37 years ago, my parents converted an old ups truck into a tiny home and we lived in the redwoods above the smith river in California. We moved back into town so I could start school and my parents ended up getting a divorce. My mother always said that if she had known about homeschooling, we never would have left and she feels that her marriage would have lasted. My father was an alcoholic and being in the mountains meant he was sober. We were happy. I miss those times so much. Over the years I have lived a nomadic lifestyle. I am currently living in a house with the love of my life and our three children. We have a scamp trailer that we bought for 1500.00 and are fixing it up. Maybe we will live in it later on, but for now, it’s an amazing escape. I love your vision and your videos, best of luck to you both. Blessed be.

I've seen countless videos like this, and this is the first HONEST one I've seen. well done
I know this is an older video but it's really great to see the thought process behind your decision and how it's mirroring my thought process. I went from thinking of buying a fixer-upper > buying land and building a house > buying land and having a tiny house on it > towing the house around > buying an RV/Van. I'm still super undecided but I'm realizing why so many people are choosing to live off-grid when even when you own land/house, you're still subject to the city/county/state as your landlord.
I love that you guys had a tiny house plan, saw some obstacles, and just rerouted. You're better than my GPS. That thing just leads me to dead ends.
You guys are like a cute turtle family! Traveling with your home, and adventuring through beautiful nature.

I have seen many of your very nice, and nicely done videos, but I have never seen this story of your evolution of how you came to dicide to live in the Scamp!!! Interesting story! So glad, as others have pointed out - that you found each other, enjoy your lives together, and continue to do so. Nice music, too
I had a 1988 16ft Scamp and it had a small restroom with the option to install a shower we did not install a shower since most r.v parks have showers and rest rooms. We also camped with our 12 & 8 year old children and the front sofa converted into a bunk bed. Our Scamp was loaded with almost every option it even had a small awning. The kids finally out grew the bunks and I used it out at my deer camp for several years. I sold it for what I bought it for 6.5 years later . It was a very good starter camper.
Hi you two.. I had the exact same public poo poo experience when I started fixing up my TrailManor.... My husband passed in 2017 and all I wanted to do was get out of my house. After, a year passed, I did it and am so glad I followed MY DESIRE and not the comments of the public. Thanks for sharing, Lo :)
What a lovely story. I did a review of the scamp but never thought about it would be possible to live in one. It just shows how perspective can change once you determine what's really important and what makes you happy. Thanks so much for sharing!

I love how you tell your story, it is perfect: perfect voices, not loud , you complete each other seamlessly, soft music, clear video, family pictures. It is just good vibes. You have done your research well and found balance. Very rare to see such wisdom in young people. I wish you the best.
I LOVE your cute little Scamp - it's all anyone needs...and it's got SO MUCH character!!

My husband and I have been married almost 36 years and purchased a 35 ft sailboat back in October of 2016 and that is what we live on. I think it is so cool that your are doing a camper.
You really put a lot of planning, thought and analysis into this lifestyle and by sharing, you’re paving the way for others! Making your grandparents proud!!
You two are a breath of fresh air! I just purchased an ‘80 travel trailer (not a scamp but still rockin!), and clicked on your video as my first of many to watch in my new journey. Your vlog kept my attention with pertinent information, and you both are so well spoken and articulate in the way you delivered the info to your viewers. I’m not generally a you tuber per se, but I really dug your video - so thanks! If you’re ever out near Death Valley / southern part of Sierra Nevada Mtn range, please look me up!! All the best to you guys!

