent that started rooting to eachother. I dumped them outside because Ive been lazy this year planting and so far on 1 took and grew new leaves so far. Im happy to just get seeds for next year.

This is my first year attempting to grow tobacco. I remember my step dad grew it and dried it on the farm we lived on for a few years but i dont remember how he did it. So im trying my hand in it. Im just doing a typical Virginia cigarette type. I assume i wont get any actual tobacco from it this year because im learning as i go and im worried about the drying method honestly. I just wanted to try it and enjoy the challenge of growing it. I hope i get actual tobacco that can be used but i wont be upset if not. This is mainly a learning year for me. I'm sure you will do just fine it grows pretty fast and as long as you keep it well watered it should produce

I grew Havana cigar tobacco this year very high quality more than happy with the results and makes the most tastiest blunt wrapper ever all my friends like it

My dad died at 51 from it. My mom grew tobacco for the flowers because they were pretty and smelled nice.

If you shine the blacklight on commercial store bought cigs you can see the poison it doesn't show under a black light on home grown so I'd suggest home grown over vaping even if your trying to stop.

So I am obsessed with Awakening, obsessed with nature, and even more so obsessed with growing. Pretty much everything! I just love to watch things grow and take care of them. I just feel a very strong interconnectedness when doing so. This just came up in my feed, and I'm so glad it did because I had no idea that there was a shamanic type of tobacco other than rapè. Smoking is a very nice and very ancient habit, and is the fastest method of imbibing any medicament, I also have grown rustica, and tabacum an sylvestris, rustica is excellent for making baltic smoke cured, though sylvestris has got the finest quality's of leaf w a sweetness better than most other varietys, Cuban is a good alrounder with traits of rustica an wild like sylvestris cigar leaves, the recipe I had best success with was a 4000 Yr old Chinese one named "Ang houn" perfect for the pigtail, block press, pipe rolling and snuffs etc etc, the flowers are soo aromatic for those balmy summer evenings, love your knowledge and dedication... 💥💖🏁

@@TheBeefSlayer surprisingly inhalation is actually the fastest way to get a substance to the brain. Even faster than injection, which is counter intuitive, but its true.

I've been growing the Aztec tobacco for the last 5 years and I love seeing it grow. It's a beautiful and wonderful medicine. I got stung by a bee today and put a tobacco leaf on the sting and it was instantly better. ❤

Cool, as a pipe smoker they have such incredible processing and flavour and fermentation and blending techniques I love, it would be impossible to reproduce at home. But would be cool to get some golden Virginia seeds as a backup, and a bonus if they were self sustaining.

@@carpo719 I dont smoke tobacco myself anymore. I grow it for olfactory reasons (sniffing the leafs) and to gift it to people who appreciate it. My virginia tobacco was really loved by people who usually just smoke standard cigarettes, which taste like paper in my opinion. One question: How long do you think could the dried tobacco leafes be stored? I may want to grow a little bit more next year to have a stash

@@Spacedawg879 Indefinitely. It ages like a whiksy/fine wine, when kept in the appropriate environment. Boveda packs are your friend.

I use the same (past cropping) drying skills for drying foraged stinging nettle tops & dandelions, they smell and look awesome ,i keep them in BIG glass jars..the nettle look like proper good quality grade A💚 Trichome city! Theyre my second fav herb! Awesome video,a pearl of wisdom. 🙉🙈🙊 SPREAD JOY ❤️🌏⭐💚 FROM UK 🇬🇧 Oh..and the female nettle seeds later on in the season are also too potently AWESOME too. Sweet!.. Oh! And late winter/spring, the big orange roots are good for prostate protection! Thats it now.. Thanks⭐⭐⭐

Thanks for the vid! Started growing tobacco this year. They are finally starting to grow after a few months of being same size. My mom grew tobacco with her father and sold them as cigars. I want to keep that tradition going.

Excellent video. In high school we had little red boxes with snuff in it. I loved it. Id love to try some of that aztec tobacco as snuff woo im sure its lovely.

this is super old and the way the world is now, i'm not even sure this person is still alive (yet i havnt checked) but i'll leave a story, my grandma lived in Kentucky and i dunno why but she grew a lot of tobacco, she didnt smoke though, so i never knew why she grew it, i guess she just liked how it looked, anyways every year when we went to visit, it was during the same time all these awesome bright green caterpillars would show up on tobacco plants, i used to collect hundreds of them in a big basket just because i thought they looked cool lol it wasnt till later when i was an adult i realized i was out there working for free -.-

Super informative and to the point! Thanks for sharing your method and what you've learned over the years. I'm growing Nicotiana tabacum for the first time this year and am quite excited for harvest. It reminds me a lot of mullein in the way that it grows. For some reason when I started watching your video, I thought "I bet he lives in Portland."... then you mentioned Portland. I live in the Columbia Gorge on the WA side but was in Portland, OR for 13 years :)

Just wanted to drop a thanks for sharing your view of growing and drying tobacco! As a plant lover it is always interesting and fun to listen to another plant lovers views and experience regarding cultivation of plants. I am just about to start harvesting the first round of bottom leaves of my first ever tobacco grow. I intend to try different ways of curing, fermenting and drying to make my own "snus" (wich is a type of finely ground and moist tobacco with a couple additives that you put under your lip) and from what i have read there should be atleast 3 different and "synergetic" strains in such a mix. So I currently have nice rows of Havanna Deep Red, Kentucky One Sucker, Miss Mary (Sunlight Cured), Virginia Gold and three varieties that have been evolved from South America to fit a Swedish climate better and those are called Alida, Tofta and Bondtobak (Farmers tobacco). The last mentioned Bondtobak looks very similar to Rustica and it is also the most nicotine potent variety i have so I am guessing it is an evolved version of Rustica. Anyways, not gonna ramble on for too long but again, thanks for sharing! /Carl from Sweden

Hey man, I’m in Sweden now and struggling to figure out where to order seeds from. Do you have any experience growing the rustica here?

I grew nicotania rustica 2 years ago, this year i want to grow some turkish varieties including samsun. I also want to grow a cuban wrapper variety blunts.

Thanks for your video, I honestly can’t believe that I am only now coming across your channel! Especially since I am a vaper since 2018, and even more so, since for the last 2 years I have almost esclusively been vaping naturally extracted tobacco’s, in part because I am Italian, and moved back to Italy a year ago, and the Italian vaping culture is heavily centered around NETs, to the point of influencing hardware design and almost any Italian vape reviewer uses naturally extracted tobacco liquids as measures of judgment for rebuildable atomizers! So in the back of my mind as a vaper inclined towards diy learning about the crop is fascinating and various companies that produce e liquids from the actual plant have their methods of extraction, the best is overall “la tabaccheria,” I am curious and wouldn’t be surprised if I were preaching to the choir mentioning this!
