Why You're Coming Over The Top In Your Golf Swing + How To Fix It!

Спорт

How To Fix Your Slice In 15 Shots:
Are you coming over the top in your golf swing? Here's how to fix it!
Coming over the top in your golf swing simply means not following the correct club path on your downswing... Instead of swinging down and delivering the club from the inside, your club falls outside of your swing plane, and you end up losing power and/or hitting a nasty slice.
The main reason you're coming over the top is due to over-use of your body, and the sequence of motion in your swing is off.
The first step to fixing this is taking a look at the initial move away from the ball...
In the video you'll see a simple way to insure that your initial move away gets you into position for an on-plane swing that avoids the over the top move.
Next, we'll take a look at your downswing and how to use your arms in your swing and get your club to fall down on plane so you can hit more solid shots with better accuracy, more distance.

I've spent a lot of time watching KZread golf videos and can truthfully say that this clip by Jim Roy is one of the best I've come across. I've been struggling with "coming over the top", and Jim's instruction about "quieting the body" and "giving room for the arms to swing" was a real eye-opener to me. Where many noted golf instructors are saying that you need to "fire the lower body first" and "move the hips", this instruction says to "quiet" the body and let the arms swing freely from the inside. I tried it, and it works! I'm now following all of Jim's KZread videos, and I have found him to be a terrific teacher of the golf swing. Also, check out his instructional video on posture. It's a great one, too!

I've struggled with this for months. Unfortunately my instructor couldn't relay the same info you just did in your video. One day while at the range, I tried something new, which was allowing my wrists to move instead of my arms just being an extension of the club. As soon as you said "too much tension in your arms" I immediately related. Great videos!

Try the head cover/towel under back armpit drill. Much better because it actually teaches you how to swing on balance. Also it wont mess up your aim like this back foot drill.

@@jacobsommers6952 that drill isnt bad but aim was not the focus. Once I got a feel for my drill, the whole point is to set up square and have the in to out path feel incorporated. I have even been using that as part of my pre-shot routine with great success.

At 0:51, you nailed what I do. I've always (but been unaware of) started the downswing with my upper body, causing my club to be steep, hands out away from the body, and an outside in swing path. You're video helped me discover this. I went to the range to fix this - it's definitely awkward because the right way is new, but man did I ever get a hold of a few with a seemingly effortless swing because it was my hips that were dragging my upper body through to contact. I went from 240 yd slices to hitting the range net about 80ft up the net at the 245 marker! Thanks for the video. Very much appreciated.

Same drill my golf coach gave me, the right foot even with left heel. However, I like that you added the other one about pausing at the top and starting with the arms. My coach didn't inform me of that and I did suspect that the first move on my down swing was causing the over the top swing. Your video confirms it - thanks.

i've been golfing a long time and from observing myself and others it seems almost instinctive for most people to swing out to in. so some times for me i'll allow for it and line up a little left and open the face a bit and it seems to work with a bit of fade but you have to watch out for the pull. it's a faily powerful shot but shoots up high.

Anyone else keep noticing the random golf balls in front of him for no reason?!? Haha Awesome video Jim. I went drom a 20 to a 7 handicap in one year by building a sim and intense practice; however my natural swing is over the top.. I spent 6 hrs yesterday on my sim trying to fix my over the top swing. It wasn't until I gave up, wanted to snap every club in my bag 5-hrs later, that I came across this video. I finally felt like what it's supposed to feel like to swing without effort and sort of look like a pro on my replay cameras. Now how to engrave this will be the challenge. Is it common to "fat" shots often when you change to this swing at first? I hope so.

I went to the range & tried some of this & was pleasantly surprised it worked! the only reason I say "surprised" is because it felt soooo weird. I had to tell my baseball brain to swing to hit the ball to left-center field & once i did that, i started hitting square in the clubface 9 out of 10 times. Thanks for the video PGZ guy!
