Why Won't SMECO Allow US Flags on Utility Poles?!?
Our local utility company, SMECO, will no longer allow us to hang the US flag on their utility poles. We can however put them on the verizon telephone poles. Southern Maryland, USA

Thank you for another interesting and enjoyable video. I have never heard of Semco. The poles are private property Donnie so it should be their decision without having to give reasons. We here in Ireland had our flag hijacked by terrosts and the result was for 40 or so years anyone who displayed one was making a politicial statement, so very few did. It is changing now. Dont let your flag become associated with any politicial cause, it is all citizens and very attractive.

I didn't think our flag was political but some are making it that way. Thx for watching!
I think it is interesting that telephone poles still even exist! Somehow I thought that all fiber optic lines were underground now.

Good video.

May have something to do with flags being in the way of linemen
👀🙄🐾👍 Get the Donald on your side
Next you'll have the county police telling you that'll it distracts drivers and thats why they are unsafe. Because we need the government to save us all. 🤦

OMG so true. I've always said that I don't need the government to save me from me, especially when it comes to seat belts.

FArmer the poles actually are on county property and most people dont even realize theres a certain set back from the paved road to the property line that belongs to the county and hydro poles phone poles underground boxes or vaults are all located on the counties property . it could be a question of insurance companys smeco has one company the county has another the phone has another . smeco their lines are 7200 volts live each phase on the pole phone poles use low voltage . if verizon say its fine great but smeco do have the legal right to deny permission because linemen still do climb poles even if they have a bucket truck the other reason could also be it hampers the reclosing and refusing of switches and breakers because if a flags on the pole and the lineman needs to remove and refuse a breaker his hotstick has to go a certian way even to reclose it from the ground he has to have a clear area incase the fuse blows . linemen dont always use buckets they do stand on the ground and closing in a breaker you much prefer not standing in a ditch full of water or in pitchblack not seeing the right hole . i think its more of a safety concern for smeco employees . if a truck pulls up to work on the pole urgently and a flags hanging the truck then has to block traffic which means bringing out traffic control and its costly .
Your Health Department *lady* has a friend over at the electric company and is still pissy at you, Donnie.

Have Frogger set the ladder up at least of an angle and he'll be more comfortable climbing it.

Sounds to me like the Coop is operating like our government. Plenty of reasons to not do something, but no effort to come up with some solutions. Poor member relations. Seems to me that they could send a service man in a small bucket to put them up, probably take them longer to get there than to do the job. Sorry member relations.
I worked for a public electrical utility for 20 yrs while my father and I farmed and trucked. After 911 everything changed. They clamped down on everything. Terrorism . Nobody move, nobody gets hurt ... I retired at 50 to get the hell out of the new work environment...

My assumption is yes but I can't be for certain. Are the flags still hanging there?
Someone must of sued the power company in the past their insurance company probably told them not to the could get sued in a flag falls onto a vehicle and calls damage causing them to get sued.
A shame the power company doesn't like the American flag

I’m only guessing but it’s probably the “if we let you put up flags we’ll have to let everyone put their flags up as well” reason.
