It's pretty dumb that Nvidia gave reviewers the driver's before board partners.

I think most people would rather have a perfectly stable card at 120fps then slightly unstable at 125fps.

My brand new rtx 3080 card just got faulty when i was rendering in blender with optix denoiser enabled and this has happened to me twice and i really don't know what is causing this. Later when i touched the card it was really hot and after that my system won't detect card.

Should not have crashes anymore. But they do. I keep getting TDR crashes. Today i modified the GPU bios on my rtx 3080 eagle. I had FA0 bios on it but i nvflashed an f3 one. Hopefully this will help

Is there any reliable source that shows that undevolting the GPU reduces the size of transient spikes? I can't find reliable information about it, only user comments.

One questions: I'm about to buy a RTX 3080, should I check the capacitors if they are high quality and the more expensive ones? Or should I go with any RTX 3080?

If you have to ask that then you probably don't overclock and if you don't overclock then no any should work fine now after the driver fix.

on my gtx660 i modded the bios to increase the tpd from 144 to 150 can go to 170 TDP

That's the reason. Took me long time to find it out. Changed my msi Afterbuurner Curve on the TUF 3080ti and no crashed anymore. Thanks

@@cjs333 what fixed it for me was forcing Pcie gen 3 as opposed to gen 4 (automatic) as my riser cable was only gen 3 as wel as my m.2 pcie drives. Took me a long time to figure it out.

You don't even know how this little thing you mentioned changed my life. I had a vision of disassembling the entire custom loop and looking for a problem 1 by 1 part of my PC. My riser is from 2018 and it's 3.0, but MB automatically set on 4.0 pcie. Had to set 3.0 on MB, and done. Man thinks he knows everything, and it turns out he knows nothing. Thank you!!!

greetings from China sir, my rtx3090 aorus xtreme (CPU: 5900x; MOBO: Aorus b550 master; PSU: seasonic 1000w titanium) crashes when playing GTA or PUBG (black screen + gpu fan full blast) but the pc still runs, I can still hear the game from the speaker. Is this the same crash that you are explaining here? should I return the card or is this some sort of fixable issue (this is really frustrating because I know for sure if I return it I won't be able to get another one for some time) great video btw, very well researched and explained, instant sub.

@@cjs333 I RMAed the card, and since then the issue occured just once. btw I swapped the MOBO because of another bluetooth issue, and also reinstalled windows etc. so I'm not sure which step fixed the problem.

I still get dev error 5759 when playing warzone usually within first couple of minutes, everything up to date, latest drivers etc, any ideas?

Check setting in your nvidia settings app. I had mine set for ovedclokcing my 2070 super and forgot to set them back to default. So my 3080 fe was trying to over clock

I have been struggling with my 3090 fe with freezes and pc reboot when playing war zone and thinking of lowering the power Temps first if that doesn't work then lower temp limit would be next. To it seems like an safety issue from over heating. I haven't tried it yet as I just came to this conclusion thanks to this video. Have you found a work around for it?

@@dandel2226 only way I can get it not to crash is lower the textures from high to normal, i have a 3440x1440 monitor so I then push up the rendering res to 150% to improve the image

@@DanRandyB0T I tried that, I have everything on low or disabled but looks horrible so I have to change to bordered windows and it looks amazing but still crashes. I'll be lowering the Temps on msi afterburner and it should work, if it does work I'll start moving things up on the graphic settings next

After upgraded my 750W psu, my Asus TUF 3090 no longer crashed while in games. I was lucky to snatch a 1200W Thermaltake psu on discount. This beast is really a power hungry card. So check your power usage as well.

@@SorasioM I agree. That's exactly why Jay should not have overstepped his bounds and got into engineer speak. Turns out he was wrong and persuaded a lot of his followers because they trust him. Nothing wrong with being wrong, but when you're wrong and you're not coming from an area of basic electrical engineering knowledge about an engineering subject, well that just compounds things. That's why Nvidia was not happy with him making the video and Hardware Unboxed called him out for jumping the gun. I think he learned from it as we all learn from mistakes.

Unfortunately it was never fixed. My evga rtx3090 ftw3 ultra just bricked last night. Was playing some COD at factory clock speeds and my display went black and I heard a “pop” sound from the gpu. I was pretty certain it was the gpu since I had the cover off the case and it was sitting about 2 feet from my head. The gpu fans immediately shut off and one red led is now all I get from the $2000 paper weight. Contacting EVGA today.

