You went at the perfect time to Big Bend. My family took a trip during the summer months and the heat was brutal. It's a beautiful area and being able to go off road is an adventure. Have to watch out for the roadrunners ❤

If you enjoy it fine , good for you. This style of travelling isnt for everyone. I personally would be fearful for our safety in secluded areas and I would also want more creature comforts. Enjoy your trip.

Pros and cons. The Corolla can’t get me to these amazing place so 🤷‍♀️💰😆 But we are averaging around 15mpg in the Tundra all geared up so it could be worse.

Utah is gorgeous. Especially around the St George area. We are going to try to go to South Dakota next year. We want to see some wild buffalos and Mt Rushmore. Also the Black Hills

Looks like fun! Well, one place I hope you're not heading is to the panhandle of Texas, with wild fires going on. Just curious, are your older girls traveling with you or did they decide to do something else? Never used a rooftop tent so wasn't sure how many people could sleep in it. Thanks for sharing!

It’s a ROAM Vagabond XL.

RVs do not just stay in RV parks. Plenty of people boondock and get deep into the wilderness. Not as far as you can go. RV holds more water, solar, battery storage and or generator. Get deeper into the West and you will see this.

The wilderness is really pretty but what do you do there to entertain yourselves all day? Walks? Swims? Also are there wild animals about?

Are the girls travelling with you ?

The Camper would have been more spacious with bathroom and kitchen too. That I can imagine doing. This is a bit too rough for me.But I hear your reasons. So what about bathroom/ shower facilities and cooking?

Cooking is easy peasy 😊 We have a propane cooktop and also can cook over fires or charcoal grills. Showers and bathrooms are more variable. We can do it all off grid or at campgrounds that have facilities.

The tent is just for sleeping, but between the 2 levels, it can technically sleeps 8. We literally just go into the tent to sleep or right before bed to read tho. We have lots of outdoor space 😉
