Why we like the unexpected Surface Go 2

Ғылым және технология

Microsoft's mini Surface returns with a bigger screen and more power. The keyboard and Surface Pen are still not included (and oddly, it runs "Windows 10 in S Mode") but the tablet is still a welcome addition to Microsoft's Surface lineup in 2020.
You can buy Microsoft Surface Go 2 here...

Samsung S6 lite is good for notes - its cheaper and includes pen which need not be charges.. $350 for (tablet + pen included). But if you prefer one size fits all,,, go for a 13 inch windows 2 in 1 like yoga c640.... its light enough to carry around and you can use pen to take notes and its less than $1000 including pen

I got the 1st surface go with the lowest specs about 6 months ago and I wouldn't replace it for any other 2 in 1. It's SUPER portable, fun to use and so handy for my Fine Arts University degree.despite what reviews say it can still run proper drawing programs like Krita. Glad to see a 2nd version of a device I love

I have the first Go and I love it. I have my own work laptop, so I don't need anything as big as 13" as a second portable device. But I need to do work on it, so I love that I can have a device running the same OS (I got win10 pro on my surface go). It works well for light programming, and even for teaching online lectures. And IT FITS IN MY PURSE. I love it and I hope it will have a deserved success on the market. No other device out there offers portability + a PC operating system and it's really well made.

I've got the original Surface Go, and I love it... I still use my laptop at home, but the Go and my laptop are all synced up through OneDrive. It's soooo easy to keep my work going while I'm out and about :) I'd like to add that Windows 10 S Mode isn't so bad anyways... I kept mine in S Mode for a long time, but had to pull it out, ironically, to install Microsoft Teams (some idiot upstairs canned the store version) ...But I still live by the principles of S Mode. I always check the store first for any apps, and give serious thought to anything from outside the store. Those principles have kept my little Surface Go going just as fast today as it was the day I bought it ;)

I really like the idea of S Mode. But Microsoft really needs to step up heavily to make store better. It's still the worst app store available unfortunately. Which is shame as "store competitor" Xbox application is pretty damn good these days. I wish though that MS would moderate it's store in future better as I absolutely hate many stores cause of their let's be honest, completely meaningless apps. By far worst being Nintendo Switch store that seems to have many free android games in it's store with huge price tags. I don't understand how they've gotten around it.

The 4GB 64GB eMMC Surface Go 2 is absolutely fine for Office 365, email, Netflix, KZread, MS edge. Multiple web pages, full blown multiple Excel, Word, PowerPoint files, multiple KZread channels can be opened at the same time. It reads and writes to a microSD card pretty fast. So, for a secondary PC it's worth it for business users / office goers. As a primary PC, the screen size might be a bit of a limiting factor. Overall, it's a great device even in it's lowest configuration for the type of usage mentioned above.

I've have been expecting it for about 3 months now. With little to no research someone looking into a Surface product should know and expect the keyboard does not come with it, although Best Buy does sell them in bundles and usually at a better price. I personally have had any no issues with "S" mode which is what I have heard I've called for about 2 years now. And, I like knowing where my apps are coming from. I have never installed Chrome on my other PC's now since the new Edge Chromium is available and in my opinion better than Chrome on PC. Unfortunately bad timing for portable devices on the go, no pun intended. I was really looking forward to the M3 version, but now holding off as I am working only from home.

I had the original Surface Go. I used it for about 2 days before I returned it. It's just too slow. Taking notes had noticeable lag with the pen. Google has gone out of their way to make their apps so slow on Edge they're borderline unusable. Taking it out of S Mode to install Chrome or Firefox filled up the 4GB of RAM in seconds. I ended up getting a not-quite-base model Surface Pro 5 and am still happy with it. The Go 2 with the m3 processor and 8GB of RAM may be a great choice for a lot of people, but at that price you may as well get an older model Pro, you can still find them new.

the surface go 1/2 use a different type cover connection from the previous devices. actually, I've been told that the covers from "regular" surface gen 4 and up are incompatible with pro 2 (and down) even though the connectors seem like they should be the same. at the very least, when i plugged my pro 2 into a current-gen typecover at the store it did not automatically start working (but i also didn't have an internet connection at the time, so perhaps if i had it would have installed some drivers and it would have worked?) I've bought surface 3 typecovers for my pro 2 (because the width is the same while the pro 3 typecovers are too wide) and that has worked, though.

