It's time to go to our first ever van life festival, Descend on Bend! We have been so excited for this and we just got the van back from the shop after being repaired from it's accident. So we are ready to hit the road. It's a long distance, so the first night we drive approximately 7 hours, to the Buckeye springs area, which is north of Mammoth Lakes on the 395 North. Then the next day, we drive another 7ish hours into Oregon and stay at a snow-park an hour south of the Descend event.
We wake up the next am, drive an hour and head into Descend, where we are greeted by velociraptors who get us numbered and registered and ready for an amazing weekend ahead. We drive though the main parts of the event to look for our parking spot for the weekend. We end up parking on the exit road out of the event. We walk around and get the lay out of the area. There's a camp store, makers market, individual vendors, slip n slide and a beer hall. We make some new friends when someone gets stuck in the soft sand just in front of us, It's all hands on deck to help her out and get her settled.
That evening, there's a potluck and chili and salsa competition. After a short intro from the emcees, it's time for some amazing live music, we'll link their socials below. The next morning, we wake up and enjoy some coffee from the autobahn coffee van and take part in some morning yoga. There are lots of events going on as well such as a raffle and cocktail hours and comedy hour. We actually ended up winning a cool descend sign at the raffle and hang out by our propane fire pit for the evening.
The next morning is the synchro run at the big hole in the ground. It's a steep and rough road down to the bottom of the hole, so we hike a mile to the upper rim to watch from above. There's all sorts of fun happening including vehicles jumping off ramps. We enjoy some more crafts, cocktails, cooking demos and live music before hanging out again for the night. The next morning is the end of the event so it's time to head out and make our way back home. It's an amazing annual event and we're looking forward to going again this year! Hi! We're Chris and Tracy and we love to #travel. Unfortunately, we both have full time jobs working in healthcare which require us to have a home base, instead of the digital nomad life that we envy. However, this lifestyle has allowed us to learn the ins and outs of planning #vacations. When we first met, we were very young and enjoyed some domestic travel. When we got married, we decided to go onto our first #international trip together. Let's just say, Tracy caught a bad case of the travel bug. So it was our mission to go everywhere!
We try to plan 3-4 "big" trips a year. In total, we have been to 64 countries together (Chris is at 75 total himself). The biggest thing that we have taken away from this is how to be savvy while traveling. At first, we took a lot of cruises because they were easy. However, we met some new friends on a cruise who told us to come visit them in Malaysia and that was our first trip that we planned all on our own. Let's say it was a great trip but we made a few mistakes, like severely overpaying for our taxi in Bali. However, we have used everything as a learning experience. We really love the logistics of planning trips and getting the best deals and experiences. And it would be selfish to keep this knowledge to ourselves!
We have lots of friends and family come to us for advice or helping planning. So why not expand our audience and help everyone out! Our motto in life is champagne taste on a beer budget, or more correctly, a 5 star hotel taste for a hostel price.
