Why You Can’t Handle JPTR FX

Музыка

This week we talk with pedal-maker extraordinaire Chris Jupiter (founder and owner of JPTR FX) who explains that "music is about enjoying cool things, not the right things." We take a walk through the JPTR FX pedal line, including the Fernweh Delay, Warlow Fuzz and Jive Distortion, which are 100% as cool as they sound.

These jams took me back to SF in the 80's and 90's. Different pedals brought back Bauhaus playing Bela Lugosi's Dead at Berkeley Square, Vudi's guitar in American Music Club's more chaotic songs of existential crisis, and Ken Kearney in Assassins of God songs like I Am My Disease. The stories of childhood trauma just added to the demented fun. Tanks for the memories!

Great company. I ordered a bunch of stuff from them and something got lost along the way. Without getting into details, they took care of me in a situation where a lot of businesses would have passed the buck to the shipper and left things in the kind of stalemate where neither party is willing to step up and compensate for the fact the customer paid for something and it never arrived. Despite the fact this all happened in the holiday rush last year, they had it sorted out on the next production run of that model. Can't speak highly enough of this team and the stuff they are doing.

I can’t listen to a Kiss song without thinking about that, but when I hear The Bee Gees I just remember my grandma. All I have left to remember her by is my original pressing vinyl Saturday Night Fever, it was all I wanted from her estate. That terrible time, really makes me smile when I hear Jive Talkin’, that kid don’t know shit about music. I have both. Great pedals, even on bass due to the warmth - so is the Fernweh honestly. I also ended up ordering the ROYBGIV for no other reason than why not. There's a theremin next door that needs a power supply, and I have to wonder what kind of mad soundscapes 2 people could get with one playing and the other just messing with all the switches and controls.

Great episode! My favorite pedal and jams were the delay pedal Josh couldn't pronounce but was real cool. Also, my dark childhood story is one time my mom came home from a long day of work, my brother and I were playing in the yard, and she revved the engine and raced us up the driveway and she accidentally ran over the family cocker spaniel.

Good to see Chris's pedals on your Channel. 😎😎😎

I really enjoyed this episode, and i particularly appreciate the way you edited the transcriptions of the phone call, eliminating the "like"s. A for Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Scar, I wasn't sure if it was that song or "Bah, Bah, Blacksheep", and that's always been a problem for me, especailly when asking for wool and I'm given an astronomical position. I won't sleep tonight. Oh, nearly forgot the Death Saw! It's quite really very amazing how one single man can take everything that's good about Sweden and put it in a tiny pedal. He should be awarded the Nobel prize for Incrustation.

It was the only C I got in college. It ruined my 4.0. So I only graduated Magna Cum Louder (sic) instead of Summa with two Bachelors degrees. *fake cry then eats chocolate* But I didn't have any student loans ...then... And come to think of it I retook it and got an A as an adult... My favorite Manchester album is either "Mean Everything To Nothing" or "I'm Like a Virgin Losing a Child." They are so raw but so incredibly produced and full sounding. It is a dichotomy that Manchester has perfected. I was lucky to see them live multiple times around the release of these albums with Brand New and Kevin Devine. They are certainly better live than on any of their records and it is a literal gut punch to see them in person. Josh nailed it when describing Andy's vocals and songwriting. I actually have tickets to see them with Foxing in January! :)
