Manfrotto video heads = Ford, Sachtler video heads = Ferrari. 500ah head on flowtech 75 tripod = Ferrari wheels on a Ford.

Those manfrotto heads are complete trash. Every 500ah head I've used that's more than a year old just feels awful to shoot on and like it's aged 20 years already.

So Sachler is overpriced, unreliable and breaks down quickly? I think you mean Toyota.

When you spent 5-10k on a camera that last 3-5 years, spending 2k on a tripod that lasts 10-20 years is a very good deal.

Best legs ever. Can never go back to individual knobs ever. So slow and cumbersome compared to this. Best piece of gear we've bought in decades. Seriously. Game changer.

These sticks close up once their max weight is reached and the camera falls. No professional would use flotech, its for consumers. Losers. You cant put an arri on this.

Great video. You state not as rigid as others, do you have a favourite 'more rigid' type?

Need to seriously look at one, my new camera rig is heavier than ever and it’s not always convenient to take the camera off to adjust a traditional tripod, which is awkward to adjust when the camera is attached.

I went with Manfrotto Carbon Fiber 645 legs and Manfrotto Nitrotech 608 Fluid Video Head. It’s got very similar features but it was $1200. I was looking at the sachtler, but didn’t quite have enough.

Go with what you can afford. But the Manfrotto in a couple of years not going to hold up unless you baby it to hell.

The Nitrotech is horrible, there is pretty much zero dampening. As a result, they should call it a photography tripod. Returned mine and got a sachtler, zero regrets. Feels as smooth as my cartoni, if not smoother.

I found a used aluminum Lazer level tripod at a thrift store and I can clamp my Bogen super clamp onto the base plate to hold a DSLR camera or large format or view camera.

$2,000 is exspensive for a tripod? Look up Oconnor, or some 200k vintens.

Manfrotto Nitrotech head is horrible, it had ZERO dampening. Don't trust them as a company anymore with what they're charging compared to what you get. They should call it a photography tripod honestly. Had to return mine and got an entire sachtler setup. The dampening on that one is amazing and well worth it for a tripod. You'll have it for many many years, you'll actually be able to pan/tilt with it smoothly (which is a big part of owning a tripod) and it's ergonomics are amazing. It's steep for the price but buy once, cry once. I'd prioritize a sachtler, miller or cartoni head then buy cheaper legs. Manfrottos new legs are not bad, I'll give them that. I like the weight and their quick releases latches.. but avoid those tripod heads at all costs.