Omg, I first read that as 80 feet not 1980, lol! It's early, what can I say?
If you ever do think you need more room, then I would suggest a good used Van. It would double your living space and give you 2 rooms. You could also buy a Thetford chemical toilet to keep in the van. I currently drive a GMC Savanah Van which has about as much space as your camper...and I have been contemplating a tiny camper. I think this would be the perfect setup.
I also love the candid aspect of ur journey and how much organic thought/planning with it. I also love the family & friends involvement.
Absolute definition of liberation.. Live the life you want to, not the one that everybody else does. Getting to freedom isn't cheap, but once your there, that life, is priceless. Nothing but love guys.
Happy Scampiversary 😊

good luck you two! my first time was 3-4 months in a 1970's vw camper with my wife and cat. we had a great time blasting around florida. I think you are starting out right! good luck, and may the wind fill your sails!
I adore your videos so much. You both are so passionate and it's just so inspiring to watch
My sister & her husband lived in a Fifth Wheel for about 5 years. His job took him all over so they just drove their "house" to the next job & stayed at RV parks. Their Fifth Wheel had pop outs which made it bigger, 2 plush recliners inside, a bathroom with a shower of course & was plenty big enough for the 2 of them & the baby. Me personally - I could handle living full time in a Fifth Wheel or a Tiny House. I'd actually love it! But Scamps....not so much. They're just way too small & claustrophobic for my taste. Tho I admire anyone who can live in a Scamp full time!
Awesome video! We had a 1981 Scamp 16’ for about 3 years - about 95% re-did it and had a blast in it. Made what we had into it back when we sold it (needed a larger bed as our dog is bigger than your dog) so yep - they definitely hold their value! And my husband would have our dog and me sit on the bed so he could hand maneuver it. We have a slightly larger trailer now but still under 20’ so can fit where we want!
Shibas love the outdoors. Camp is so cute! It is so wonderful you both have chosen to live the life you want.
Love your videos, way of living life, and attitude. You’re such a refreshing couple. Stay safe, Be careful and Keep on rolling.
I too was interested in tiny houses for travel nursing but they're heavy, you need a truck and there are restrictions. Then RVs, Class C, vintage travel trailers, tear drops, and then I came across van life! I don't like the idea of towing. Funny how the ideas got smaller and smaller! Take care, thanks for sharing.

Ironically, I lived in a van for a few years and found the lack of space to be so confining and depressing, I was thinking about moving back to a stix & brix house once again. Then, I started looking at small Casitas, Scamps, and small travel trailers like what Jayco makes. It turns out, you can buy a brand new Jayco (or other brand small trailer like Coleman) for the same price of an old wiped out Casitia or Scamp! I went with a 154 Bunkhouse that has a kitchen, full bath room with a tub, , a full kitchen with a stove top, microwave, hot water, food prep area, dining area, heat, air conditioning, TV/entertainment system, and a built-in monitor to keep an eye on all systems and levels - that only weighed 2500 lbs.! It's easily towable with my small S10 4x4 pickup truck, and I can leave my small home just about anywhere (safe), and go into town, run errands, or get it repaired without losing my living quarters. Towing a small trailer that provides ALL the amenities and is designed for travel and living efficiently in a small space is head and shoulders above living in 50 square foot van - ANY DAY! The only drawback, is the whole stealth travel thing goes out the window once and for all.

So glad I clicked. Basically been looking for a way to live out of the box so can rent out or sale the house. Found some tiny houses built to code for city/state dwelling and been binge watching Kirsten Dirksen channel seeing how ppl all over world build modular contained furniture and build out tiny spaces or even larger spaces efficiently (def check it out, opens up all kinds possibilities for future ideas!). Tiny house can rent out later on as cool place but so expensive and iffy on where it can go like you said. As of yesterday someone finally convinced me to look at airstream or small RVs and so thankful for your whole thought process and thorough video of what REALLY goes into these decisions. Thank you!
We just bought a 12ft Taylor Coach, and it is 1480lbs...loaded, probably 2000lbs. Our 4cyl suv is rated to tow 2800lbs. It is fully loaded with inside and outside shower, has one of those tiny bathrooms, we luv it, queen bed, fridge, stove, hot water, air conditioner. Bought a arvika bike rack for front, our plan is travel all across the states next year, about 2 months...who knows...we will be retired! Taking our 16yr old chuhuahua with us! My husband and I have been together for 7 years and have been talking about tiny living ever since. Unfortunately we've needed to live with my grandparents while I heal from chronic illness for the past 4 of those 7 years, but now that I am feeling better, I'm binge watching all your videos. Our obstacles right now are figuring out how to feed ourselves with so many dietary restrictions, getting solid on location-independent income and where we will do laundry (I have chemical sensitivity so public laundry just won't work). When we figure that out then we have savings so I hope it will all work out. That was longer than I expected, but in essence THANK YOU.

