It's good to see someone still happy with their decade old E70. I bought my 2012 BMW E70 M50d in 2015 , now with 95,000 Km on it - it replaced an E46 4.8iS.which I loved. The design, build quality & performance are still great & I'm reluctant to replace it. The current BMWs are large & mostly ugly but I could be unfaithful in a Cayenne! I recently replaced the run-flat tyres with conventional Pirellis which made a huge difference to the ride. To reduce the 1/4 second delay on take off compared to the V8, I installed a SAAS throttle booster which certainly helps. Diesel fuel economy is much better at 8.6 L/100Km versus 13.5 L/100Km for the V8 & the 0 -100Km time is similar at around 5.5 seconds. Reliability has been great with no significant defects occurring. I avoid dealerships, it's serviced annually by a very good independent who was BMW trained here in Australia.

I've had my x5 e70 for 2 years now, bought it 2nd hand. I was scared to buy one because of reliability concerns and I did take my time to find a well looked after / well serviced car but this has been the most reliable car I've owned. Love driving in it, beautiful design inside and out - it was designed by a renault designer I believe. I still think the angel eyes are better looking than the current futuristic look, it was the last design that stayed true to BMW's original round lamps from previous decades. Great muscular buldges from every angle. Nothing to complain about other than the fact I wish I bought one with the side steps, mine has no steps and this is handy to have when requiring roof access to wash the car or mount a bike.

I own the 3.0 SD model (35d before it got renamed) which uses an identical M57 engine as the 30d in the video. I've had quite bad luck with mine, although i still love driving it. For the past 2 years I've had most PDC sensors changed, air regulator valve for the intake changed (used to make the engine stop smoothly and initiate DPF regen), both tail lights have taken in water and has had to be changed. Furthermore 6 month ago I had a main bearing go in the engine, which made ment replacing the entire engine... I've done every service in a timely manner. So sure it's a great car, but you might be unlucky like me.

@@Birmingham_racing Engine-wise, no. But I'll need my AC pressure switch replaced because I've got a full tank of refridgerant but barely cooling. Additionally, I had one of my front calipers seize, so needed new discs, pads and a nearside caliper. I do need to do a gearbox service on the 8 speed auto since it's getting to 100k miles. But aside from new oil every 6k miles / 1 year, and the typical age related wear and tear which I had also experienced on my old Merc W204 C220, it just does the job.

You should do a review of the X6 as well please! These cars are amazing all rounders - safe, luxurious, economical and great performance. As for “off-road” - most owners will never do more off-roading than parking on a sidewalk or the odd gravel road - myself included with my F16. swap out the tires and wheels and it's really a solid car off-road. I have taken my x5 35d through the deserts of southern Utah and it handled like a champ. I use the same wheel setup now that I live in a city. I agree those wheels won't do much in the dirt. I use the diesel for lots of towing, the airbag springs in the back make heavy loads doable. It's a really nice all-around truck for someone who wants a BMW instead of a full sized pickup

Yeah, I bought my 2011 30D x-drive to have a safe and comfortable on-road car with enough and practical luggage space, and it certainly has lived up to that. I don't drive off-road and I don't consider it an off-road car, but rather a good winter car. With a little bit of a diesel tune it is even quite fast. I have nothing to complain about yet, after two years of ownership. I really can't say that the wheel is heavy to turn. My one has active steering so I don't really have to turn the wheel a whole lot at slow speeds, but then again I'm a big guy so I guess I wouldn't notice anyway..

By the way, the previous X5 e53 was mainly in auto versions (5 gear & later 6 gear Auto versions) and one manual version. And one day the engine just started smoking due to valve seal flaws in total I had to pay 10,000$ to get it fixed then get it appraised and sold for 7,000$. If you’re going to buy a bmw buy an M car. I wouldn't call the E70 not worthy off-road. The facelift gave the car almost an inch more ground clearance and most X5s come with sport tires so now they're known for not being good but something as simple as tires change everything. Try taking a Land Rover off-road with sport tires and not even 4 low, lockers would help that thing.

It's only got clearance on it's side. The very unreliable airsprings, the low profile tyres, tendency to develop oil leaks and un-reinforced suspension are not suited to off-road at all. Drive it like a Hilux and it will be off the road permanently after 10,000 miles....

You left your Fox kneepad on... So, probably not so obvious question is "Can you carry your enduro bikes in the boot of the car without taking off the wheel?" • @market_car

Hmmm to be honest I am not one hundred percent sure because I don't ride enduro but there is definitely space for a road bike (or two) in the back (without taking the wheel (or anything else) off) if you fold the seats down because then it becomes a huge space. You could probably comfortably live out of this car if you had to. Would be a really nice replacement for the mercedes if you ask me. Thanks for the comment!

I've seen ExoticCar PayPlace's videos on his E70 and it was refreshing to see somebody do another video. What's been your major issues you've had with the car?
