OMG Same. I also hate that women's underwear isn't really made to last unless you ever so gently hand wash it in moonlight with the tears of swans. I wear jeans 99% of the time and I'm very active, so I needed something that would last. I finally just gave up and bought men's bikini briefs (without the "barn door" on the front). They're comfortable and last forever. I still have some women's underwear and a few "pretty" things but for every day wear...Hanes/Fruit of the Loom for dudes, all the way.

@Johanna Machara Österreicher - Kopfkino aside, you women are not alone with pinching underwear: men got the same problem, however, for lack of labia, it pinches the scrotum near the perineum. this, by the way, is in many cases the reason why men "scratch their balls": we actually dont scratch them, we re-position the scrotum in our underwear.

I am in the US and have been searching for the perfect undies for 2 years... The quality control is so poor here that finding things that are the claimed size, don't misshape over the day (I had some that turned into a skirt with an hour wear), don't ride up or slide down your tushy.... 2 YEARS! I so feel your rant!

I didn't really have that experience. Firstly I usually don't look at names but just how they look. I prefer panties but most suit me as long as they don't look like thongs. I almost never have the issue of them skipping between the butt cheeks (some tend to not cover enough upfront though and even slip in between the lips). I think it's a mixture of your specific body shape, peing a bit picky and bad luck in finding the right store and having an eye for what will fit or not. Also I typically try out the underwear in the store id it's a brand or cut I'm not familliar with - it's OK to do that that if you keep in your own underwear on (which may not be perfect but reduces the risk of picking something that won't fit or slip anywhere it should not).

I’ve worn the same brand and style of bra for about 16yrs. Don’t know if you can get it but it’s Victoria’s Secret Body By Victoria Demi underwire bra ~$42. They hold up to washings in the machine (not supposed to do that but I do) and even the dryer occasionally. My size is 36D and I’ve never had issues with straps cutting my shoulders, the back riding up, or any other problem. They last years so I feel I get my money’s worth.

I recently tried some from the h&m basic collection (they come in black or white), they are just low bikini slips. And not to tight at the hips so they won't create the love handle push up effect which is my personal struggle. I found two single ones at tk maxx that are better but it is of course the sale piece issue.

Hi Dana! I love your videos! I have been living in Germany for a little over a year with my own Mr. German Man. His name is Stefan and he works in IT (same as your husband, funny coincidence right?) I have experienced problems clothes shopping in Germany because I have a big curvy American body. Sometimes I feel like I'm a bit ''too fat'' for Germany. Anyways I would like to recommend shopping at the online store bonprix for your underwear. They have lots of booty covering options. My favorite is the ''french'' style, they are a lot like boy shorts and super comfy. I have gotten very comfortable briefs from them too. Good luck shopping!

It's been about a year and a half since American underwear manufacturers ALL changed the cuts and styles of their entire lines. Trust me, we American women are NOT happy about it, either! My favorite cut has been discontinued! I can't find my preferred style any where. They simply don't exist. I have found a barely acceptable substitute, but they aren't the soft cotton knit that I would rather have, or the right cut. I like the high-cut cotton knit briefs with covered elastic leg openings. It seems like they are trying to force us all into those gawd-awful "hipster" underwear styles that ALWAYS crawl up the butt crack!

I can totally relate to your frustration. As a guy i feel like this all the time when buying clothes. It's not that anything transforms into a thong. But i've got a pretty precise expectation of what i want - and the stores constantly change everything consistent with the changing fashion. Examples: - Trousers (even for men) have more or less all become skinny tight leggings-like tubes you can't move in. - Cargo pants have pretty much vanished altogether. (or if you find one, it's got this weird skinny fit, too) I only found an "oldschoolish" straight cut one at a work wear store. - It's pretty hard to find "thick" T-Shirts or sweaters anymore that survive more than a couple of washes without looking worn out. Some years ago my trips to the states served as last resort for extensive shopping of Jeans and clothes, but even there things seemed to have gone downhill with adopting hipsterish skinny fashion... (or the other extreme with overly loose cut clothes)

I've barely experienced this thong thing... I often stick to Schiesser / Sloggi underwear which is awesome... Or I buy some packs of 2/3/5 underpants in sale but there I often have the problem that the side seam presses into my hip skin which hurts a lot. So I prefer undies without a vertical side seam

Obviously men's underwear is quite different, but I am amazed that what I want is often unavailable. I want old fashion boxers in white. I want a tee shirt, in white. I can order this online, but if you look at physical stores. They are trying to sell me colors and some thing called boxer briefs. What is worse is that in places, such as Wal-mart, the sizes are all wrong. That is my rant.

As a guy, I have same issue here in Germany so I usually stick with American brands such as Tommy Hilfiger because that's what I used to raid Ross and TJ Maxx (yes, American name is spelt as TJ, not TK) as well as Banana Republic boxers when I lived in the United States. Thankfully they're pretty durable and long-lasting. I tried ones from S.Oliver, H+M, and other European brands. However, I suffered the Goldilock dilemma: one size is too big and other size too small without anything in middle. I was so frustrated at poorly fit and vowed not to bother with them anymore.

Same here. I've been wearing 501's size 27/30 (I'm short, I know) for more than 25 years. No other jeans, ever. Until they stopped making them in that size. I bought quite a few before they ran out but it's been several years and I still have to find a replacement.

Once in Germany I paid €99 for my Levi's (made in Pakistan).... in Mexico I can buy three Levis for the same price and better quality. Some of my favorite models aren't available in Germany, and the materials quality is different: softer jeans that don't last as the hard work jeans I used to buy in North America =(

You can often find everyday-clothing like jeans in unusual sizes for a reasonable price in workwear stores. Those stores are often located around industrial areas of the city, not in the city center. They sell clothes for all sorts of professions, so you can find everything from coveralls to business suits there.

