    Yep. As warm as down fill, breathes, and unlike a puffy down jacket, you can bang it around in the woods, wear it in the rain and snow and the wool will keep you warm even if it gets wet as wool keeps its warmth at 80% saturation. You're done with down unless you have a very high water resistant, tough shell. Plus, it wears better after being banged around. Good vid.

    It's pretty amazing pricing. I joke that it was made by kids in the middle east. But yeah, no point in spending 2 grand on something I can get for 350. Stitching's a little sloppy, but again... Is it worth 1650 for nicer stitching?

    @manictiger update, it was way too big, so I stuck it back on eBay and made an extra £40 ,In the end, we found a shop in London that are doing a very close copy of a Irvin and even got the vent holes under the arms ,£320 boy it's heavy ,and you can only wear a t-shirt under it as its to warm lol and they do the ginger wool

    @@crazycressy7986 Nice. Mine's the right size (with multiple layers of clothing, but that's entirely the point). I love it. It's been ridiculously cold in this part of the U.S. lately. Not sure why you'd need vent holes. The whole point of Shearling, is that it lets moisture out, but doesn't let heat out. It's meant for the very cold.

    @manictiger yes they would wear oversized jackets in the bombers ,no need to wear more clothes with mine ,we had -8 last week in the UK, and it was fine with just a t-shirt ,just wish it was a bit longer in the body so it would go past my butt lol ,the original Ervins would have 9 riveted vent holes to let out sweat ,don't forget shearing would still make you sweat under the arms ok wool will still keep you warm when wet ,this is why sailor's wear wool ,only other problem with mine is its got trimmed 10mm shearing and because the wool ends have been cut it itches ,where as the one I sold had full shearing and it was so soft but it was miles to big

    How would you clean it? Presumably not machine washable, perhaps hand wash with saddle soap?

  • @wildforwool3821

    @wildforwool3821

    3 жыл бұрын

    Definitely not machine washable. Because it’s an extreme cold weather coat it doesn’t really get very dirty. The outside leather can be wiped clean and conditioned as needed. The care would be along the lines of the filson tin cloth coat. Any soiled areas can be dried and than brushed off and if needed still, can be spot cleaned with a damp rag. But due to the self cleaning properties of wool I’ve never had to clean the inside and it has never gotten a smell to it. I’m not very familiar with saddle soap but I’m sure it would work just fine on the leather.

    Depending on your budget, and location and willingness to travel. aero leather is in Scotland and they make exact replicas of the sheepskin jackets that they had contracts for in ww2 to your dimensions. I bought a b7 jacket from them just by sending measurements and hoping and the fit is perfect, except maybe the sleeves could be an inch longer for the hug test but that’s on me for not allowing for that. If you are close to them I’m sure you could go to them and have them take your measurements themselves to ensure it’s perfect.
