The whole point of having one or two main characters is that they're the characters you enjoy enough to _not_ get bored with. You can still play other characters for fun. Whether you're looking to play competitively or not, you should be able to balance having fun _and_ winning. No reason to not try to do both, imo.

In my opinion one of the best ways to find a good main is to play as many characters that can have equal or simillar mechanics... You main chrom? Why not trying roy or lucina? You main ike? Why not trying Cloud or corrin? I felt this is one of the ways i used to find mine and it worker pretty well. Playing variety can help you not to get bored to and find your "True" potential with a character sometimes. I changed from being roy main to cloud main, from fox to wolf and so on finding characters that i never know i was really good at them because i just trained solidly with just a few.

I just figured I should add this, but game and watch is really good if you wanna get fancy of stage. I picked him up just for the memes, despite hating him in 4. He’s actually really fun to play in the air, and aerial stuff is my play style in most games. Great video anyway dude!

I couldn’t agree with you more about Yoshi. He’s just a great character to pick up and master quickly. All his moves just feel like their in the perfect spot between heavyweight and light. 6:12 how is greninja considered hard/ technical? If anything he requires a fox level of skill. He has a projectile impossible to react to, a down tilt, nair and dash attack that lead into an easy kill at a lot of percents, very fast movement, is a fast taller, and a good recovery. The only real thing he struggles with is oos options and disadvantage state. If anything, ryu or duck hunt should be there. I main Greninja and yeah on the surface he isn't too complicated but digging just a bit deeper and he has a lot of hard combos and his bait and punish style of play takes some getting used to

What I've learned from playing Smash is that you don't pick your main, your main picks you. Also, imagine being terrible at aerials. This comment was made by the Meta Knight gang.

For Smash Ultimate, I actually have 3 mains, which I know contradicts your advice, but I'm not that tight when it comes to finding a main that I can't be a little more flexible. My mains are Sonic, Captain Falcon, and Daisy.

How did you know I was already playing inkling you hacker

I main DeeDeeDee and always have trouble with projectile spammers, with a lot of characters I can just suck and reflect it, but with characters like pauletana the auto aim is a nightmare, how do I work around it?

*Dedede Your problem is air speed. Dedede has really slow airspeed, so you'll have a hard time getting in when your opponent spams projectiles. You could use your own projectile, since hers has some start and end lag, or try to predict when your opponent is going to use it. If you get a sense for what they're doing, you can shield, roll, and jump your way towards them. Since you have a lot of jumps, you can also easily change where you are in mid air, so, when you see Palutena use an attack, you can still get away from it. Then try to land safely. Prepare to move if they use an up smash.

how to find a main: look at tier lists and pick characters that are mid tier (B tier) or higher, go into training or a normal match and try out the characters moves and see if you like the way the character plays. option 2 pick random and try the character you get. option 3 if you just got the game, each time you unlock a new character, play at least 1 match with them to try them out. the most important thing is to decide what type of character you like, do you like ranged characters with projectiles, or characters with sword or characters with fists, do you like characters with tether grabs or normal grabs, do you like character with high damage charged attacks or quick characters, do you like small and light characters or heavy or medium wight characters, do you like characters with multiple jumps, or characters with attacks that have multiple hits like pit or cloud with his side special, or characters with good aerials or good recovery. just use this to find which types of character youreused to, like some characters have meteor smash or spike attacks, some have sideways recovery and some dont some have slide attacks some have dash attacks that make you muve forward quickly, and so on.

@@Harrinsain I don't know if WiiFit is a good counter to K.Rool but I can say I often enjoy the matchup and in my experience it's about 60-40 WFT. But that might be more my playstyle than her moveset.

It might be a good idea to experiment at first too to see what you like. I thought I was gonna go for the light fast characters like Greninja or sheik, but after playing everyone at least once, I found I like the heavy hard hitters way more than I thought I would

No mention of Wolf? I'd argue he's pretty similar to Fox, but also has similarities to both Young Link and sword characters in terms of learning the fundimentals of the game. For example, he has the best projectile in the game, which is good for forcing the opponent to approach. He also has slightly disjointed hitboxes and a good chunk of his moves have sweet spots and sour spots, which can help with learning proper spacing. AND he has comparable combo ability and pressure to Fox. And unlike Fox he isn't ultimately forced into a rushdown playstyle. Downsides are that he's extremely combo-focused regardless of whether you play him rushdown or more defensively (meaning that you have to learn his combos and followups in order to actually get anywhere with him), he doesn't really have many kill setups and his recovery is among the worst in the series.

You can get kill combos at 35% and beyond consistently with fair, rising down b, fast fall fair, short hop (or full hop depending on percent) fair into side b spike. Plus his fair just straight up gives you time to properly space and combo into side b at almost any percent.

@@zetton1374 I do play wolf. And that combo you described is a stock trade, which you generally don't want to do unless you have a stock lead to begin with. Plus, it's just an overly long version of just doing fair into side B at around 50 to 70%. Besides, you're misconstruing my statement. I said, and I quote, "he doesn't have *_many_* kill setups", not "he doesn't have any kill setups". I really hope you were just not paying attention and just skimmed and that you're not either intentionally trying to start an argument or literally believe that "many" is the same as "any" in this context. Sure, Wolf has _a_ kill setup. In fact, he has two - Fair/Down-Throw into Side-B and Fair into Bair. But two isn't very many, and they have a relatively small percentage window - if the opponent reaches too high of a percent (easy to do since Wolf's combo game is insane), you basically have to either fish or keep playing the combo game until your combo tools become kill moves.

I do agree with this series, a main is needed in order to do well in this game. I remember when I first played Pacman I fell in love with the goofy style of him, imma say it "IT JUST MAKES MY NIPPLES TINGLE" jk i don't have a Pacman fetish but up until recently I have "pockets" which just didn't work in local tournaments. then I recently dropped them all and devoted my time to labbing and practicing anything I don't usually see a place do. I see a lot of Pacman is trying to trap and zone which is ok to an extent but without any good combo game practice, Pacman just can't d anything so I decided to go a very off meta style, AERIAL GAME. Pacman has an amazing real game that no one is realizing, his down air can kill as well as his back and up air. his Nair is amazing for starting or breaking combos, and his forward air is like a baby smash 4 shieks forward air, it is an odd character, but I love him and recently won a small local tournament by beating the best 3 in the tournament until I came along being a Pichu, Ridley, and chrom main. those 3 have had way more practice than yours truly but I was able to destroy them since where you expect an annoying and not fun Pacman, I using aireal game completely surprised and destroyed their expectations and played very clutch. and i am goona say it.. yoshi is fun to watch and play against for me.

I don't know why people think Shulk is hard. Even without Arts usage, he's a good, fundamentals-based fighter and literally the only bad thing about him is that most of his moves have a little bit more startup than usual.

Radiant Beach Shulk because arts allow you to control the pace of the game and change your neutral to what suits the situation. Yes shulk is a good character fundamentally, but to really make an impact competitively you need to be good at using arts... Also my secondary is olamar