I actually have a laptop that I haven't touched in years since getting my surface. I will be getting the 8 gb memory 128 surface SSD go 2 today so I can have a backup. Slightly concerned about the negative view about the speed so I will be testing it out because I make calls through crm for work. The only thing that I probably should have done differently is not keep my surface pro plugged in all the time so I think that I now need a new battery...ooops I won't make that mistake again. I also bought the accessories online which included the keyboard, a Bluetooth mouse, (docking station but not the Microsoft version because of price and I didn't like the look of it), a second cover that also works as a kickstand and mat, pen, USB c to a adapter so I can use the docking station with my pro as well.. Overall, I paid $715 total for everything brand new.. I have a hate type of relationship for used or renewed electronics and I don't think it was a bad deal. Excited to have two surface devices that will keep me from buying bulky laptops especially since I'm moving out of country and I need portable and lightweight fully functional Microsoft computers to go along with my kindle.

because you can choose the keyboard you want when it's separate? because if you already have a keyboard you don't have to buy another? i seriously don't get the hardship people have over it not being bundled. it won't magically cost less if they bundled it in.

The only thing tbf that bothers me about surface tablet product is that they seem like they try to be tablets? Since when you buy them it doesn't come with any attachments like the much needed keyboard. But they aren't really a tablet since they lack several apps. They don't have much storage so if you were to write documents here, which i believe is the main activity u cando here, u won't do it for long. I could be wrong tho, so if somebody got one of this, let me know how it feels

You are sooooo good at this and soooo engaging. I love the way you make reviewing a technical product like reviewing something that might be designed to make life better. You then judge it on whether it does. You reviews are so very human and engaging. And that is coming from an engineer who now helps people to be more human haha. I always feel that when I come to the end of our reviews ... short as they usually are .. that I have simply not had enough of you describing whatever it is. You do that good a job. Please don't say you will stop doing this. You are fab Dan. Just Fab. I love the Surface Go 2 too. Got the first one for my daughter and she loves it. (Thinking I might get the second one for me.... We shall see if I can swing that haha!!) Thanks, for the review and for all the vids you do. Keep up the fantastic work ... The beard suits by the way!

LEGODANIEL ONE These are not competitors to cheap, heavy 15.6” plastic laptops you can buy off the shelf at Walmart for under $300. These are for people who prioritize ultraportability and premium looks over getting the most processor power per dollar. Your comment is basically saying nobody should by a Mini Cooper because they could by a base model Ford F-150 with a bigger engine for the same price. Not every product is for everyone.

@@justiceprovider9822 The Surface Go is apparently Microsoft's best-selling Surface product. Its starting price puts it as a direct competitor to ipads and Chrombooks (particularly for schools) and what it lacks in power it makes up for by having a full desktop OS. I have the first gen (top spec) and I use it to run my small business on the go. I was surprised how sufficient it was for my productivity needs - Office, web browsing, emailing and light multimedia (Netflix, KZread).

And the webcam is great for Zoom. This new one is 60% faster and has better microphones, and a bigger battery too. It is a good deal.

@Andy Nguyen I totally agree. We have both in our house and the Surface go (original) is a very capable device. We tested it with my office set up with 2 external displays and ran different videos in each screen and opened different office files and had a skype conversation at the same time and the Pentium chip handled it all fine through the surface Dock - so just one cable. The new one will be even more capable and have better battery and screen. It is going to be a great machine. The Surface Pro is already a fabulous machine. It is strange that it can do so much and it is just a slate. There is nothing I have ever wanted to do (including Adobe, and other work) that I cannot do on my surface pro. I just wish it had a better battery. )I have a Surface pro 2017 so the newer ones have a better battery). Although I do now charge it with a 65W PD charger and a USB-C to surface power cable. No more battery anxiety. All good.

I'm thinking of buying the surface go 2 but I would only be able to afford the 4GB one... or maybe buying the surface go 1 used and I can afford the LTE version... or an old surface pro but I'm afraid that might be too big to carry... What do you think?? Thank you for reading all of this😂

I'm not sure how that guy is directing his answer, but S mode, using only apps from the store, will extend your battery life. Those apps, and the way that they are managed, are designed for battery efficiency... However, I still get decent battery life on my Go when i use non-store apps... I rarely catch myself needing more power, as long as i go out with a full charge ;)