There are tiny clothes washers that easily fit under cabinet when not in use. Sensitivity to chemicals and dirty air is a challenge. Keeping the interior of my boler is a snap . . . Treasure every minute! In1971, we left the Midwest with a 4' x 6' trailer full of camping gear and everything we owned. Albuquerque was our home base for our travels until the mid '80s. I wouldn't trade the memories for anything.
Wow! That gives me a “light bulb moment”! In the late eighties.. and into the early nineties, we owned a small used “70’s style” trailer that was 13 ft. The “bathroom” was actually just a closet with a porta-potty. Since we didn’t want to clean it .. we NEVER used it. I’ve been thinking if something like a 17 ft trailer that gad a “real” bathroom.. but maybe your idea is better! Good tip: look into fiberglass trailers. Thanks. So many “conventional” trailers end up with roof problems.. I would rather avoid that. The aluminum Airstreams seem solid .. but they are wicked expensive .. but seem to hold their value very good.

That's a good idea to not have a bathroom. I agree with your thoughts unless you are like me. I have Crohnes Disease and have to have a bathroom in my trailer. I'm planning my van and cargo trailer builds around the bathroom necessity. My advice for anyone looking into this life is to find what is necessary for you to live the life you choose and model your build or purchase around that necessity.

I'm 22 my boyfriend is 21 and we had no idea that these even existed. thank you for opening up a new door for us to explore!
It is extremely liberating to live this way. Thank you for your channel. Love you guys. I enjoy residing in my 1973 28 ft Starcraft camper. It's been a year & a half of happiness knowing it's paid off. Enjoying the outdoors is a wonderful thing.

We just registered the Soobie yesterday! It was so expensive and we were so pissed at the DMV, but we gotta play their game while we play ours. Cheating the corrupt system in many ways. Where are you based out of? Where are your favorite places to visit? We are looking to explore NM and AZ in the upcoming months!

Elsa Rhae I'm about an hour east of Charlotte NC. Originally from Florida, I'm a transplant. My house is currently on a little piece of land. One day I'd love to travel like yall do. It was much easier than I thought to downsize. My tiny house is customized by me & it's my sanctuary attached to the outdoors.
I would need scamp with bathroom. I'm very proud of you guys

that was a great price for the scamp!
Loved that you push through societal boundaries. Keep doing you!!!
Awesome video, keep at it! Your vision is pretty rad! Thanks for sharing and being REAL.
God!! I wish I'd done this 25 years ago. I'm 48 married for 25 years and have 2 daughters who mean the world to me. I bought a house in 1993 and still have 13 years left on the mortgage. When I finally do pay it off I'll be paying over 10k a year just on property tax. Unless one makes upwards of 150k a year I believe a conventional house is not worth the effort.

this is unreal. where are you people living? i live in ohio, right outside of pittsburgh. close proximity to great culture, museums, arts, pro sports teams etc. i bought a newly remodeled 4 bedroom house with a garage and fenced yard for 68K. 50-80K for a tiny house is INSANE. oh, and my taxes on the house are 800-900 dollars a year. period. no bullshit "school tax" of a few grand a year like in pennsylvania, no hundred ways to fuck money out of our residents like in most states, i.e., no bullshit dog liscience, no bullshit gas taxs - I save $5 on every half tank of gas i get in ohio when i gas up at home then drive the short 30 min drive to work in PA, no bullshit vehicle emissions every years, no property taxes on vehicles are any of the insane shit people pay. don't understand why they put up with that shit.

It's worse in other parts of the country. In Northern Virginia even townhouses start at $400k+. Of course some of the jobs pay well, but not that well. Buying a house in this economy is almost impossible. :(

What's the total weight of this camper? I have been looking for a light weight for my RAV4. Hard to find.
