That would've been difficult to do with Trae on the roster. To chose Jalen Brunson over Trae makes a lot of sense considering Brunson showed in the playoffs that he can put up similar numbers to Trae while being a better defender and being able to act as a vet in Team USA. They could've put Trae and Brunson in the roster but that wouldn't have been smart because they're both undersized. Instead, taking Haliburton makes much more sense because he is tall and can also play the 2-guard-spot and respects Jalen Brunson as a leader

Three things: 1. Defense - this being the major reason or probably the only reason. You gotta be Isiah, CP3 or Rondo level to even get considerations for being picked if you’re undersized and underweight. 2. Size - True he can target bigs but don’t act like he won’t be targeted by the opposing teams as well for being puny. Maybe it’s called black balling since that’s all he sees at eye level. 3. Let's point out Trae didn't get to be in the all-star game despite having 26+ points per game and was a top assister. You've got some players saying he's overrated and others saying he's underrated. He gets picked over guys who have only been in the league for one year. Sure his defense is shit but he's still a great player. Fans love to hate him. You gotta be Isiah, CP3 or Rondo level to even get considerations for being picked if you’re undersized and underweight. 2. Size - True he can target bigs but don’t act like he won’t be targeted by the opposing teams as well for being puny. Maybe it’s called black balling since that’s all he sees at eye level. 3. In my perspective they try to separate the scorer and passer in the point guard position. Tho they did have kayrie and curry in a fiba team some years ago, so i doubt the height mattered.

Let's point out Trae didn't get to be in the all-star game despite having 26+ points per game and was a top assister. You've got some players saying he's overrated and others saying he's underrated.
