Why Ukraine But NOT Turkey Can Join The EU

Believe it or not, Turkiye has been an EU candidate since 1999. However, despite trying for years, it has not yet been granted accession to the EU. So why is it taking them so long, and why have the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary and Latvia leapt frog into the EU? Why is Turkey still waiting in line?

It is not necessary for Turkey to join the EU. The economic gap between the West and the former Third World is closing. There are enough wealthy and free countries outside Europe. Europe has a different cultural identity. For the EU it’s better to be more culturally homogeneous, and thus coherent. Turkey can have a special partnership with the EU. But it can live well without being an EU member.

Turkey called on the international community to intervene but cold war politics meant they were ignored so they chose to act in order to save tens of thousands of civilians from being subjugated by a right wing greek junta that wanted to 'purify cyprus' and annexe it for Greece. This same military junta massacred greek students in Athens for protesting the dictatorship just a year earlier! Turkey made the right call to help. Turkish Cypriots then decided a government led by a foreign military dictatorship that called for enosis and ethnic violence would not be their leadership. They then declared the independence of northen cyprus and Turkey is protecting their right of self determination.

Turkey will not join the European Union, firstly because they are not white and secondly because they are Muslims. The European Union is a white Christian bloc. Türkiye's attempt to join is like running after a mirage. The Turks should stop trying to imitate the Europeans with their racism against other races in an attempt to get closer to the Europeans. They will never accept you. As for joining NATO, it is only to make it pay part of NATO’s budget and to be on the front line to sacrifice the Turkish people in the event of a war with Russia, China, or another enemy in the future.

One of those, has to be your home country (probably). As soon as the sultan gives the order, these countries are fcked from the inside. The point that I cannot understand is the visa issue. Nearly all South American countries' citizens can travel the EU visa-free. Even some of them are governed by cartels. If the concern is the security than the EU should reconsider the states that they granted visa free rights. On the other side, Turkish citizens can't even apply for visa, they are all closed right now for 3 to 5 months. Back in 2012 EU demanded us to open our borders with Syria and embrace refugees to stop their migrating to EU for the sake of visa-free travel but this has never happened. Turkish economy is collapsing not only Erdogan's extremely wrong politics also the bills that we pay for nearly 8 million refugees. We were scammed. Another big point is that TURKEY IS NOT A ISLAMIC COUNTRY. Turkey is secular. Also what video has never mentioned that the failed coup attempted by radical Islamist Gulen Cult who lives in US. We don't like Erdogan but if the coup was successful, we would be like worse than Iran. Erdogan is a Islamist leader which also aginst our constitution (The first 3 unchangable articles states that Turkey is a secular democratic social law state) however we are still secular, our constitution is secular (unlike some EU countries), live secular and preserving our secular values granted by Ataturk.

@@sergeybebenin Russia was (and is, although they want you to believe that it's no longer the case) a partner for EU. A perfect EU member candidature is a state with a timid leader and a weak economy, which ensures that they would do everything they're told to. Just as you said, they already have "an experience" with Orban (although I honestly believe that he just acts as a villain on behalf of EU, given that he has no reputation to lose). Erdogan is unpredictable and has a strong grip on government apparatus of Turkey, Zelensky knows how to play his role and Ukraine is far deep into debt to act as independent. Conditions like democracy, rule of law, low corruption and stuff like that are here just to look good. Once again, Hungary (and not just this once, so not an exception) just destroys those conditions by it's existence as a EU member. And the stuff like "oh, Ukraine is changing!" - maybe, but it takes DECADES to fix problems like ones I've mentioned. Even Stalin couldn't get rid of corruption despite being able to purge anyone he doesn't like without any proper process to do so. Darn China cannot get rid of this problem despite executing officials both big and small for their corruption. EU is heading towards a federation and in order to not become a failed one like Russian Federation, they need to be picky about the pieces. However, EU officials are still greedy, so in order to get their hands on the dominance over Black Sea, they needed either Turkey, either Ukraine, but not both of them. Ukraine is far more easier to control and has lots of fertile land and resources, while Turkey will take much more time to properly transform and the main advantage it has is it's people. EU doesn't need another "human farm" or "training center" - they can get qualified specialist from within (or from post-soviet space that isn't within EU) and regular labor from Africa, Middle-east or Asia. The choice here is quite obvious.

The Christian heritage of European countries has led ultimately to democracy and liberalism. The strong Islamic heritage of Turkey continues to oppose Western concepts of human rights (such as equality for women and tolerance of gay folks) and that renders it a very bad fit indeed or the EU. The peoples of Europe are very concerned about the mass influx of 'refugees' from intolerant Muslim countries. The last thing Europeans want is Turkey (with 85 million people, 99 percent of whom are Muslims) joining the EU. Moreover President Erdogan is an Islamist who is quite open about his loathing of Europe and the West. That is why we should welcome Ukraine, Serbia, Moldova and Georgia - also Armenia if they wish to join - and say NO to Turkey.
