Why we train Fa Jin in Yang Taiji Quan?

Спорт

Training to Fa-Jin is a process to increase the internal power. We can apply this power to any type of technique, not only pushing people.
Sorry for my poor English in the video.

Sure, it is great he is making the effort to speak English, but unless you already know what he is talking about it is hardly perfectly understandable. Some better subtitles would be a big improvement.

This is great thank you so much. I have had so many students come through my classes that are completely confused about "fa jin". I usually just tell them to spend more time training and less time talking. But, every now and then i will explain what is jin and what is release. Very simple. And then they don't believe me hahaha! So back to training. Now i can just have them watch your videos on the KZread. You have made a few others too that explain some Taiji topics that are very good. I think probably the I've seen anywhere on the Internet.

A very post. Thank you for taking the time to talk fundamentals of Fa Jin. It has been shared with me that a person trying to get a sense of Fa Jin is that it is like a sneeze (the spontaneity of the release of the exercise.) It is a hard concept to grasp if you have never experienced it, and doubly hard to explain. When you used the term "sun" (how that is the correct spelling, knew this video was well worth watching.

Also, am I trying to *up-root and release* using Ti Fang [when I use Hua-Jin or Na-Jin], so I can then use Fa-Jin to *push* him?

When your body is pushed past its center... you have two options: 1) Allow yourself to fall and crash to the floor OR 2) Quickly pull your feet back underneath your body, to prevent you from falling. The process of pulling your feet back under you, looks like you are Jumping. That said... Fajin is a LOT of Force. Its your entire body mass energy, being concentrated into a very short time-unit... You might know what its like to get hit by a baseball... and that ball barely weighs anything. Now imagine a bowling ball, being thrown at speed, into you... and realize that they tend to only be around 20 lbs. I weight 200 lbs. ...And I can get all of that mass moving, within a fraction of a second timeframe. Remember, its not like Firehose... with energy Gradually being released over time. Its ALL of the Energy, dropped INSTANTLY.. similar to a Grenade going off (which is why they call it Explosive Power). One might say that its like a 200 lb file-cabinet, moving at +30 mph... suddenly crashing into your body. Or maybe, like a massive Football players Tackle... without the need to "Run", to get that kind of power. The other thing that is special about Fajin energy (used in a Strike format, where the OP doesnt really move, but their internals are instead, ruptured)... is that there is so much energy in such a small time unit... that the energy is not as "Vectoral". Meaning.. rather than merely going forwards, and pushing the OP backwards... The energy radiates in a spherical like Detonation... In all directions at the same time. Basically, there is way too much forces for the body to Absorb... and so, the forces spread out in every single direction at once. One time I tried using strike based Fajin, with a pool ball, and a Cue stick. Instead of trying to Push the ball, like in most fajin Demos.. I was instead, trying to release all of my energy, before the ball could even have a change to move. The timing is very difficult to accomplish. When I released... the ball didnt really move at all. I tried again... but this time I noticed, that the ball was in fact moving... but not in a way that I expected. When I released, the Cue ball Hopped vertically upwards off of the tables surface, about 2 to 3 mm high. Why? You see, all of that mass energy went into the stick, then into the ball. Since the ball is Solid.. rather than elastic and fluidic like human bodies... its a fantastic conductor of energy. The energy radiated out of the ball, in every direction , all at once. This "Vibrational" energy.. went into the very Slate Tables surface.. but since the table is also SOLID, it just bounced the energy back into the ball. And when the vibrational Energy from the table and the ball intersected, it caused the ball to be bounced off the surface. Of course, I was doing the Non Push / IMPACT version of Fajin. But both methods of Fajin delivery, has Similar qualities. And so even when you think about the Push version of Fajin being put into a human target... you will find a lot of the same things happen. The energy goes into the OPs body, which ends up traveling down into the legs, then out of their feet, to the Floor. Since the floor is solid... the energy is bounced back into the OPs own body... and effects them even more... like two large waves crashing together.

