This is so true, I've wrestled for 6 years and i just started bjj 6 months ago and I'm already rolling with purple belts. Wrestling gives you the positional awareness and intensity that bjj doesnt.

Same here with me, wrestled from 8-18 and I've been in bjj for about 7 months. First night I was rolling with blue an purple belts, I got smashed, but gave a good account for myself. Loving my journey...
My sons wrestled one reason wrestlers do well is a great farming system from grade school alway to the Olympic and everything in between. Bjj does have anything like that. If bjj could become a school sport all the way to Olympics it would make a huge jump forward.
Something with boxing too As a wrestler I was moving to quick, focus, perfection and aggressive in a boxing gym. The coach is looking at me interested.
Wrestlers start in elementary school and if they stick with it through college that is thousands of hours of mat time

Because BJJ users are so laid back from white to black belt. Train a wrestler for 2 weeks in bjj he will demolish a blue belt.

No not really. I’m a wrestler but you gotta remember the wrestler would still be new to bjj so they would have a good base but lack Finishes and still wouldn’t feel comfortable on their backs.

IMO they Both Go Hand and Hand I Was Doing BJJ for a Year when I tried out for Wrestling my Freshmen Year and Madd Varsity and Was Hanging in with the Guys my Weight Easily (I also done a lot of BJJ competitions) even the Senior Wrestlers respected me for Being able to ride legs and do all the Weird stuff Lol , And in competitions for BJJ after learning wrestling I got the take down 98% of the time. They’re both really amazing Arts.
Great breakdown. Thank you for sharing your insights.

Oh, absolutely 💯 , wrestling is very effective
As a wrestler 10years+ with Greco Roman I can say we were trained to beat our opponents by being, explosive, fast, aggressive and power, with exceptional balance ..advanced jui jitsu can beat a wrestler..learn jui jitsu the way it is supposed to be learned...patience, leverage and grace..if you have a wrestler you are struggling with ..play your BJJ game..don't try to out wrestle him..lol..survive the onslaught and then take advantage..energy conservation..jui jitsu is very tactful...I am a new student .but it has a much more valuable purpose than wrestling(specifically No Gi)

I dont know man wrestling dominates over everything and is a great base to have. Ben askren Dominated One championship with his wrestling and went on to become undefeated... Until he met Jorge Mastival...oh... OH DEAR GOD! :( I'm scared to walk into a whole foods store now. lol! (@3:10 Helpless?)
