I wish I saw this video a few months ago. I have an 04 chevy with a duramax that a squirrel built a nest in. Popped the hood and there was a condo complex under there. It chewed all but two wires in the main harness from the fuse box to the engine and transmission. I ordered a good harness on ebay so I could just replace it instead of splicing a bunch of wires. No matter what I tried, I could not unplug the connector at the range sensor on the transmission. I stopped before I damaged it and ended up cutting the salvage harness and splicing the main engine connector pigtail to the damaged harness. At the time I did a lot of research to see if anyone else had this issue unplugging the range sensor and this is the first time hearing of GM gluing the connector in. That explains a lot and I thank you. Keep the videos coming.

In Australia Holden also used that hot melt glue on that same connector in 2000 in my dads Holden VX Commodore which runs the Holdens ECOTEC version of the 3.8 litre Buick L36 V6 engine & 4L60E automatic transmission, maybe because they're a division of General Motors. When he bolted a 2004 model Holden VY Commodore powertrain from that model of Holden Commodore in it never had the connector glued into the neutral safety switch !

You did a great job on that wire repair work! Its really really really difficult finding a mechanic who care to do quality work instead of slapping something together to increase output. I cant even get quality service at the dealership. Thats why I do my own work because I spend wayyyyyy too much money trying to get a simple diagnosis. Everyone loves to just throw parts at the problem instead of doing a proper diagnostic.

I do just about all my own work on my cars. I had never heard of a neutral safety switch. I spent over 500 dollars paying different so called mechanics to come diagnose my van and most of them said it was my starter. I had never had any problems starting it before so I incisted that it wasnt the starter. The starter is the original starter and it is rusty but it has always been souper strong! But by the time I got to 500 i started breaking down and doing what they said and I broke down and bought a new starter. I bench tested the old starter and it still work. and I bench tested the new starter and it worked as well. Since I had already went ahead and bought it I installed the new starter. Still nothing!!! I saw on the internet that someone said that the neutral safty switch could cause this issue. My van had been sitting for over a year with this problem. I got inside and wiggled the gear shifter a little and tried to start it and it literally started right up with no issues. Have not had an issue with it starting since. That is some bullshit! Can someone tell me whats the problem with starting the car in neutral??? I would think you would want to start in neutral more than in gear. I specifically remember having a car shut off on me on the highway and I threw it into neutral, restarted it and put it back in drive and kept on my way with no problem.

Vehicles are supposed to start in park & neutral only. It's Mrs Wrenching. If you need help fixing a vehicle go on Facebook, Wrenching With Kenny. Add info about your vehicle; year, make, model, codes that it is throwing (or has stored) & what you have done to fix the vehicle. We have a sister group called Backyard Mechanics on Facebook. It is a closed group, be sure to answer the questions to join. You just need help to point you in the right direction to fix your vehicle. There are a bunch of sarcastic Mechanics that can help. Thanks for watching! Meg

So, after a lengthy investigation into the problem, I decided it was between the key and the box so I eventually ended up under my seat at the air bag module. I removed the seat and pealed back the carpet and "damn" is the only word that describes it well. Looked like a battery exploded under there. Unplugged it, hit the key and BAM, she came on back to life.

@@layt6342 I’m still stumped on what could be going on with my 95 sonoma, I swore it was my fuel pump was having the same problem with gauges changed out the pump and battery, after one night it had just turned off on me while running. I thought it was because I had hit my knee on this area right under the wheel right below the key. But I’m just guessing it’s an electrical issue at this point

@@Filthykid I had a Ford fusion that I had a fuse box put in for 1000 dollars and all kinds of other shit and then the ford place wanted like 1500 for catalytic converter replacement. I still don't know why 8n the hell catalytic converters would have anything to do with a short but I said no thanks. Anyway one day when it was running I had leaned under the hood and it shut off and I noticed I touched the fuse box. All it ended up being was where the wire from the battery bolted up to the fuse box was loose. The damn Ford place had to have known because the mechanic that put the box in stripped the nut before it ever got tight. Fuckin crooks if not that then it could be a bad ground wire I believe there's about 7 on that truck. It could easily be one of those. But in my case I just had to find the airbag control module which was under my driver seat and 7nhook it. Should replace it but funds are low so. They also put them under the console on some trucks and I'm sure anywhere that could be a hiding spot in some vehicles. Hope that helps you man but I will say my truck never went dead while it was running it just wouldn't crank sometimes after I killed it but my car would when it had a bad hot wire to the fuse box

We bought that from an insurance auction . We bought it basically for the engine . We have a GMC terrain with a blown motor and this fit the bill . The wreck only has 26K on the odometer. The other Terrain is mint and only has 110K on it , but the owner decided that the oil didn't need to be checked even though it was 10K overdue . They ran it dry and the motor blew up . So we're doing a motor swap soon

Mr. Do it yourself isn't very observant. The worn through wiring and the horrific tow in on the front end are things Stevie Wonder would have found. I used to see similar stuff on customers cars. The guy that just did a tune up did not notice the rock hard, cracked spark plug wires, the air filter housing full of engine oil or the heavily corroded ignition coil connections. "It still runs shitty." Good job!

I'm sure it seems that way to you, but in your line of work it'd be a little odd to get anyone coming in that knew what they were doing when they did the repair. By that I mean it appears to you like do it yourselfers are always coming in for you to fix their work. But that perception is skewed because of statistical bias.
