As I'm getting older we are not an active couple. The reason I love them and will always have a Springer is because they force me to get up and play so that keeps me feeling younger

I currently have three. My 14 year old was the rescue who turned us onto the breed. Those with no sense of humor, need not apply. These dogs are eager to please, energetic and funny as hell, they will make you laugh with some of their antics. They are "velcro" dogs, they will cuddle with you wherever whenever. Keep them active, socialize them and snuggle them.

Probably the best dog that I ever had the privilege to live with. He could hunt, he was super obedient, super affectionate, and when he perceived a threat he was steadfast and brave. He ended up getting cancer. My family misses him so much. His daughter is still with us. She is 18 years old, but still just as sweet as her poppa.

We are on our 3rd Springer spaniel, the first two lived beautiful lives til 14. We are older with this spaniel, and we use her energy to keep us in shape. The spaniel personality is like no other dog, love love this breed. This spaniel loves to visit the neighborhood and anyone walking by, she greets other dogs easily also. And she hugs, I mean pull it in kind of hug! We were asked to make her a hugging dog. LOL

I have a beautiful springer, Cooper. 4 years ago he would whine and claw at my chest, I couldn't figure out his strange behavior. Then I found out I had cancer. I have no doubt whatsoever that he knew and tried to tell me. Love you Cooper, great dog.

I didn't hunt with mine but took him on long hikes often. he would always amaze me how effortlessly he glided through the forest at full throttle. He would spring birds all the time on our walks. He found several turkeys before and a grouse once as well. He ran down a bunny and squirrel once. But he didn't kill them he just tossed them around to play with them for a little bit. He had a deceptive speed. I wouldn't consider him fast like some breeds I've seen, but he could be fast when he needed to be. These guys easily make themselves the center of attention in the home with all their antics. If he wasn't shoving a slimy ball into someone's lap, he was dropping his ball into someone's shoe to see if he could dig it out. He also turned into a world class frisbie player. I think he caught 12 or 13 in a row one time. I wish I recorded it lol.

We lost our beautiful Springer Spaniel, Molly a few weeks ago. She enjoyed going hunting with me when younger and just for walks and hugs when she got older and she far exceeded her expected lifespan and made it to just shy of 15 years old. I agree that Springers are loving and totally absorbed with their family. My Wife says no (sometimes maybe) but we have a spaniel shaped hole in our lives and I hope that we can find another Springer to fill that void. They are truly the most wonderful dogs to have in your family.

I got a Russian spaniel basicaly springer and cocker used to create bread I’m loving it

Grew up with two of them. Wonderful dogs. Dopey and gentle at home, hunting machines in the field. Very versatile breed

I’ve had them for 36 years, have had 5, currently got 2 fantastic dogs, great with children, love coming running with me, they are 10 and 11 and still very active.

Had do put my Springer boy down 2 days ago. Had him for 12 years and I don't know how to carry on. I will miss him for the rest of my life .

I know what you're going through Jessica. I hope you have someone you can talk to, since going through severe grief alone is not easy. My Springer Spaniel Emma, left me almost four years ago and unfortunately the grief does not want to let go. It is at least as difficult now as it was four years ago.

I grew up with this breed, as we are a family of hunters. I haven't had one in years, but recently just got another. 8 Week old puppy. I love your channel, they are amazing dogs if you know what to expect from them. One of the smartest dogs I have ever been around, I competed in obedience for years and they are one of my favorites to train.

I am so grateful to have come across your amazing videos. I am due to collect a springer puppy April 7th. your videos are brilliant!! thank you! I am going to do the perfect puppy course! and springer is perfect for me. I moved to the country a few months ago!!! keep up the awesome work!

Spaniels are the best. I have had 5 spaniels. I would not have any other breed after having a Spaniel.

My home clearly had Springer spaniel shaped hole in it ! ♥️ mine is my best friend and as an unexpected side effect I lost 20 lbs from all of our exercise together

That's great!

I've had 6 springers and the one I have now, [Maple] is the only one who has shed at all and it's not that bad. They're very smart and loyal. They're also a velcro breed and want to be by your side at all times. Once you have a springer, you'll be hooked on them.

its very interesting to here from other about how good they are at there protective and guarding skills, most say they aren't the best however my big lad is very good. I was out walking him when suddenly a teenager on a scooter starts shouting at me across the road that's when suddenly he starts doing a deep growl and showing his teeth at him, then he starts doing a thunderous bark (the first time we had ever heard him bark as he was only 7 months old) Another time when he had just turned 1 my friend walked into the house as the door was open and i didn't here him. we have a baby gate so he doesn't get through and as soon as he saw him he sprinted up to the gate and jumped up on it barking and growling not letting him in the room where i was. But when i introduced him to him he was perfect. So its interesting that people say they aren't protective at all? Brilliant video would love to get a Doberman in the future!

