Why We Don’t Like Premier 1 Poultry Netting
Backyard Chickens - Moving Chickens
Today we are moving our egg laying chickens out of the chicken tractors and giving them some pasture to roam on.
These are a mix of different chicken breeds that lay white eggs and brown eggs. They have been in the chicken tractors while they get a bit older and bigger and its time to go outside.
We use Premier1 poultry netting and a Gallagher energizer to give them an area to work in.
This video is a backyard chickens for beginners or a backyard chickens 101 type video talking about basic chicken care and raising chickens as a beginner.

We live in trying times. Anything we can raise and keep on farms maybe crucial for our families, friends and neighbors. You have a nice set-up, may you have much success !

Maybe I missed it, but I did not catch why you don't like the premiere 1 netting.

He doesn’t like the ones that are 164 ft in length. They like the ones that are 100 ft long.

Just click bait. Doesn't like the size - but, gosh, I'm sure all fencing comes in different sizes - not just Premier 1. I want to buy this brand so I took the time to see what the cons might be.
I'm sure your glad the snow is gone. Missing Sondra, she is such a sweetie. Blessings to you and yours & Jamie.

Thanks. She is neck deep in work. Looking forward to her being able to be out with us more.
Good tip on the fence. I'm 61 now.
Working on getting the farming part going here, good to see different people's ways of doing things.

Thanks. Appreciate y’all watching
I 100% agree. The 100 foot fencing is much easier to maneuver. I found the 164 foot sections tend to get much more tangled while setting up as well. I'm waiting for the two feet of snow to melt and the ground to thaw so I can set my netting up. Spring is coming in Maine, but not for another month or so.
Always makes me happy when it is light past 5 pm. Is the pits feeding and chores 2x/day in the dark during the week. I need a Jamie on my farm for heavy lifting help where my tractor won’t fit. yep not getting any younger.
Hi.... Thank you 🎥👍👍👍
Thank you for breaking everything down for us "rookies".
I have a small coup built that will accommodate 3 or 4.. This will be our first experience with egg chickens….any livestock really. Looking to order or pick up some in March as we are in Pittsburgh area. Very informative videos.😃🌈🤙

A rooster 🐓 keeps the old hens from bullying the Spring chickens! Your customers decide your products. Pastured eggs and stewing hens. 😆lol

Oh yeah. Roosters are very useful. Can’t get out of the egg business. 🤣
Thank you, sir, for the information and insight. I've got chickens now in a permanent coop with a fenced parcel of yard but want to move them out to pasture. These are egg layers. I'm curious what feed you use for your layers and broilers. Thanks again.
You have a good mix of hens, they should roost inside the coop of a night, so no problem, good luck with the eggs

Thanks! We mounted some roosts in the tractor and they use them a lot. Thanks for watching
Yep! 100 ft is the maximum we can maneuver..... even that is still heavy.
You can always trade eggs for what you don't raise or grow eggs make good barter
I am not a fan of premier 1 fencing. In west Texas, we get a lot of wind. The design of the fence poles doesn’t hold up well out here. The cheap plastic poles break off just above the the spike. The netting is less than 10 months old and four poles have broke. Tried the Kencove brand poultry netting. Their poles seem to be made much sturdier. The Kencove netting has been up same amount of time under same conditions. None of their poles have broken off.

Thank you for sharing this important information
i have a 4x8 trailer frame and a smaller motorcycle trailer frame Im not using on my farm...Lincolnton.
We are hoping to not need feed except for in the winters here because we have a crazy amount of insects and bugs. But if we have to supplement, we are going to do our own feed blend. It's money up front, but after mixing it, it comes out cheaper than feed costs. Maybe mixing your own will bring you all more profits on your eggs?
I missed the part where you say why you DON'T like Premeir1 netting. Was it just the longer lengths you dislike?
@SheratonParkFarms

Yes. The 164’ are just too cumbersome to handle.
Can you use this in a straight line along a fence or does it have to be in a circle?
can you get a fence kit that puts out a stronger zap..
Chuck, wouldn't a guard goose help out???

Yes! We will be back at high Point this year. We are also looking to do another market closer to home on Tuesdays.
Sorry if I missed it. But where did you say why you don't like the Premier 1 netting?

Section size. We don’t like the 164’ sections.
Did you get any roosters 'by accident'? It would be nice to have a few in the group.

We did not. First time every actually. I’m sure we’ll buy some before the season ends.
You do have a pretty flock
Chuck, sorry if I missed something but why is the title of the video why you DON'T like Premiere 1 chicken fencing? I watched this one in particular because we are expanding our meat bird operation and we have to have as much protection around animals as possible! (We live in mountains near Yellowstone. Does THAT tell you about our kind of predators!? LOL) Please let me know what works well or DOESN'T work well about this chicken fencing ok? Maybe Im just exhausted from meat processing and calving season and missed your comment about the fencing. LOL! Thanks Chuck! Shelley

It’s the length of sections. We don’t like the 164’ sections because they are too heavy and cumbersome. The 100’ works great!

Thats handy, dont have to worry about a grounding rod.
Well this friends keep foxes out?
I see a brown laghorn
I just can’t swallow the price on electric netting. It’s crazy!
Reason not liked: The 164 ft netting is to heavy. The 100 ft roll is lighter and more manageable.

Ah! Appreciate your comment. By the end of the video I'd forgotten what they didn't like about it! 😄 We're getting ready to put up 48" X 164' Rent-A-Coop netting for the first time. If it's too cumbersome, perhaps we'll cut it in half and tie jumper wire lines up the ends so we can make a connection at one location of the two ends.

What you must of had a lapse in judgment for sure people prefer farm fresh eggs and many will pay premium $ For farm fresh 1 they just taste better 2 they are better for you especially when organically raised and free range 3 many for humain reasons don't support or like commercially raised chickens it's just cruel the way commercial farms work no matter which animal being forced fed and no excerise 4 be a pepper the day is coming that you won't be able to buy in store your regular customers will see you through the lean times
Cant hear you.

I just don't understand the egg obsession. Are we living 100+ years ago? Do people eat a dozen per week like back then? Sprouts sells pasture organic eggs for $2.99/dozen on sale.

You got me. I didn't know a new farmer with a few layers had it all figured out. We're moving into a new era! Whew!
Why is the title a gratuitous swipe at Premier1 netting, when the video doesn't say anything about what you don't like about the product? Is it merely a clumsy attempt at clickbait? Seems to me if you didn't like it, you would have bought something else instead.
Hi, could I have your email so I can get in touch with you for business inquiries? Thank you in advance if you actually see and reply to this!! (I couldn't find a clue so I decided to comment here, hope it won't disturb you!)
