I’ve ditched my GoPros when DJI action 4 was released. You know you made the right choice when the camera just works as it should, no freezing, crashes, no overheating, etc… plus all the convenience improvements over the GoPro, like magnetic mount, easier to twist thumbscrew, etc…

Can you get a case for filming under water with it like you can for a GoPro. Can you the attach it to handle bars or helmets etc We miss so much because some channels say sorry no video because can’t film in the rain

Being an older gent and just started watching videos on my phone for the last few years, I've heard more about Go-pro and sometimes their niggles. This new unit really sounds quite superior. Todays tech is advancing leaps and bounds each day. An older bloke like myself is lucky to navigate my phone. LOL. 👍👍5🏍🙋‍♂️

That's exactly why I use my old cell phone that has no service. I just remove the data card if I want to transfer videos to my computer. Plus, it's already paid for. 😉 I never post video for the world to see, so it's a perfect fit for me. 😅

7:06 ... picture quality is superb Darcy ... I'm watching on my Lenovo Chromebook with OLED screen on my lap sitting here on the couch at home in Perth, Western Australia ... and that view of you on the Lowrider ST just looks so amazingly realistic.

I always look forward to watching your videos, love the content from your old man/and you really like this video as I'm part of a group of riders who have been looking into cameras and think this one will definitely work for us, but can I just add a quick note when the 2 gentleman stopped and chatted with you regarding the bike 🏍 how pleasant you where great to see even though you where making your video, you still took the time to chat fantastic great to see,

I switched to Action 4 from GoPro for pretty much the same reason you did!

I’ve ditched the GoPro cameras for the Osmo 4 & Mic 2 a while back….Total game changer!

I’m thinking of doing the same. I’m getting fed up wondering if my GoPro is recording footage, and then it’s a gamble if it’s recording audio. All I want is a reliable camera for filming a few rides with mates.

The DJI Osmo Action was on my short list of 2 cameras last year but ended up going for the Insta 360 X3. The DJI looked to have the best quality images but the flexibilty of the 360 for my hobbyist bike videos swayed me in the end. Love the Continental too, I have it in Rocker Red.

Excellent video, thanks! My old GoPro Hero 3+ was not upto the job, and all attempts at motorcycle video using that were unwatchable. Just bought an Action 4, and there is no comparison. The picture is so rock-steady I'm forced to use the word "STUNNING".

Love the DJI Action 4 & Mic 2. Finally gonna get to test them out for my motovlogging setup today & can't wait to see the results!

@@jimbobspov I’ve just placed an order for the DJI action 4 camera today as I’ve got a tour coming up at the end of June. I supported GoPro from the 7, 8, 9 and finally the GoPro 10 which was so unreliable that I gave up filming my rides and saving the memories. After much complaining I eventually received an exchange unit from GoPro but even that has proved unreliable when I recently decided to try use it. I’m hoping the DJI Action 4 is more reliable and will record audio

@@Paulie44 you should have no problem. I’ve had no issues with mine so far. Highly recommend the DJI Mic 2 if you want quality audio.

Can you connect the bluetooth on the camera to you helmet comm unit? For audio?

DJI Osmo Action 4 is a great camera, Bro..I am planning to buy Dji action 3 for vlogging

the last time I made an exhaust video for a motorcycle, I used an Insta 360 for the video and a Zoom H6 for the audio and just synced it in post, the camera could have taken a direct input but I just didn't set it up for that particular shot. the Zoom H6 is 24bit and it can handle much louder audio than most of those wireless audio solutions. I use the H6 mostly for when I go out with a Ghost Hunting group here in Utah, so I had it anyway. You may want to consider the Zoom F3, a 2 channel 32bit recorder that has a much higher (and lower) recording ceiling. I kind of nerd out a bit on video/audio equipment so... take it for what it is :D

My GoPros are glitch pros! Corrupted files, not turning off when turned off, claiming 30%battery then completely dying, etc. they have failed so many times I have very little confidence in any shot I get.

Lost my GoPro in the Namib Desert making my cinematic masterpiece that was guaranteed to raise my YT viewers from 25 to 28 or 30 if I don’t appear and steal good music. The time traveller video will have to appear next year when I use my new DJI Osmo Action 4 -- which arrived today - hence trawling through the reviews

Great review. I’ve been using the GoPro 11. It has been rock solid. But the mounting, battery live, awkward media mod is sometimes too much. I love the idea of connecting the DJI mic wirelessly. Can the Osmo Action 4 connect 2 DJI2 mics? Or does the Bluetooth connection only allow one?

