Well, Yes. We did buy a Sprinter van and yes, it is powered (somewhat) by Diesel. In this video I go over why the esprinter and other electric vans aren't meeting our needs and why (for now) we went with a diesel powered sprinter van as our campervan. This van was professionally built by ‪@RossmonsterRigs‬ . Let me know down in the comments if you want to see more of this van.

Yes, I realize that I messed up several times saying motor instead of engine when referring to the diesel engine. I'm so used to saying motor because of Tesla so I apologize. I'm interested to hear your feedback. Please leave a comment below. Sprinter Van Accessories: amzn.to/47UE2V7 As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

I have been driving Tesla’s for more than 10 years and I can tell you that I would not be considering a camper van that’s electric for at least another 10 years. The technology still has a lot of improvement to do. 350 pounds of payload is not acceptable. We started with a 144 high top Airstream class B and it was great. Now we upgraded to the 170 inch Class B at a little under 23 feet. We needed a little more space. It would be completely impossible to build an electric vehicle on either one of those chassis that would be useful for camping in this day and age. It takes a tremendous amount of power to move all that weight down the road and up-and-down hills like you said. Then, you sit Boondocking, and have no power. The only way it might be of utility is if you use a campground with electric plug-in. Our van also is otherwise all electric other than the diesel motor.

Thanks for your insight. I hope it’s less than 10 years away.

Tesla plug is a huge deal. Very reliable charging.

Agree. Without it you rely on unreliable chargers. The other big thing for us is the size, couldn't get the 170 because it was too big.

Your diesel Sprinter doesn’t nearly have the power a Tesla has and that is also fine. It’s also about torque for steep inclines and that shouldn’t be a problem for any electric car. I totally understand the price and range topic for and off road and off grid vehicle

Im no expert so I wanna ask this. Why can't we have a diesel powered that is supplemented by electric batteries?

I assume you mean like a hybrid but with the diesel motor... I don't see why not but like you i'm no expert. Perhaps someone else on here that is an expert can try to explain. It seems like you could do it just like a traditional hybrid... I do think some 18 wheelers in the US have a battery system that helps them be more fuel efficient on the highways.

@@ALLElectricChannel know what you are right! That is basically a hybrid but instead of gas, its gonna be diesel. i personally think that would help alot of Weekend campers and even van lifers that purchase benz. Imagine not having the need to actually install and purchase a different battery to fit your car AND it helps run your car too. Unfortunately though as it is a Mercedez car, it will always be expensive to maintain.
