Used FitNotes for almost a decade on Android until switching to iPhone last year. Tried some of the popular iOS ones and they all made me miss Android FitNotes until I finally found one called "FitNotes 2". It's a different developer, but he was also a former Android user who missed FitNotes on iOS so made essentially a clone using more native iOS UX. Was able to import my old FitNotes data and it now has essentially all of the features of Android FitNotes, was a seamless 1:1 transition. Definitely would recommend for anyone on iOS. Edit: Not free though, pretty steep one-time fee to unlock, but better than forcing subscription. Android FitNotes definitely better there. FitNotes was one of the draws keeping me on Android, so I was just happy something existed to make the iOS transition easier

But you have to pay to really use it right? After like 10 workouts it locks you out I believe.

@@DJcs187 Ah true, I've been a TestFlight beta user which waives that, but should have noted. It is nice at least that there is a one-time payment unlock forever option to avoid neverending monthly fees, but that price is pretty steep for new users. Costly to be an iPhone user I guess, but given it's one of my most consistently used apps and I derive a ton of value, the one-time fee averaged out over every day of use would go down to pennies per use pretty quickly

@@mikezard123 Yeah, I have one trainee who doesn't use Android and she tried that, but after getting locked out she just stopped tracking via app and we just do it manually through excel and screenshots/notes. Which is fine, but the graphs, highscore system, crossing of finished sets of Fit Notes are just so great.

I'm also using the IOS version and paying something like €16 per year for it. Sucks that I have to pay for something that's free & better on Android but it is what it is. Wasn't a totally seamless transition for me but I've gotten used to it by now. The fact that I could import data from Android is great, kept all my logs from 2017 until today.

@@interloop The reason iOS devs have to charge more than Android devs is because Apple charges you $99 a year just to keep your app on the store.
You're inspiring me to start developping this perfect app ! I've been wondering about what to do as a side project for a while and I'm personally using spreadsheet for tracking lol
i’ve been using strong for years, but developer has stopped supporting it. fitnotes is now available in ios for sub or one time payment. i may switch over if i can be sold on it
100% Every year or so I explore wonder if someone finally came up with a fitnotes successor and everything out there still sucks. Its actually amazing that no one has just taken what fitnotes does and built on it for all the fringe stuff it doesn't track.

totally. I think its just excessive focus on money honestly - which again, is totally fine to want to make money, but it blurrs peoples judgement. so instead of thinking about what a lifter would actually want/need, they think about how they can include more and more fancy bells and whistles that can justify charging a certain amount. its like me saying, "My coaching is X dollars, and it includes sending a picture of my penis. Oh, doing a zoom-call to talk things over? Thats not included, why would it be?"
I love your passion in this video!
Hey, I am currently a computer science student, and creating a better fitnotes for android has been one of the side projects I've considered. I have the same criticisms of most of the other fitness apps on the market and came to the conclusion that fitnotes is the only app other than pen and paper or spreadsheets for serious lifters. You definitely would one of the first people I would let beta test when I get working on it.
I just realized that "SSD Abel" is a solid state drive. Abel, you're a computer component!? I knew something was off! You're a cybernetic being! Look I don't discriminate, it's all good. Just tell me, cats are still gods over all mankind / cybernetic mankind and the universe right? They better be😼
strengthlog is in my opinion the best Android app for advanced lifter. I can even track information like RIR/RPE, failure, superset, dropsets, warmup set,, etc. There are really a lot of available features. The app have frequent updates. It's developed by people who really seem to understand what's important in this kind of app for lifters. Unfortunately, you need to pay a monthly/yearly subscription, but for the features you get, it's reasonable. I've been using it for 5 months, really happy with it.
I use Fitnotes on iOS and it’s great, but there’s one feature I wish it had. I want to see an estimated 1rm automatically calculated and a previous best shown on the screen when plugging in my sets and reps for the day. Had it on a now defunct app and can’t find on any others. Super handy to know at a glance what I need to do to know I got stronger without navigating to a different screen
iOS user here. I was able to download footnotes and gravitas but they were both super tacky. I’m using HeavySet and very satisfied. It lets me track over time, it tracks sets, let’s me configure custom exercises and volume groups, and even lets me assume multiple volume groups to the same exercise. Don’t ask me whether it’s available for android. Maybe worth switching to iOS ;)
Fitnotes is so damn easy and ridiculously effective (to bring to completion the simple task... of tracking)

definitely, its a manna from heaven...well, from playstore:)
The only lifting apps I've ever used is Samsung health, to record sleep, weight, heart rate and my cardio sessions (I imput the distance taveled and time). As well as strava when I rode bikes before getting hit by that car in late 2017. Otherwise I took a friends advice to use google docs for my training and food journals. As it backs up online, so it's hard to lose.
Is the new RP app any good? Couldn't be arsed downloading the beta.

Gravitus is what I use. It’s great. Tons of nuance stuff to track and you can run all kinds of graphs to show progression on lifts over time

Sadly it is not available on Android.
Honestly, FitNotes is one of the reasons I will not leave Android. I even paid a one time fee, like €5 maybe, don't remember, to become a "supporter" . Not because of any specific functionality but just because I wanted to give back for the many years of great use I got out of the app.

same thing, I paid 100 a few years ago and will do it here and there again. And yea similar feelings about the android&firnotes connection
Idk I like Hevy app. I think it can do almost everything you want, except you need to start/stop workouts and % for muscle groups. I think most people are using a template workout so it makes sense to check off the activity. If you're doing it on the fly as an advanced lifter it's maybe not going to work as well and be more finicky.. As far as the timer, who cares? Just ignore it. The social side is strong on Hevy (sharing and seeing other people's workouts) and the analytics are getting better. Desktop interface is good too.
STRONG is an awesome app tbh on iPhone
The only app I used for the last 5 years of training is Progression (android).
what about Dr Mike RP hypertrophy app

I use a google spreadsheet to track. I think the main point to get across is to make sure you ARE TRACKING your workouts! That being said I train at home, so it’s easy enough for me.

definitely man, tracking ftw!
So RP just released their new hypertrophy app that actually tracks your workouts, recommend exercises, handles the progression for you and gathers your feedback to recommend how to manage your fatigue. It's a pretty lofty goal, but I'm interested to see how it works in real life. Dr. Mike has been using it and working with tech to improve the experience.

Fitnotes is one of the best apps I've ever used. I've had it since I started lifting five years ago. Best money I've ever spent. I would only change one or two things about it. My hats are off to the developers-that's how you make an Android app!

I tried it now, I didn't like it. Everything I don't want more or less (inconvenient use, insisting on the silly timer, and not least, offering too little before it asks for money)
Never used any kind of training tracker, never even written, only what’s in my head. Still no desire to track 10+ years into lifting, just lift hard with purpose, recover even harder, maintain consistency and trust the process. I like to keep it simple, and it is an effective low stress strategy that has served me well.
Honestly RepCount is pretty good on every aspect

If you would like to try something new, I've just launched GymPlans (only on android). I tried to make it as simple and intuitive as possible. I actually use it for my workouts, if you try it, let me know what you think.
I use a small notebook to write down what I did. Afterwards I log them in weightxreps (usually the website, but they do have an app). Saves me from having to use my phone during my training. And if I want to see what I did last week I just have to scroll back a few pages.
