Why we are getting out of Nicaragua | Nicaragua Travel Vlog

All good things must come to an end. In this Nicaragua travel vlog we share why we are getting out of Nicaragua. We’ll reflect on the amazing time that we have living in Nicaragua over the last 18 months and give our ‘bucket list awards’ to the best Nicaragua travel experiences that we have had whilst visiting Nicaragua. We also share our experiences with visa extension and share what is next in our Central America travel adventure.
Here’s the links for the Nicaragua accommodation that we mentioned in the video:

    Continued.. Just finished watching the vid and THE reason you're living is possibly the most respectable, as it's nearly impossible to argue against following a country's laws. Having said that, you guys are one in a million and it was a pleasure to have been part of the adventure. You have certainly treated Nicaragua and its people with respect and your efforts to highlight the beauties of Nicaragua have been invaluable. For that and much more, you are loved by Nicaraguans the world over. Lastly, it has been a privilege (and flattering) to have Australians appreciate the beauty of our land, particularly because Australia is such a magnificent place with awe-inspiring fauna, nature, culture, etc. YOU WILL BE MISSED, but hopefully we'll see you again soon... should you decide to return to your humble home in Central America, you'll be welcomed with open arms. Sincerely, Edward

    Fun watching. My wife and I was stuck in Nicaragua for 6 months because of Covid and the border closed. We also lived in Granada in a house manage by GPS - they are amazing and we had the best house help in Maria and the staff at GPS. We lost our hearts to the city and got some good friends. Nicaragua is just so very different and Granada is so beautiful that we will want to return one day. Thank you for sharing your story as it reminded me of the wonderful time we had.

    @@BucketListTravellers Almost, we did however decide to fly out after 6 month when we got the offer to come with a charted flight. A little more expensive but not too bad. And we got 2 month extension of our visa usually and only had to be without our passports one week each time. But we used the same office as you show in the film, the same supermarket (so much better than the other one next door owned by Walmart) and we also had some trips out of Granada. Only thing we did not find so amusing was the Calzada except for Sarahs food at Pan de Vida :-) Funny we didn't meet as we were so few visitors left at one point.

A few of our fav spots was the little surf town of Tamarindo, we had the best pasta of our lives there (and we have been to Italy), We to one spot (bueno vista adventure park) with horse back riding, zip lining and they had a jungle water slide that is 600 m long (that was a really fun ride and you sure got your exercise in climbing back to the top for multiple runs) and we spent a few nights a really secluded spot called Recreo. It was more expensive, but a great experience, you have your own chief, live right in the jungle in your own little spot, you can play tennis, go horse back riding, they have a private beach...everything is included at no extra cost - really great if you want a little pampering.

    @BucketListTravellers

    Hey Christopher, great question! It is a tough one, like asking which of your children is your favourite! Both countries have amazing natural beauty, however what give Nicaragua the edge in our view is Ometepe Island. It is a magical place and one of the most beautiful places to visit in the world. You can also enjoy the natural beauty of Nicaragua in relative solitude as it isn't as popular as Costa Rica from a tourist perspective (yet!). What we would say about Costa Rica is that it has a more comprehensive natural conservation program in place.

    🤗🤗🤗🤗 Hola Johanna! So nice to hear from you. We are still making the most of our situation, not sure when we'll be back in Australia but not in a rush. We hope all is well with you and family back in Oz.

    Hi hi! I'm going to visit Nicaragua for a month next week. Thanks for all the tips! Small question: How is the situation with mosquitoes? Is only mosquito repellent enough or is mosquito net needed during the night?

    Hi Tom! Mosquitos are going to be a fact of life in Nicaragua, they will be everywhere. If your accommodation has good seals on windows and doors then you should be ok. You typically only get mosquito nets when you are in accommodation out in the jungle somewhere. We found that cranking up the fans tends to keep them off you at night. Repellant should help too. Have a great trip!

    Where do you rate San Juan Del Sur behind Granada?

    Good question Ray! There were a lot of things we loved about San Juan del Sur; e.g. the beautiful bay, the cafe scene. Ultimately it was down to our personal preference. Granada had more convenience, in a more central location and we found we had more a cultural fit with Granada. We did visit San Juan del Sur twice, and we would recommend it to anyone visiting Nicaragua.

    How is the english in Nicaragua ? I speak a bit of day to day spanish, but not fluent.

    You should be fine with that. Most of the touristy areas - Granada, Leon and San Juan Del Sur, will have plenty of English speakers in hotels and restaurants. If you want to venture off the beaten track, like we did, it definitely helps to have an intermediate level of Spanish as you won't come across many people who speak English. - Jon

    This is where my mother is from & I think she left a great country in 1950, never to return. How very sad, I wish to visit someday & think I might never want to leave. Thank you for the videos. Sadly now with Covoid I'm not sure if I can ever visit.

    Hi Viva LaChoice, Nicaragua has certainly had its ups and downs. It would be a shame to never visit, it really is a wonderful country with wonderful people. We hope covid ends soon so you can visit.🤞🤞🤞

    Thanks so much for your kind words Edward. It's a shame we didn't know each other when we were in Estelí a couple of months ago. We have plenty more to share about Estelí as well, we love your home city! 🥰

    Hi Randy, yes Australia is having a tough time with Delta right now. Flight caps into Australia (limitations on how many Aussies can return each week) have also tightened recently, we have just made our peace that we won't we returning until next year at the earliest.