Excellent video, thanks! I've always liked big dogs mainly herding and retrieving dogs. Now that I'm getting older and live alone, I'm thinking a spaniel might be the next best thing for me! I love my golden retriever but sometimes he wears me out! It is going to break my heart if he goes before I do so I need an overlap in dogs. Ideally, I would have three dogs roughly three years apart in age. My golden is gentle, sweet, and kind although sometimes wild and crazy and nuts, he runs and swims for 2-3 hours/ day, or more, so we need a pup thats a kindred soul, less powerful and smaller though. LOL.

my springer is the best dog i have had loyal without a doubt the best workrt on all the shoots i go on as a pu she was very head strong as they all are but with good tuition they soo become one cracking good dog keeps me fit with 3 long walks daily come rain hail snow or sunshine

My English Springer Spaniel lived to 14. Looking for a new dog I was curious how different a show spaniel is vs a field spaniel, and how different of a personality the different type of Springers have (English/Show English/Field, Welsh, etc)

Ive had my Rosie from 10 weeks old and invested so much time training her from day one she doesn’t bark has such a naughty character pinching all my socks and shoes I walk her minimum 3 hours a day (this is a must & if you can’t do this don’t get one) she doesn’t like to be unclean so bathing and cleaning is a must. I won’t leave her on her own (that’s just me) but if she thinks I’m threatened she will guard my back ❤❤❤

Lost my Springer, Buddy at 12 and a half superb dog. Now have a springador, he's a year old and learns really quick, short black fur. Springers are a wonderful breed. What's your opinion on the mixed breeds ?

I'm considering getting a Springer Spaniel rescue that is almost 4 years old. He's currently being trained on basic commands and rides well in cars. Considering he's almost 4 years old and hasn't had much training, what would be the biggest concern(s) regarding his trainability at this age?

I've adopted a springer lovely dog but I want to start training him hes a 4yr old his vices are he chases and nips sheep which I want to correct. Aswell as very high prey drive with cats.. how do I calm him down around these animals?

Very interesting that the pros and cons are exactly the same and in the same order, and that some of the reasons are directly contradicting each other e.g. in this video you state “they don’t shed a lot and don’t need a lot of grooming” where’s in the cons video you state “they shed heavily and need regular coat maintenance”... might want to clear up some of the points there.. Regardless, I am owner of a springer spaniel and have grown up with the breed and find that they provide everything I need in a breed.

I think it depends on the dog. I've had springers all my life and I'd say it is 50/50 in terms of shedding/not shedding. My current springer doesn't shed much at all, but he does get clipped quite short every few months. My previous springer was the same, but the first two did shed quite a bit.

Can they pull you along on skate s or bike or wheelchair.?

Any tips of getting them to come instantly when you call them?

Hey brother, I know every pup is their own person, but taking into account the weight to age "limits". When would you say they can "tell" you when enough is enough". I don't plan on pushing my pup anytime before they are 12 months old. But I intend on them joining me on some heavy, long hikes. I am not inexperienced with the retriever breed and would start them at around 12 months on the harder stuff, are springers similar?

Sadly my Siberian husky is getting very old and its time to start thinking about our next family dog. She has been an amazing dog and my family have loved her. She now has arthritis that we have had to medicate and she can no longer come on our big family walks, This breaks my wife's heart. We have enjoyed were energetic and loving nature. she has been excellent with baby's and children. never dug or been destructive but we did do a lot of early training with her and provide a lot of exercise to tire her out. That being said she has some weaknesses that we would love to improve on in our next family dog. We think a Springer spaniel is currently top of that list. A few things we would love our next dog to be better at are. Running with the family when on walks and bike rides off leash Swimming with the family at the lake without running away / roaming to other groups Traveling in the car without filling it with hair My children would love the dog to go to there bed rooms on occasions (Our Husky hates walking on the wood floors in our home so she only sits on her indoor bed when in the house in one location and wont move anywhere else inside the house - even when called. Strangely though has no problem with the outside deck) Better with other dogs. (We find even though our Husky was fine with other dogs. Other dogs seem to view Husky's as a threat and behaved erratically, causing us to give up the dog parks and the like.) Come to the office and sit at work desk and not wonder off. Other questions about Springer Spaniels Are they prone to developing persistent barking issues? Are they fussy eater? Do they jump up on guests? (Training?) Would you recommend we add the puppy to the family now with the Husky or wait until she passes? (Would a Springer pup learn from my old Husky how to behave?) Do you have any breeders' in Australia that you would recommend we get in contact with?

They seem to be very food driven dogs. 2 of my old springers were not fussy eaters. And you can train them pretty easily. Very attentive

They can overdo it with barking but training fixes it (and they pick up all training quickly). Not fussy eaters in my experience and honestly, adding a pup now (assuming your husky is still with you and you're in a position to deal with a pup) would be good for your husky and the pup. Might give the old girl a new lease of life!