Hi Dana!

It is similar for men. I usually try to buy what I know is comftable, but they keep disappearing and I have to start from scratch. I also don't like synthetics and a lot of the choice today seem to contain a lot of polyester, for example. On a different note, I tried buying new BHs (bras) for my wife for Christmas. I ordered 3 different models from the same manufacturer, same cup size and same measurements... Only one pair fit, we had to return the other 2! That said, men's trousers are the same, I tried jeans a while back. Same cut, same manufacturer, but different colours, for example, mean different sizes! The straight cut blue jeans 38", the straight cut black jeans 42" and they are still a little tight! Looking at a different cut of jeans, I could go from a fairy tight, but still comfortable 36" all the was up to a 58" that I couldn't do up, because they were too tight! I mean, how the hell can, from the same manufacturer, two pairs of trousers with such a difference in size not fit?!? If a 36" fits, the 58" must fit as well, surely? I can understand the smaller sizes being too small, that is logical, but that is ridiculous!

Maybe you have to switch to traditional brands? There are Mey and Calida, which are well established and good quality. They have lots of different styles. Sadly they aren't as cheap (starts from 12€) but are quite good! My mother only wears Mey underwear, because she has found that one style that is perfec for her. :)

I usually buy Tchibo underwear. Usually the most classic shape in the multiples pack. The packs with 5 different colours for the same panties are usually good. In general packs of multiples sometimes seem to indicate usable underwear. It acknowledges that you need stuff to wear every day. Unique panties sold by their lonesome can be fine, but they also often have something that justifies selling them alone, style, cut, matching bra, sexy, and so on. I will buy bras at underwear stores (though not only there) but I would only buy panties there if I wanted sexy our something.

Dana, I feel your pain. I was working in the Netherlands back a few years ago. I am a bigger girl. Jeans, underwear, and bras were problematic. As doing videos was not a thing yet, I wrote a ranty blog post for my friends. My mother read it and was mortified and called it TMI. But, anyway, I know you are right. I like my French cut underwear because it does cover my backside. I had my parents ship me stuff...a winter coat, underwear, etc. I did manage to make a good facsimile of Texas chili using local ingredients though! I have enjoyed your vlog! Thanks, L

Haha, no I don't have any problems like those but I do a lot online shopping especially for basics and can advise you the German shop of bonprix for that. They have a well-sorted low priced range of good quality and if you don't like something you can send it back on their costs and there is never a problem with the payback if you didn't choose to pay on account after receifing anyway. Normally I really don't advertise something in my comments but I just like that shop really especially if you just want to chill while shopping that I thought it could be a good tip for you, too. So maybe just take a look into it.

I like shopping at asos (its a german online store) because they have all kinds of underwear and you can get whatever you want, try it on at home, walk around as much as you like and just send back whatever doesn't fit right as long as you don't rip off the tags or make them dirty :D

Oh my god, I completely feel your pain! Whenever I try to find comfortable bikini underwear they always end up actually being those torture devices called "cheekies". They're like thongs, but with more fabric to get stuck in your crack. I really don't understand how some people find it more comfortable... I have had some luck finding a few pairs of simple, but cute bikini underwear at H&M and some Belks in Florida.

I understand your pain, sister. It took me a long time to find something that suits me. And that is Sloggi basic midi and nothing else. This new year a relative gave me a present, surprisingly panties she finds the best (strange type of present, if you ask me). I almost started to cry, because this panties just cold not do for me. Luckily there was another woman, who absolutely loved them, so with a lot of diplomacy, not to offend the present giver, I handed them out to her. Maybe you can try Sloggi basic Tai brief. Good luck, you will win on the end!

In America, I’ve always worn Victoria’s Secret hipster type panties since I was a teenager. About a year ago I bought Aerie boybrief and like them a lot. They do not ride up and are comfortable. I only buy cotton without lace. I like full coverage, non-thongs, and ones that don’t irritate the skin at bikini line.

Yep, I know this feeling. Won’t try to even buy underwear in a store. I found underwear that works for me years ago and always buy the same kind again since like 2010. It’s called "Hipster" by Vivance, I order them at OTTO in size 36/38 while my butt is rather like 44 or something and everything stays where it’s supposed to without hurting me! Plus they last for YEARS when I don’t wash them too hot too often, microactive sports textile is nice to the skin and the price (< 5 € per item) is really okay.

Dairy packaging in Canada is so so so so frustrating why is it all printer cheese (long thin blocks) and why is the butter in tinfoil and the sticks cost two dollars more??? I also live in bagged milk territory.... Which is fine, if I just want a milk jug to turn into a clothespin holder or for convenience and I have to go on a long search for one (gas station milk! Why!)

For everyday comfortable underwear , do not go to a lingerie store! Just go to a department store (C&A, Karstadt, H&M, even Tchibo) and buy the plain cotton "slips" (I never heard of "bikini Briefs"). They usually come in packs of 2-5 pieces.

Good underwear is easy to find but it's expensive. I buy Soma brand vanishing edge bikinis by mail order. They have little grips on them and don't ride up AT ALL. Ever. Even while doing yoga. Added bonus is they don't show any lines, even under exercise leggings. They last about 4 years if you don't put them in the dryer.

I think underwear shopping is a pain too. I used to buy seasonal boyshorts from Walmart with thick elastic around the waist and leg holes but they stopped selling them and in the last 8 years I still haven't found a variation that I like. Every pair I buy either rides up or works its way down after a few washes. It seams like the seams start coming apart pretty quickly too. you shouldn't have to rebuy your underwear every month.