@@OTechnology I received my replacement card through the RMA process and also installed the hybrid cooler on it. And….still having games crash to desktop. Through troubleshooting ive been able to conclude that these cards are just not stable at their factory OC settings. The only way I can play without crashes is to raise the voltage and power limits all the way and then put a cap on my in game FPS. For example, halo infinite runs anywhere from 140fps to 240fps at 1440p on my rig and I’ll have random crashes to desktop. If I simply cap the FPS to 150 or so I don’t get any crashes whatsoever. It’s really unacceptable, but I don’t see anyone fixing it any time soon. I paid a ton of money for the best card I could get my hands on and can’t even use it as it was intended. It’s sort of like buying a Ferrari and installing Ford Fiesta wheels on it. Sure you can try and drive it to its top speed, but eventually it’s going to have a blowout! Very disappointed…

Maybe i got an earlier built card, cause there have been more driver updates that should have fixed everything, but my 3080 Gigabyte Vision is driving me crazy for 2 weeks already. Random screen blackouts, full system crashes with restarts and not to mention "Video scheduler internal error" BSODs. Tried undervolting my card from 1.1V to 1 as some have suggested - no bueno. Even noticed that using xmp to use the ram at 3600MHz makes the system even more unstable, even got the system to randomly reboot while sitting in the bios, though my ram is supposed to be running at 3600, not 2133. Been troubleshooting for two weeks and seeing it as a dead cause. Probably the card is faulty and i suppose there's nothing i can do....

It was never a driver issue. They are just using the driver as a band aid to fix it for the cards that they let be made poorly and not be tested.

These things won't even make it a full life cycle either, they're trying to make them disposal now, just like mobile phones. It's extremely dishonest behaviour. So I'd say 3 years before built in redundancy kicks in with a driver update, just like apple now. This forces the upgrade pathway undeniably into future as well. R.I.P second hand market soon.

Then you're screwed. Just kidding, I mean overclocking is always a luck of the draw just hope you get a good chip, but technically cards like the TUF and Founder's has a lot more potential due to much better VRM components and a much higher power limit.

iv got a 3090 ti that crashes about 30 secs into destiny and arma 3 but works fine on like subNautica. pc doesnt shut down but the game crashes about 30 secs into them.

Thanks, great explanation! Just ordered the Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity knowing it has the bad (or less good) SP-CAP instead of better MLCC. For the price/performance (cheaper than FE and others) I am willing to see how it performs. Maybe in the future change all 6 to MLCC like der8auer did (kzread.info/dash/bejne/p5hqsNSbes_Sqs4.html) but the gain is very small. In the end I might be selling or returning the 3090 if the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT are available.

This needs to be revised. I am on my 3rd Gigabyte RTX 3080 in two months and one rog strix RTX 3080. All problems. All retuned. I am now waiting on a evga. My issue now is I can get the card past 50% there is nothing else to update. Nothing else to install, reinstall. I've ran ddu. I've reinstalled windows, the bios has been updated on the mobo. Etc. I have a 3070, that has zero troubles. Runs top. But my 3080's have so many problems. I even got a new pc after the second 3080. Still doesn't work..

I had an RTX 3090 gigabyte I played killing floor 2 Was playing 1440p 250 FPS and. Went to switch to Destiny 2 it crashes And then it crashes the desktop a lot after that and then I return my graphics card back I’ve got my refund back so I’m Buyer Rtx 2060 super for now i hop they are making Rtx 3080 ti

So is it safe now to buy a 3080? They won’t crash?

Nvidia choose old 8nm Samsung node. Imo this is why 3xxx were over hyped. If was on TSMC, cards would been better and prob had better performace. Why else would Nvidia run back to TSCM in 2021? Lol Samsung use more power imo. Even Jim from AdoredTV has also said. Was Nvidia worse choice. To go with Samsung. I do agree they rushed to Market. They should have the AIB partners more time, Nvidia should have know the public/gamers would find issue.

@@OTechnology Ya I do understand that. Before RTX 3xxx launched. Here Canada a week before. 2080Ti were still selling for $1649.99 then quickly went out stock here in Canadian. I actually just found my issue! Not sure if it would help anyone else out with the same issue of every game crashing, tearing with lag spikes/hitching and total FPS loss Nvidia Automatically connects any G sync or "G sync compatible" monitors straight to G sync. For days I was getting great benchmarks. But COULD NOT get a game to play on low settings using my 3090fe . Furiously changing settings back and forth ( latency on/off, overclocking/underclocking, Drivers [EVERYTHING]) UNTIL I decided to put everything to the same settings I would have if I would still be using my 5700XT.. nothing. Then boom.. Last option I never checked on or off. G SYNC. Disconnected it from my "G sync compatible" Acer FX250Q 240hz monitor and all the hitching/spikes/crashes/FPS Loss is gone! (Also make sure Bios is updated, with Ram profile created) Twitch.tv/DabTakr

The cards were fine. Evga changed their pcb on the high end cars because they clock higher then for example a gigabyte rtx 3080 gaming oc. The asus TuF has all the mlcc caps and peformance the same like the gigabyte card so all this drama was just for views 🤦‍♂️ Even my gaming oc cards overclocks better then my friends asus TuF. I knew the gigabyte oc/eagle were not high end models so i didnt expect them to put high end stuff on the pcb. Now having that said, The aorus cards have all mlcc, why? Because they have to clock higher then the lower end cards its so simple. Funny thing is that everyone were cancelling their rtx cards that had 'cheap' caps so i got mine pretty early 💁‍♂️ Edit: I have to agree that it was pretty stupid to give drivers to reviewers first instead of board partners 🥴 Oh well.. Nvidia 😁

3080 is still a ripoff in my opinion.