Thanks very much, absolutely those features make it so much more useable. Currently it only supports one connection via Bluetooth so to connect 2 you would need to plug in the DJI mic 2 receiver. Maybe that’ll change in the future 🤔

I'm still on the Hero7 and I probably wont upgrade BUT and it's a big but the GoPro crashes, fails to record, overheats you name it. I started using a cheapo action cam and great for the image but audio isn't good enough. If I was to upgrade I'd not goPro it again... Thanks Darcy!

I bought the cheapo cams to start and your right the video is great audio sucks so I bought action 3 which is my mean filming and audio cam use the cheapo for back view, if you can’t get the action 4 the action 3 is priced right and pretty good, that’s what I use to film my southernboyzryde channel

Excellent review! Thanks a lot, Darcy. I'm considering buying an action camera (it will be my first test with those cams) to use it precisely in my 2009 RE 500 classic. I was watching some videos of the hero 12 and, of course, the DJI action 4. I was slightly afraid of the magnetic mount performance on a motorcycle. I guess now I'm more confident, but, I still ask you: do you fill the magnets sturdy enough to not be an issue in the back of your mind when you'r riding with some trepidation? Thanks again ;)

Glad you liked it! I find the magnetic mounts very sturdy! I have full confidence in them. You just have to make sure you have clipped it in properly. And it’s soooo much quicker to take on and off the mounts compared to the go pro

We’ve had issues with engine vibrations affecting its ability to maintain a level horizon when rigged directly to certain motor vehicles. Have you used it in the horizon balancing mode?

I think you should have compared this to the GPH12, apart from the mag mount I see no benefit over the 12. However I need to try the DJI for myself sometime.

That’s probably because the GoPro failed to work! I’ve got a GoPro and it’s a gamble if it will work, then another gamble if the audio works. It got so bad I shelved the camera for several months and stopped filming my rides.

⁠@@FenTourthe GoPro 10 had major issues too and it was so bad that I received an exchange unit from GoPro when the new 11 was released, but even the exchange unit was unreliable that I eventually gave up using it. Thus the reason I didn’t bother wasting money on a GoPro 11 nor GoPro 12 as I don’t have time to waste reshooting my rides two or three times when I’m out with mates. I want an action camera that works so I can save my memories from tours. On a positive note, just today I decided to get the DJI Action 4 and it will arrive on 10th June - finally no more dealing with GoPro unreliability 🎉🎉🎉

@@FenTour well I’m glad your GoPro is reliable and hope it remains like that for you. My experience has been the complete opposite with lots of wasted footage, hence the reason I’d prefer to have a camera that is reliable.

Does the DJi Mic (first one) still connect to it? Can you turn all the stabalization off?

The first one can connect to it with a physical connection but not wireless, only the DJI mic 2. Yes you can turn the stabilisation off

What attachment would you use to place the mic to just pick up exhaust sound? I'm worried about having the mic secured to the back of my bike and it dropping off.

I’m thinking the same. Have owned several GoPro but the last being the Hero 10 after many, many issues with audio faults, overheating, short battery life and general reliability issues. I’ve had the Insta360 One X2 for several years and use it primarily for snowboarding/skiing. Because the insta360 software is so easy to use, I’m thinking of replacing the GoPro for the insta360 equivalent.

@@Paulie44 it'll be motorbike vlogging mainly. All around Asia, sometimes off road.... General traveling around, food stuff, beaches, boats, fishing 🎣 boxing etc... The one rs is tempting me as theirs one nearby for sale cheap.... It'll be primarily used as a standard action cam but maybe 10-20% 360 stuff... This one comes with both lenses... Dunno if I should pull the trigger... I'm a tech tard and new to it all... So ease of editing / processing is important... What you think.. 🤔 *Crap Game* 🎉

@@Plough78 for vlogging and travelling I’d get the Insta360 X4. You could also use it on a motorbike, but you’d have to set it quite high to give the first person perspective of being helmet mounted. Motovlogging is best performed with a helmet camera, so the viewers get to see what you see.

I have the GoPro Hero 9 too. I haven't had as much trouble with it if any since owning it. But I suppose because I don not use it as often and for long periods of time. I love the interaction with others you add in you videos. 👍

I looked into these two go pro 12 and osmo I bought the go pro 12 and so far it’s brilliant and with the Rode 2. Have no problems with it so far but the attachment with the osmo is better definitely The go pro 12 is easy to use really and set up your own defaults.. love the review tho, one of this best yet 👏👏👏

Absolutely agree that Osmo Action 4 is far superior to any GoPro, period. Other than picture quality. I have a GoPro 8, Osmo Action 3, and Insta360. I'm going to get rid of them all and get the Pocket 3 and Mic 2 along with Action 4. My audio has frustrated me and my viewers since I began vlogging two years ago. PS; love that Royal Enfield. She is a sexy bike. Damn shame that the cafe racer style has never been comfortable for me. How is the Old Man? We miss him!!
