Why was Burt Reynolds FIRED from his 1st TV series? Co-star Michael McGreevey remembers! AWOW

Ойын-сауық

Being a "fly on the wall" is what it's like to be a child actor remembers Michael McGreevey. He ought to know, his resume reads like a Who's Who of Hollywood and his behind-the-scenes revelations are both eye opening and very, very funny. Among his credits are several feature films with the likes of Kurt Russell, Richard Widmark and his "screen brother," Bill Mumy. Find out about McGreevey's summer vacation marrying Sally Field witnessing Robert Mitchum's amazing memory in a look back at the all star western, THE WAY WEST (1967), correcting a mistake made by Walt Disney, discovering that he could cry on cue while working on his Emmy Award winning Father's series, BLACK SADDLE (1959), and watching young Burt Reynolds get fired for an incident in their TV series RIVERBOAT (1959-61). All this and more from the talented actor/writer/producer McGreevey as he joins Rob Word and a look back for a special A WORD ON WESTERNS extended edit, from a September 18, 2018 interview at The Autry Museum.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: Matthew Adam Garber (25 March 1956 - 13 June 1977) was a British child actor who played Michael Banks in the 1964 film Mary Poppins. He appeared in only two other films, The Three Lives of Thomasina and The Gnome-Mobile, all three times appearing alongside actress Karen Dotrice. All three appearances were in movies by Walt Disney Pictures. Ten years after his retirement, Garber contracted hepatitis, which later affected his pancreas. He died of pancreatitis at the age of 21.

This episode warmed my heart so many times in those too short 23 minutes! Michael McGreevey was a such a great guest! The captivating annectdotes kept coming one after the other. And when the added bonus guest Bill Mumy joins in for all the great Walt Disney stories! Those kids were so lucky to be part of the Disney family back when Uncle Walt was still there, and made sure everything was running smoothly, and that every kid on his tv shows and movies were doing okay and "having fun". I was not born yet, but it made me wish I could have been there during those days of the Mouseketeers, Spin & Marty, and all those great Disneyland western series. My Uncle Dale went to high school with Darren McGavin in Galt, Calif. My junior year in high school I started working weekends at Pollardville Ghost Town, a tourist attraction between Lodi & Stockton, Calif., as a cowboy/gunslinger/stunt-teen in the old west shows/gunfights we put on every hour on Main St.. Couldn't really call it work. It was way too much fun getting shot off the hotel balcony, stagecoach , or horse...plus getting paid a whopping $1.25 an hour. Absolutely instilled my deep love of westerns I still have to this day. Worked at the Ghost Town til joining the military in 1970. Earlier in 1970 landed a night job as food server & dishwasher on the set of the Moonshine War directed by Robert Altman (M*A*S*H the movie). Met Richard Widmark, Alan Alda, Patrick McGoohan, Will Geer (Grandpa Walton), and Lee Hazelwood in his first movie. Lee had several hit songs out with Nancy Sinatra (Some Velvet Mornin, Jackson ect). Great guy, but here he is a millionaire with hit records and he kept bumming cigarettes off me. He smoked like a chimney, we smoked the same brand, and every time he ran out of smokes he'd come looking for me...an 18 year old dish washer. Got to the point I tried to avoid the mooch.

I grew up hating the heck out of them throughout the 70s and beyond because I guess my generation wasn't as much part of the time when Westerns were all over the place like the 50s and the 60s.. We were more submersed in Detective Shows and Comedies.. Rob,,, I can't express the joy you bring me from these interviews. As a kid I knew who ALL the Best Child Actors were. I've never seen Michael interviewed (or another Great Fave was Kevin Corcoran. I wanted to be Moochie in the worst way.) Thank you so very much for your XLNT work.

Keep 'em coming! I absolutely love your guests and the backstory behind the movies and television shows. Michael Mcgreevey continues the tradition of interesting guests. And it is always good to hear Billy Mumy going back in time.

Even though much of this footage was in previous episodes, it was recut and presented in a way that made it fresh and new. As always a Word On Westerns makes Sunday mornings a little better.

This gives me an excuse to praise Richard Widmark. A true pro who made it look like acting came naturally. I still haven't gotten over Rob's _November Noir_ series and recently re-watched _Pickup on South Street_ for the first time in many years. What a knockout, literally and figuratively.

I used to go junior high school with Brandon Cruze who was on Courtship of Eddys father. I faked sick and went to the nurses office. I sat on a bench next Brandon who had a cast on his arm. We didn't talk. I loved that show and bill Bixby

Rob, this interview was a great example of what you do so well. Insightful questions and guests who have so many interesting stores to share. As viewers and fans, we learn so many fascinating tales of back stage drama. They bring back to life in a way favorite people that we watched so many years ago. Always enjoy watching your interviews. And it struck me today that i need to share more of your work with others. I encourage all of your subscribers to do the same. Hopefully, we can contribute to achieve your goal and ours of keeping Westerns alive.

Some television shows were filmed in color as live short subjects for movies in foreign countries, but were broadcast on American television in black and white. There are color episodes of "The Cisco Kid" and "The Adventures of Superman" that were filmed in color for that reason.