@@indefenceofthetraditionalma Ive replied to you in the past. Your issue, is clearly HOW you ask, that gets you Turned away. You see, there is a fairly Easy way to Negate this Demonstration.. by being very Relaxed. In these demos, the OP is intentionally remaining TENSE. In Tai Chi, one of the goals in their Sensitivity Training (Push Hand Drills) is to use methods that will trick the OP into being Tense.. or.. simply, to Catch them at the exact moment, when they present Rigidity. Its at that moment, when they are the most Easily Up-Rooted... and so you Exploit that, with strong Fajin energy. As such... since you come off as being "HOSTILE"... you become a threat to these guys. A threat in the sense, that if you try to fight "Resist", then their Responses will cause you to try to turn this Demo, into a real Fight. And that presents a LOT of problems. Its a Danger to start out from a relaxed state, where you are in a "DEMO" state of stance, positioning's, and mindset... Where if someone tries to attack you for real... then you are not well prepared for that situation. An example is Chi Sao. Ive seen fools start out doing Chi Sao (Sticking Hand Drills), and then out of the blue... go outside of sticky hand training rules.. and perform an open slap to a persons head. Chi Sao is a locked distance drill, and doesnt have the full Wing Chun techniques within it. Its specifically designed to get you to develop your Dual Arm coordination and Sensitivity, as quickly as possible. Its NOT a true representation of actual Wing Chun combat. If Im fighting someone with WC, Im in a LEAD leg stance. Not an open stance. Im also safely controlling the distances, and angles. Not casually sitting there like Fish in a Barrel. Ive had the misfortune of an MMA fighter, changing a Demo, into an actual fight. He chose to go against our Pre-Agree'd on MEDIUM levels of power (for safety sake, as we were doing this without Any gear)... and he upped to full power, with actual intent to cause serious harm.. when he got embarrassed about being continually shut down. It was because he upper to full power, that it Multiplied my own Impact potentials. So my 10% level forearm deflection... was multiplied to the point where it almost shattered his arm bone / wristbone area. He stopped fighting, and was grasping it, clearly in pain. Before the end of the hour, the Injury had swelled up, almost double in diameter... and he was in severe pains, for many days to follow. Im guessing a hairline fraction, combined with some harsh tissue inflammation, from the damages. Ive met a few Masterclass level fighters.. and let me tell you... as much as I didnt think highly about what they practiced.. I always maintained an Open mind, and was extremely Friendly and Respectful towards them. Once I gained their trust, showing that I didnt have Malicious Intend.. they allowed me to have a one on one sparring session with them. I never captured this stuff on film.. as my intent was not to try to shame others. My intent was to SEE for myself, if what they had... had any value. As well as to test my skills against these various arts methods. The more you know about your Enemies tactics.. the better prepared you are for such an Encounter. And sure enough... I learned the hard way... that these guys methods, were in fact, extremely Effective. One of them completely outclassed, and mopped the floor with me. And that was no small feat.. considering that it was the complete Inverse situation, when I was sparring against local blackbelt level fighters, from the many popular sportized arts (TKD, Muay Thai, Karate, MMA... and more). For the record, I live in the US, in the Upper part of NY. You can see some of my Ancient Sparring + Specialized Training equipment photos, if you go to the site " Flickr " and search for "kungfusteve@gmail" When the search comes back empty, click on the "PEOPLE" button.. and you will find my gallery (which has a combination of Arcade photos, and Martial Arts photos) When clicking on each photo, there will be a short description of each photo / device. When looking at what I train on... will give you an Idea of just how Hardcore, that I used to be. Ive had many different artists up in that "Attic Dojo", including some MMA fighters. None were able to keep up with my workout pace, intensity, nor anything else. And once they realized just how much harder the work was... they never returned. They preferred to train at a much more reduced level of "Sportized" efforts.

