I bought a piece of property that would accommodate a pond . Namely hilly cheap land that a simple dam would produce a pond . The beauty , the fish and the wild life makes living here feel like heaven .

We have two ponds here on the farm. Primarily they were built for cattle watering and fire control but all the things you listed are benefits of the ponds. We had the FFA group here to work on them and analyze water quality etc, for the fish. total learning experience.

I have two three acre ponds. I'm planning on raising the dam on the lower pond and cutting out the ends of the upper dam leaving the middle as an island. This would also expand the pond up a large ravine making one 9 acre lake.

Mr Lucas great video. We have 2 ponds on the homestead. One original pond when we moved here back in the 60's. we have stocked that pond with bass, crappie, perch, & catfish. Our other pond we build about 5 years ago and have stocked it with perch and crappie only. Real nice being able to go down there and putting a bobby garland bait on the ultra light and catching crappie on brush piles i put in it. At some point i would like to build a little cabine around the new pond. it has a better setting for it to be able to relax. That main purpose of the ponds on the property is watering the cattle. Cows are very hard on ponds though but we enjoy our cattle.

Cattle are a great reason to have a pond though! I can’t wait to get more fence built and start having cattle again. My freezer is getting empty…. Haha. Thanks for watching!

Finally built ours. Only about 8/10ths of an acre but it looks good where it is. Trying to get it stocked now but the right size and mixture of fish hasn't shown up as of yet. Still, the deer are using it for watering, the turkeys have room to strut, the dove use it morning and evening, we hear more quail in the evening, and the frog and cricket sounds at night are amazing (we even crack the window in the bedroom to listen to them). Additionally, we plan on using it for irrigation of the garden and yard. Oh, the dogs absolutely love it. They think we bought them a swimming pool. Glad we could finally afford to have it done cash on the barrel head as we've committed to not buying anything else on credit.

Lucas: does the pond freeze up in the winter? It would make a great rink. Out behind my place in the winter, the pond becomes one huge rink. We have skating and hockey going on at the same time. Are you going to build a dock for a rowboat? That would be neat.

It has frozen over, but never enough to get on. That would be amazing! We have some kayaks and they are a lot of fun out there! We need to get the stuff ready to build a dock the next time the water level gets down…

Man Lucas, I'm SO jealous of your pond. I've been wanting to buy an excavator to dig a pond on our property ever since we bought the property 3 years ago. But since buying the property, I've been spending money on tractors, building buildings, etc, etc....But at some point, after I stop hemorrhaging money on other things, I'm going to buy an excavator, dig the pond, and then sell the excavator again, and hopefully dig my pond for a small amount of money.

Watch lanmodo videos, he talks about owner financed properties. They have some properties on there that are like $200 down and $200 a month, just depending on what you're looking for and how big of a property you want! The cheapest I have seen is $100 down and $50 a month but it was only for 1-acre! Landmodo is the name of his channel and the name of the website!
