Hey guys! I'm a trained doula and just wanted to tell you that there is a lot of people that choose to rent an Airbnb close to a hospital to be able to have a "home" birth but in a safer environment in case of an emergency. I don't know how it works in Sweden, but can you have an 'independent' widwife with you? I know some hospitals in Belgium allow it, others don't. The midwife has to be an official recognised midwife with all the paperwork/studies, but you probably want that anyway.

No one should be flirting with someone in a relationship...that is just disrespectful. If someone was flirting with me knowing I am married, I wouldn't want to be with that person. Joking around is one thing, actually hitting on someone is just not right.

Your Cabin is beautiful and full of love . I used to be a baby too, and there was no water or bathroom in our house and everything was fine. They bathed me in a small tub where they brought water from the well and heated it on the stove. We all slept together in one room, parents, brother and I, and what's wrong with that? And we were happy and satisfied. Kalle, good luck with your plans and renovations in the house. I hope you manage to arrange everything on time .Sending lots of love to you .🥰

Having the right chemistry with your midwife is so important: with my first birth I had a very horrible midwife for the first half of my labour, who wrote in my notes 'not coping with labour pains'. Thankfully she went off duty and the midwife, who delivered my daughter, was wonderful, she wrote in my notes 'coping brilliantly with labour pains' literally 10 minutes afterwards.....I delivered with no pain relief at all, in part due to the second midwife.

I went through natural childbirth here in the States. The hospital nurses were just excellent. They did all the preparatory things then left me to do my job, as you say. They checked on me often until it came time to start pushing. And they basically just caught him when he was born. I did all the work. No drugs, no interference at all. And even though I am an extremely modest person, being the only naked person in the room didn't bother me. I was too busy concentrating on breathing, making oxygen for my baby, and working with the contractions. You'll be surprised how much you don't even think about your naked body. You will do just fine! You guys are such a cute, wonderful, loving couple. I am truly excited for you both! It's such a wonderful thing to bring a brand new tiny life into the world.

Dearest Ms. Christine! Ok Sunshine- I'm a retired nurse. My first job was labor and delivery. ALL of the what if's, is something that can't be answered until the time comes. I know things seem like they need to be perfect. But they DO NOT. That may sound strange, but, you are missing the glory of carrying the child, and then the next step of being a mother. In the old days, YES babies were born at home, but it was customary that mom, grandmothers, and even neighbors were there to assist . But, we have lost that knowledge in this modern world. Honey, trust me, even if you have the best labor and delivery, you will STILL be more at ease having people around you that can take care of you, and Kalle, AND precious baby boy. Just stop and enjoy this entire experience. Things work out, not always exactly the way we want, but they still do. I will pray for you little Ms. People have been doing this for thousands of years. You too will take your place as well. 🤗sending you a big hug from Florida.

Christine, I have had 4 home births and my first was an unexpected free birth and it was my favorite! Because I knew I was going to have a homebirth, I was prepared with supplies. I just birthed my first baby at home in Switzerland- a country with a 1% home birth rate. I spent 9 months researching freebirth and wanted to have one so badly but my partner/mother/best friend all said I should have a medically trained midwife for the first birth present. I had a 42 hour labour and only invited the midwife 3 hours before delivering baby - after 2 hours she said, “you have one hour to get your baby out or else we have to transfer to the hospital”. The heart tones were fine and there was no real reason to transfer - other then the fact that I was very tired. She said this in the transition phase where I had the textbook, “I give up” phrase coming out of my mouth - thankfully my partner and best friend provided a safe cocoon around me and told me they 100% believed I could do it - and I did - within the next 30 mins my baby arrived naturally, in the safety and comfort of my home. Next time I will not be having a medical midwife present at my home birth. Freebirth all the way - you’ve got this women. This happened to us too when we had twins three years ago, and its not sorted to a way we wish just yet. We lived three hours apart when our company hadn't moved location up north yet(Skåne-Småland) And when we finally moved it up our forever home took way way longer to removate than ever expected. So we live in my parents basement two streets away, bless them. It didnt exactly look how I pictured it but this is how it is and there is so many memories my children have made with their grand parents that we will forever treasure. We had an amazing experience at the hospital with a natural birth, I could sit or stand or do whatever I wanted and feel free. There was six women doctors at the birth (twins) but at that point I had no idea of my surroundings and saw no one, thought of nothing but me and my work that was cur out, I was just in the zone. Hospitals can be great too.

