I got tired of the hype over most holidays a long time ago. There was a time when as a single person I would do something special for myself, maybe have a special meal or buy myself a small bouquet of flowers. But at some point I quit doing that because it felt like a gesture to soothe some part of me that felt undervalued, not appreciated, or less than whole. Then I realized that none of those things were true. I finally really knew and understood how it was to embrace myself as whole, as important as anyone else, and to be useful in my own ways. All this to say…. Valentine’s Day…. meh… much ado about nothing when we ought to be doing things every day to show others how much we love and appreciate them.
