Why You’re Overwhelmed So Easily | Build With Rob EP 93

Are you overwhelmed, or are you out of capacity?
It’s time to change the way you think about being overwhelmed. No matter how much you have going on around you, it comes down to the amount of things you can handle at once. That is the limit of your capacity. When you run over your capacity, your mind essentially breaks. It drives you, without your consent, into irrational thought, poor decision making, and overreactions to stimuli. You try to do too much, you end up in a worse place, not a better one. There’s no medal for being the most overwhelmed. Even Rob finds himself occasionally awash in outrageous, unrealistic thoughts when he tips over his capacity limit. As he will explain in this episode, the key is to understand your limits and instead of pushing past them, optimize your life for increased energy and capacity so that you never go too far.

The reason this podcast isn't so popular is because what Rob is saying is so above most people you have to have a similar mentality as rob to understand the wisdom he is dropping.

I don’t care if this is popular or not… I just hope he continues to treat this as philanthropy instead of a numbers mission. He’s proven his success, this is a gift for the broken and the gifted alike. This GIFT isn’t about quantity, it’s about quality for the few who seek it out.

Im 32years old. Until hearing this, I was genuinely under the impression that my ‘numbing process’ was necessary and a way for me to ‘regroup’ from all of the directions I travel. When you talked about wanting wine and pizza, and how that ‘craving to numb’ is a primal response, it helped me to realize and become aware of the fact that my ‘relaxing’ periods are actually ‘numbing’ periods. When you openly share your insights, your flaws, your victories and your struggles..it makes me feel companionship, discovery, Inspiration, and growth. You’re such a powerful individual and I deeply appreciate your leadership 🙏🏽

well said, i completely agree. and im 31, i needed this.. as a recovering addict who got clean alone with no help, i needed to acknowledge this numbing is something we all feel and the difference with me is that i also had deep lain i was running from. so that exacerbated the desire to numb; something i now see most people feel aswell.. this was an eye opener to be genuinely honest.

I came across this video a year late & this is GOD SENT to me. Words to describe me right now: overwhelmed, fatigued, irritable, immune system is getting weaker. I need an additional mantra in life "REST IS GOOD, REST IS GOOD, REST GOOD". The world is not gonna collapse if I take a break from everything for a day. It's not as if Elon Musk would be bankrupt if I take a full night's sleep tonight. My bills are still gonna get paid if I slow down things for a moment.

This video was so relatable. 1) We take actions to support our irrational feelings when we’re overcapacity - don’t do that 2) Irrational states are okay and will happen, to everyone 3) relax in a healthy way to heal your overwhelmed mind, then get back to your goals

I grew up watching Rob being a skater punk rocker myself, and it’s cool seeing myself now at age 36 and him at whatever age he is, it’s kinda like we grew up together. In a non weird way. That sounds weird. But you either get it or you don’t idc.

Feeling extremely thankful for this message right now. Sometimes just hearing a subject defined with even one new word that was previously unrelated to the subject in my mind is enough to unlock an entire new outlook and strategy. “Capacity”and “Negative scenario planning” 🤯 That’s a blind spot for me. I’m gonna think about this and write about it so I can implement this mindset.

Rob, you hit the nail on the head .... Clean talk... BUT ... I think at the end of the show, you should do a 5 minute power talk to give the SPECIFICS , of how to implement this into your life. Step by step . IE, wake up time, how you manage your day (Write it down or ?) etc.

just found the channel, huge inspiration.. i never realized how all those small things that i was putting off were still actively stopping my brain from "catching up" so to speak, and to achieve balance... i must have 2 dozen small-> medium things ive been putting off for months or a year or more.. i gotta deal with that now clearly. because i drain myself daily and as a recovering addict, im already coming from a daek and desperate place. i need to feel the way i deserve to ONCE ive completed those tasks; in order for me to take on more steps towards self improvement. so much i want to achieve but im going it solo, got clean solo and have no support so i need to do what i can to get the most recharge and enjoyment to keep myself motivated, god knows how difficult this is for me. but im directing the effort poorly , and i see that now. i did before but didn't consider it had an everpresent effect so long as i still not addressing those issues. as ridiculous as that now sounds. I've let myself and those i love down for to long, my egotistical delusional thought process was bigger than i thought but i took this video to heart.

I needed this today. Thank you Rob. You have been making such an impact on me over the last few weeks since I started listening to your podcast. I just had a breakdown this week and I am certain it was because of an over capacity episode. It was came after feeling sick, I got a cold or something and I was still holding all the things together that I'm responsible for. My episode spun into an anxiety for 4 days. It's got some financial stress mixed in with other issues and I'm just now feeling better. I don't want to give up on my goals. I have the vision and I just need to stay strong and optimized (which is what I'm learning from you). I need to be careful I don't get over capacity.

You nailed it Rob. I'm in recovery and the only way I was to fully commit to recovery was do pay attention to my capacity because when I would start to get overwhelmed with life on life's terms I was looking for a quick fix to get back in it when really I just needed more rest as much as I powered through it, which always resulted in me using something, now it's sugar and I just feel like crap the next day but now I just need to take a time out and get that extra hour of sleep, or meditate longer, more frequently, a healthy approach, and then the day day im back like I never left, no hangover and feeling ready to take in whatever life throws at me. Thanks brother 🙏🙌💯💙 You have found true happiness and I know what that feeling is like. No money or drug can give us that. I laughed when you talked about your wife, mine is the same. Doesn't know how to manage capicity in a healthy way and can I only pray for and encourage her with hopes that one day she will have the mental capacity like us🙌💯

It's so interesting to follow your thought streams, they are so different from mine. Nice that you work hard to eliminate the harmful elements of everyday life, I do believe purifying your body as much as possible is a good thing to do. I use supplements and eschew the bad habits as well. The only substance you haven't mentioned avoiding is flouride. I've read about the toxicity of flouride and what it does to our bodies, particularly to our brain functionality. Looking forward to more Rob Dyrdek "as for me..." moments!