Ive trained in Wing Chun, some Tai Chi, a little Shaolin Longfist, and did Shaolin style Iron Body conditioning. I also Cross trained in Boxing Strikes, TKD + Muay Thai Kicks, Wushu and Northern Chinese Kicking + Some Acrobatic movements. I can tell you, that while this stuff "Looks" fake.. Its in fact, very real, and Really powerful. I used to spar against Blackbelt level fighters of all different arts styles... including MMA fighters, Muay Thai fighters, Karate, TKD, and many many more. When you apply Fajin in sparring / fighting... you dont tend to use it in a Push format. You CAN do it... but what would be the point? They will just keep coming back... because a Push, no matter how strong... is still not Concentrated enough to cause Damages (unless the OP is standing 3 ft away from a high cliff's edge). In most cases, you use the IMPACT version of Fajin... which is FAR more concentrated. Using Fajin energy in my punches... I was easily able to KO several different disrespectful fighters.. .from my lead guard hands vertical fist, to their Foreheads. I used less than 6 inches of travel, and I never used any more than about 15% of what I was capable of delivering. It make for very EASY KO's. At a different time, I was doing a demo with an MMA fighter. I told him to try to hit me with any kind of hand strikes that he chose. I told him, that while he was allowed to use both of his arms... that I was only going to limit myself to using a SINGLE arm against his Two. He almost laughed in my face, upon hearing this. But, he was a good sport... and starting throwing strikes at me. I easily parried / deflected everything he attempted. After about 2 minutes worth of this.. and he became embarrassed and Enraged... At this point... he decided to go against our Previously agreed upon "Medium" (safer) levels of power... and he amped up to using Full power, Full strength, with actual intent to cause serious harm. Of course, since you cant SEE power visibly... on FEEL it.. it was way too late, to avoid what took place next. He tried a Combination: A high right hook, followed immediately by a low-line punch towards my abdomen. He assumed that there was no way that Id be able to defend my Upper Gate, and Lower Gate, with a single arm... in such a short window of time... He even Smiled as he was throwing his right hook... as if to say "I GOT YOU NOW!"... I easily parried his hook, with an Upwards vectored Forearm deflection (Tok Sao). Then, I took a single step backwards, while dropping my arm vertically downwards, directly into the path of his next incoming strike. I used a downwards vectored forearm deflection (Jut Sao), and used about 10% level of Impact based FAJIN energy with it. At 10%, it should have been relatively safe... BUT... because he chose to use all of his power and strength behind HIS attack... it vastly Amplified the Impact forces... Not only did it easily deflect his attack... but it also almost shattered the bones in his arm. He stopped fighting, was grasping his wrist bone area in pain, and was looking completely confused, expecting to see me curled up in a ball, on the ground. I had to explain step by step what took place, as this stuff happens so fast, that he literally had no clue, what transpired. After I explained things, he smiled wide... called me a G0D.. shook my hand, and said "I have never seen, nor felt anything like that, in my entire Life!". I said... "Imagine if I had been using BOTH of my arms... instead of One." His face sobered up really quickly. I asked if he wanted a few more demo rounds, and he accepted. The next round was Legs vs Legs (any kind of kicks and leg defenses, but no arms). Next was Dual Arms vs Dual Arms. And the final round, was "Anything Goes" (All limbs in Play). He was not able to get a single strike, nor kick on me.. as I have superior technology, coupled with fully Mastered "Masterclass" level skillsets. Its not that he was bad... in fact, his techs were Textbook flawless, with great speed, accuracy, and power. We were also about the same build... with him being a hair taller, and 5 yrs younger. Its that MMA is a highly sportized version of the original combat arts... and I was using the highest level of Actual Combat arts. Anyway, each of these rounds were less than 3 minutes each. In the final round, he gave up in like 70 seconds, because he was completely over-whelmed, as I was completely dominating him, and using him like a personal kick-bag / wooden dummy. After that round, his wrist area was Really starting to both him. And before the end of the hour... it had swollen up to nearly Double in diameter. He was in Severe pains, from the injury... for many days to follow. I suspect it was either some micro-fractures, or a Hairline Fracture. Of Course, tissues also were Enflamed, so the very tissues clearly had suffered some damages too. And all of this, from a short range strike... with less than 10% on it. Ive also used Fajin with my kicks. A fighter once said that Wing Chun was SH*T, and so was I (I tend not to use KO / Harmful level of power, when I spar... Unless someone is disrespectful, and in need of a "Lesson"). SO I decided to give him a tiny Taste of what I, and Properly performed Wing Chun, was all about.. the next time we sparred. He took a single step towards me... and I used an "Oblique Kick" to his forwards leaning kneecap... using my Lead leg (very short range kick). He was in the process of throwing a Cross at me. I put somewhere between 10 to 15% on that Kick. He dropped instantly, like a bag of Stones. Was SCREAMING at the top of his lungs, and crying a river of tears. I felt quite bad about it, and apologized.. but Im not even sure he heard me. He was rolling around on the ground, grasping his knee.. and screaming / crying, for almost 5 minutes straight. Eventually he was helped up by two other men, whom helped him hop on one leg, back to his SUV. I didnt see him for quite some time after that... which was unusual, because he lived close to me, and we used to spar against each other, often. When I finally ran into him... he told me, that when he got home, his knee swelled up like a Mellon.. and he was in severe pains. He had to down like half a bottle of painkillers.. just to try to deal with the pain. He said, for some time, he was not even able to walk up his stairs, and had to Crawl up them. And that it took a MONTH, for his to fully Recover from that injury. After that, he never doubted that kick... which in sparring, I previously only used as a very soft "Stop-Kick". He stopped rushing in like a Bull (he was like 2x my own mass and strength), and was extremely cautious about getting anywhere within my Legs kicking range. Before that injury, he would just Eat my Light strikes, and then drive me to the ground, with his superior mass and strength. And trust me.. I previously warned him, that those Punches and Kicks... at heavy impact power, would have knocked him out, and or broke his leg... he just Laughed out loud. But after the injury, his attitude changed completely. He started practicing that same kick, for himself. Funny enough, one day he called me to tell me about this young tree that was planted by the city, in his front lawn. He said that he was using it to train this kick on, and wanted me to try it. Mind you, I trained my kick, on Fully Grown trees, while wearing Hard Leather bottomed dress shoes on. When I saw this little tree, which was like 3 inches in diameter... I was like "No way dude. I will destroy that thing". But he kept challenging me on the issue... so I decided to give it a few mid level kicks. After about 3 kicks, a bunch of the back was scraped off, and it was clearly not handling the abuses very well.. threatening to be broken. I stopped, knowing it would not hold up to anything more. He didnt say much... but I knew, that he realized, that I was on a completely different level, at that point.

