Why Ukraine May Have Used UK Brimstone-2 Missiles to Bomb Russia's S-400 System in Crimea

Ukraine has said its anti-ship missile struck a Russian S-400 air defence system in Cape Tarkhankut in Crimea on August 23. However, the Rybar telegram channel claims a UK-made Brimstone-2 missile was launched from a Ukrainian boat, and it did not destroy an S-400 system. There have been doubts over which missile was used by Kyiv to strike the target in Crimea, without being detected by Russian air defences. Experts say it makes more sense to launch a Brimstone from a boat, so that Russian air defence systems have little warning, than to use a Storm Shadow.

Oh it matters, different weapons have very different capabilities, and how effective they are for Ukraine is very important when deciding what weapons to focus on sending. For example, Brimstone 2, Storm Shadow, and GMLRS have proved to be extremely capable for Ukraine's uses, in different contexts for each weapon, while the much-hyped GLSDB has been useless for Ukraine and they have given up on using them altogether. For similar reasons, the JDAM-ER guided bomb that was so effective against civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan, has proven largely useless against an actual military.

The S400 recently blown up in Crimea was hit with a modified Neptune missile created by Ukraine. Similar missile used to sink the Moskva warship. I am sure Ukraine will accept any ammo from the UK but do not make it seem the S400 cannot be defeated without help from the west. Ukraine knows what they are doing.

The Brimstone has a couple of neat tricks that are not so well known. It is fired in a swarm and as it approaches the target, each missile interrogates the others so they don't double up on a target It can also be programmed to go after a particular type of equipment. As the S400 comes in 3 parts, launcher and radar and command vehicle ,the Brimstone could go after all 3 components