I was disappointed to learn I had to have a hospital birth (because high risk), that killed my plans for a more natural setting. But my sister - a nurse midwife - just laughed and said, “when the time comes you really will not care that there is no lovely wallpaper or pictures on the wall 😁.” And she was right. It’s the people with you that matter, not the location. And there is comfort in knowing IF an emergency happens, it’s no big deal because you’re in the hospital. I ended up having a wonderful hospital natural birth, even with a doctor I’d never met (my midwife was on vacation!). ❤️💁‍♀️

Totally! We had a hospital birth and couldn’t not have wanted anything else. You feel safe with all the medical staff you need and if there are complications the chances are much higher of no one getting harmed. You are WAY overthinking it, and it’s just trendy right with free birth / home births, especially within hippieish people but if you truly care about the child you do it in an environment where it’s easiest to get help. You have NO idea on how the birth will go. It is gambling with the mothers and the child’s life!

Co sleeping with my babies for the first few months is how we do it. Then after that, start off in the crib IN OUR ROOM and whenever they need to be with me, i scoop them up and put back in bed with me. Greatest decision ever for us. ❤❤❤❤ 3 birth in hospital and 1 at home...wishing i would have done all of them at home. I love your birth plan, always listen to your body.

'Safe infant sleep' by James McKenna is a great book. Cosleeping works really well for us, and I loved having the book to learn how we could do it safely as I was quite nervous about the tiny baby in the beginning. Best of luck!

But my experience of Swedish hospitals is that they don´t force you. If you are in the hospital and want to do it naturally you can. But if something bad happens they can help with modern medicine, and save lives. Its not likte the will force you to make a caesarean section. If all goes well and you kan handle the pain it is going to be only You, Kalle and an midwife and maybe a helpnurse present. You can bring music and what you like to the room. (exept the dogs...)

Haha yes, so true! I’m finding out first hand that fire is so necessary! It has gotten down to -14°C in my house as the chimneys aren’t working and the electrics are no use at all-24°C!

Makes sense to me! 😊 Due to certain circumstances my husband and I lived in different locations for many years….not to our preference but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. We were married 33 years…so living in different locations is not necessarily a bad thing……life evolves and situations, preferences and expectations change…..Good luck to you.

Hello Kaleb and Christine, It's good that you're planning to do all these renovations. Because I think your life will be much better quality for it. And it really is okay to keep the baby's name to yourselves, enjoy that moment when you look at your child. It's so overwhelming and wonderful I know because I've been a mother twice now. Even though my two kids are grown, and have children of their own. But I can remember with each one of my children the moment they were born. My husband and I both looked at each child. And said their names at different points because they are both 3 years apart. A girl first then and a boy. Both of the names fit each one of our children but we savored that moment and it's okay that you savor the moment for the two of you. Before you tell it to the rest of the world if you choose to.

I can understand the feeling that you not want to live in the city or close suburban area, we have moved out to the countryside just an hour or so from Stockholm and I just love it out here. We have a big house and a very big garden and it's some sort of freedom just to look out through the window and you see nothing more than farmland. There are some backsides as well that you have to take in to consideration as you have your own water & sewer system, and nobody will remove the snow on your parking lot etc. But the feeling when you have done a long day at the office and you come home to the solitude and nature is worth it every day. I have the possibility to work from home 3 days a week so it helps a lot and I save about 2 hours a day in travel. But I still live so close to Stockholm that I can easily go there if I want or need. Perfect blend for me.. Just a bit more planning when you need to do the shopping. Is it just a small run you go to Rimbo (15-17 min) as it's the nearest place with stores but if you need to get some special things we have to travel a bit longer but 35 min to Uppsala and the same to Norrtälje. Just depends of your needs. / Love and take care up there in the (middle) of Sweden... /Micke

Just sending you guys encouragement ❤. I had my first baby this past April and was really apprehensive about having my baby in the hospital, but I did and it was still an incredible experience. If you end up doing that it can still be great. ❤ Things that helped me were dimming the lights in the room, bringing some battery operated candles to set the mood and playing relaxing nature sounds/spa music. Sometimes you can even bring a diffuser with essential oils like lavender for a familiar calming smell! Just check with your hospital and I wish you guys an amazing birth experience ❤

My wife and I lived in a one-room, slightly renovated building. No running water, no toilet, no bathroom. We moved there when my wife was pregnant with our second son. We lived there for two years. We slept in a large bowl, I carried water from the city, and I cleaned the compost toilet every two days :). It worked ;) It wasn't easy, but now we have water, a kitchen, decent heating, and sewage. Nothing more is needed

They had NO RUNNING WATER, my husband knew this but didn’t tell me till we got there. I thought I would die, our visit was so stressful. Now married 47 years, you’ll get through this ❤