Part 2: Just one more thing... While I first Mastered short range impact fajin... I later went back and worked on Push based Fajin. I developed it for a few months time, to a pretty decent level of expression. One day while walking through the store "Target", I was doing some martial arts arm movements, while walking the isles. One of the employees noticed, and asked me what I studied. I briefly explained... and asked him if he wanted a few little demos. He agreed... I decided to show him the Explosive Push. I held out my arms, and told him to push as hard as he could on them... to try to push me backwards. With all of his might, he could not budge me... and when he fully charged me up with his energy... I stepped forwards, and used Fajin expression. The dude flew back about 12 feet, and slid backwards on his butt, a few more feet.. due to the slippery floor. He was almost 15 feet away from me at that point... and he was blown away. I then did a small Inch power demo, on his hand, making it "Sizzle". These were impressive enough, for him to become one of my Private students. I also once did a short range fajin punch demo to a former Boxer. I usually use a phone book in front of the chest, to help absorb some of the impact forces, to reduce the possibility of internal damages / severe pains. However, there was no book at this place... and I figured, that if he had been a boxer in the past.. he must have some decently strong Abs. I used about 5 inches of runway, with a Fajin strike to his abdomen. I probably used about the same 15% that I typically use. 20% max. He also became one of my private students, as a result. He would later admit to me... that the day that I had struck him.. that he almost Involuntarily pooped his pants. He said that he had never experienced anything like that... especially from such a short range strike.

Many people believe that Yang style doesn't use fajin because they can't see a violent shaking of the body.
