    It's all about code switching--using formal, polite language most of the time, and loosening language barriers with close friends. For me, it's not appropriate to swear at work, with elders or people I don't know well. It would be shocking for me to swear at work, church or big family gatherings...but not shocking if I were out with my best friends. For WongFu, this is your work--I think it's reasonable to avoid swearing in general, if it would upset your audience. (But I'll still love and respect you guys! This made me laugh.)

One of the reasons I love your videos is because it tends to be genuinely meaningful. You don't need swear words to make it more so- in fact it tends to detract!! Please don't swear to be mainstream WongFu!!!!!

    I love the fact that you guys do everything clean. It is so refreshing to have entertainment like this in a world and internet where explicitness is everywhere and often present uninvited; where stand up comedy is more often than not about shock value to the point of numbing the very audience they seek to shock and titillate. Keep it going guys, the world needs more like you all.

    1.) I don't typically swear and I try to avoid euphemisms for swearing. I do this because I believe my choice of words in my culture is part of my representation of my faith. And I do it because I believe there are plenty of apt words to express what I want to say. But it's more the representing my faith thing. 2.) I don't believe there are "bad words"-- societies shift meanings of words and gestures all the time. The intention behind words is far more important. However, the words a society chooses as swear words are shortcuts for communicating those associated thoughts/feelings. So I avoid the shortcuts. 3.) The only time I get annoyed by a random person swearing is if it's excessive. That's just shock value at play, in my mind. Lazy shock value. And that's irritating. 4.) I do teach my children not to use certain words, but I explain WHY. I also teach them not to use any word they aren't familiar with, because word choices are important for clear communication. The End. lol

    I really appreciate that you mostly keep it out of your videos. I don't swear. Its how I was raised and I just don't see the point. Not even in anger. It use to not bother me to hear it but since I became a mom its a really big issue. Most people think its no big deal and just words but I can remember when swearing in public was considered disrespectful. Now no one cares and your the weird one for not.

    I'm the same, Melissa. But I don't mind as much with other people swearing anymore. And as for those studies that show that swearing helps with pain, that's only if you have a cognitive bias of swearing being a pain reliever which is a popular thought so it works for the majority of people. For someone who doesn't swear, it's not effective. (I'm silent when I hurt myself, never understood why people make any sounds)

    I TOTALLY GET IT the most irritating pet peeve I have is when someone says "ooh u sweared" I totally get this video bc it's legit just a four letter word, like I don't swear a lot but you don't have to be so surprised when I say them, I personally think yeah, they should be included in scripts and songs because they express stronger emotions other words can't haha- and CENSORSHIP, like I feel like just muting the video while the word is being said would be more useful than bleeping it - sorry for the rant i just find this video so relatable

  • @fruitypuffs5700

    @fruitypuffs5700

    7 жыл бұрын

    That's an interesting pet peeve because I don't mind people telling me not to swear or when they're surprised and I very rarely swear but I can see how that could get annoying. I see what you mean when you say that swear words would depict a stronger emotion but since so many people swear nowadays and you hear those swear words so often, I think it's much stronger if people do not use swear words to express their emotions. It's just about bringing back what is rare now. It's the same idea with swearing when you're angry if you rarely swear.

I have followed your work and do appreciate the effort to keeping the content at a G rating as I know I can freely share your videos to colleagues and friends without concern that there may be offensive or lewd material that has increased in media. I also believe that whatever I share is a representation of my views. Thanks for the warnings in videos when offensive terminology is used. I really appreciate that you guys don't swear, and that you put the warnings on vids that have it. I really can't take people seriously when half of their words are expletives.

    I only say bad words under my breath when I am mad, upset, or frustrated. When I was younger a lot of kids always pushed me to say things like the f-bomb which was really weird.. xD As for WongFu saying bad words, I always assumed that they say them in their personal lives, but noticed that they do not really feature it in their videos. I respect any way they choose to create dialogue for their work! :D

    I watch youtube on my TV with a not so good HDMI cord that cuts out sometimes. And it cut it right in the beginning of the video, so it was like the HDMI cord censored Phil for me 😂😂😂😂

    i don't swear personally because i don't like the extremity of those words in my vocabulary. they just feel kinda gross in my mouth because the words have the potential to hurt someone so much. it also leaves it so when i do swear people know something is wrong.