Not sure in my case they barked when the postman and paper guy came. He also barked at night if he heard something or lightening I think he probably scared sway a few robbers. My dog was very protective and we loved him part of our home.

My family actually getting a spinger spaniel next month where going to be able to give a lot of walk because we have people on week day in out of the out a lot I’m planning get some of his energy by playing with my neighbors his name going to be Sammy and I hope we’ll be able to give a lot affection

my springer knows how to get what he wants he's really bitey so he tends to go too far quite often(biting too hard or biting sensitive spots) I tend to ignore him as punishment(because he's really clingy)and he'll give me this look as if he's about to cry and it works every time

I find it rather funny and weird that in this video u talk about NOT heavy shedders, and low maintainance and in the other video of "why u shouldn't get 1" it's a heavy shedder and higher Maintenance. Just like some other points that don't add up to the other video and are opposite of eachother. No judging here just somthing I noticed that didn't go hand in hand with eachother

Guarding depends on their owner my dad could put my sister as a baby on a blanket on the floor and no one better get near that kid except mom or dad and better walk around no stepping over. My mom took her to the vet and because my dad always gave the command watch her while leaving for work. The vet had to muzzle her because everytime the vet got too close to my mom she’d growl. Just as a warning “ hey bub she’s taken “ kinda notice. Same with my dad owned a construction company and a journeyman came to my house for tools. He didn’t want to take anything out of the house with that dog .

How can you find out if you have a working springer or a show

If their nose is on the ground constantly, sniffing things out and they want to run, they're a working dog. My current dog is from gun dog stock and the difference between him and my previous dog is stark. His energy levels are much higher and his focus is clearly on beating - if there's a hedge, he'll be under it looking for birds.

i would disagree on the shedding. although mine is 9 and a half and has had minor thyroid issues, she has always shed quite a lot. i wouldn’t say they’re low shed dogs. you will find fur everywhere

I Can see alot of people have Them here so i have a question, what size harness is best for them? Small medium or large? Ofc it’s gonna have a collar if i do buy one, but im a skittish when it comes to using collars for walks since they Can glide off to easily.

I’m completely in love with springers, but I’m also afraid about their energy level... I love long walks, but more than that, I am not really, a „sport type” myself. Had a rescue dog (mixed breed, but close to Husky) that even after 1-1,5 h walk (which was my daily max for the longest walk - because of work and other personal responsibilities) napped for 15-20 minutes and than was again bored and full of energy - that was to much for me and I had to find him more (=hyper) active home. Is the springer like normal-high energy dog or is it’s level of energy more like hyper-high? 😅 Could someone tell me please?

I might add, that I’m a horse rider, so I don’t really look for, a couch potato dog 😅 Would love to find a perfect companion in the stable, but also a dog that will be able to stay calmly at home for a day if I had something important to do and didn’t have as much time for him (my previous dog was only ok in the first situation. One day without 2 hours of exercise and he was going wiiiiiild from boredom 😬 With enough stimulation he was an angel though. I tried working with a behaviourist, but we agreed that maybe that was just his nature)

They get along really well with other dogs and cats but unfortunately, you're what they really want, so if someone isn't home with them frequently, it will make them anxious. Another dog or cat won't take away that anxiety.

What would your opinion be on a Springer Spaniel Service Dog?

Whats its service? All a Springer Spaniel can do as a service dog is sniff things out its a great sniffer dog but not use anywhere else in service great at sniffing out drugs and even bombs and can save many lives however they are not good as guard dogs, atttack dogs or any situation where they need to attack prey. They are also good gn dogs usually.

They're incredibly smart and would pick up the training very quickly, but they do need a lot of exercise. And they can be a bit loopy rather than the kind of calm required of service dogs. But I guess it depends on what kind of service dog you'd need them to be.

I've had both all my life and they love cats in my experience. The cat always rules the roost as you would expect, but my cats and dogs have always had close bonds. It didn't matter if the cat showed up as a kitten or if it was a fully grown cat, the dogs always saw it as a new friend to play with.

hmm.. 1:57 really look more like a Welsh springer spaniel.. not a English springer spaniel. :) Just saying it'S interesting to know that the welsh is different from the English springer.

Why? I lost one to 3 tumours the dog was so athletic, smart, strong and enduring that it just wasn't obvious he was seriously ill he was put down fighting and kicking like a hero it felt so wrong but the choice was he died or he live with 3 legs and he was the kind of dog who had to live with all his legs he was a genetic freak when it came to strength power and athletisism. It was and probably always will be the saddest death I will ever have to remember.

These dogs are better for upland bird hunting. Boykin spaniels are better for duck hunting. That’s the only reason I’m getting a boykin instead of a springer. I love both breeds but duck hunting is a big priority for me.

I have a half Springer half Boykin. She looks more like a Boykin. Just a small white patch on her chest.

But if you get a show spaniel they are more laid back

They are not neat in drinking 😅😅
