►SCRIPT
The key though to drop mixing is timing, and knowing where to stop your previous song, and where to start your next song.
And it can be done by either pressing the play/pause buttons or using your volume faders or crossfader.
Anyway with that said, let’s start with the first lesson which is Chorus Drop Mixing
So this is a technique typically done by EDM superstars to keep the energy of the mix going. And this technique works best for EDM, House, Trap, Dubstep and the like.
Anyway it works by shifting songs 4 beats before their drop section. And this section in particular, is usually the part where they do a 4 beat countdown before the drop. So the first thing you want to do is cue point your songs. So we’ll cue point both songs’, 4 beats before their drop section
Now, the cue point A on the first song, will just be our visual cue point to shift songs. And the cue point A on the second song will be the section where we’ll trigger and play it.
So, here’s how we do it.
With both volume faders all the way up, we’ll play the first song then wait till it reaches its cue point A section, then once we reach it, at the same time. We’ll lower its volume fader, then trigger and play the next song via its cue point A section.
The next technique is pretty similar to the first one, but this time, we’ll be mixing at the breakdown sections of songs to help smoothen our transitions.
So like the first technique, the first step here is to cue point our songs, but this time, we’ll cue point them at their breakdown section. And this section is a section that usually follows a chorus.
With those positions cue pointed as cue point A, all we have to do now play the 1st song, then once we reach its cue point A breakdown section, we’ll trigger and play the next song via its cue point A breakdown section
Now if you guys wanna enhance and smoothen out your drop mixing. A useful effect that I use is echo. So I’ll activate echo on the song I want to drop mix from, right before it reaches its drop mix section.
Now, the 3rd way involves drop mixing and using the echo effect. And this technique is a great way to transition huge BPM differences, genres and vibes. And a lot of hip hop DJ’s like Jazz Jeff use this technique all the time.
So in this method, we don’t need to cue point our current song, all we have to do is cue point our next song at the section we want it to begin.
So the key to doing this transition is finding a good song with a good intro.
So this technique, works by letting the current song play, and echoing it out at the end of a phrase. Followed by playing the next song via its cue point intro section;
So The first step is to cue point our next song at an ideal intro section. So for Song B, I’ll cue point its beginning
Once that is done, the next step is to simply play the next song, activate an echo effect on it, then either stop or bring down its volume.
Then as the echo tail lingers, play the next song by either drumming it, scratching it, or just triggering it

I'm a pro DJ for 26 years (DJs don't quit, they work on side projects) and even though nothing you said on this video is alien to me, I too have learned a thing or two (like how to improve my since-always terrible baby scratch). You guys deserve to be where you are, you're doing so much for the profession.

Carlo the work you put into these videos even down to little things like finding that track what had the 1-2-3-4 and storing as a hot cue just to show us the audience what you mean by 4 beats before is unbelievable pal , you must put some mega time into these tutorials before you let us see them, A Truly dedicated guy to music and teaching, brilliant stuff keep it up 👍
Great job with this cannel, man! 4ever grateful 🙏
hey man, congrats on the channel! im starting my dj life for funsies and everything i learned came from you (and might aswell keep it coming tho, lol). i think that the biggest reason is that you do your videos on a beginners controller, which makes it more approachable if you know what i mean. thx for your hard work, as soon as my controller arrives, im subbing for sure to make the best out of it!

Your videos are very informative ! I have a Pioneer DDJ-SB, I'm trying to change my significant skills to becoming a PRO DJ, I've learned that my DJ deck has 2 cue buttons together, I'm pretty sure other DJ deck brands have this too ? I also use Virtual DJ software for mixing (hopefully soon I'll be downloading a new DJ software as I have had VirtualDJ for the last 5 years !) I really admire your hard work to give these tutorials out to beginners, have you ever had experience with music production like making music ?
Back in the 80's drop mixing was called cut mixing and I did that a lot. But with all the effects on controllers and mixers today it's so much more fun.

A couple of things. I understand why you used cue point A in the video, but when I'm setting visual cue points, I don't use A, B, C or D (1, 2, 3, 4). I used the next 4 (E, F, G & H). I also have a specific color code for visual cue points in Serato. I set all of those to light green so I know in advance what that cue point is for. I was also going to mention the "Clean echo out" FX as an alternative to straight echo, but you pretty much covered it in the last transition...
