Really appreciate your sentiments in this video. I'm a young collector of traditional knives myself. I grew up carrying Case knives, and recently got back into appreciating the simple style and beauty of these traditional knives. You've got a lovely collection!

There’s something about them that I can’t quite put into works but they make me happy in a way that modern folders can’t

One of the nice things about Case is if you're wanting to introduce someone to knife collecting you can get them 3-4 knives without breaking the bank and have them well on their way with a collection and if they decide its not for them they're not $1500 into something they dont wanna do. I also carry 2-3 knives but keep my traditional as my "clean" knife i/e cutting food or splinter removal etc.

That’s a great point. You can really get people a good variety of blade shapes/materials/etc to try with a few Case’s

Nice overview. I have 2 case knives and like them for what they are. I do a few reviews but have not done any on my slip joints. New sub.

I love case for the most part. They have had there issues over the years but when you produce the number of knives that Case does there will be some that slip through that have issues. If you get a bad one you can always send it back to Case and they will replace or fix it. People want case to be g.e.c. but g.e.c is a smaller company that have limited runs are more expensive and they still have there issues from time to time. I have been collecting and carrying case knives since I was five years old and i am 40 now. Also to answer your question about where g.e.c. are made they are made in Titusville, PA. and Case are made in Bradford, PA. A great resource for information on dating case knives is shepherd hills cutlery, they tell you how to date and read the tang stamps and have a list of all the pattern numbers that case makes. Great video take care . Cheers, Jeremy Bumbalough

RE: Slipjoint safety - If someone is using a knife in a smart/safe manner, the fact that a knife is a slipjoint will not matter. And really, you shouldn't do unsafe things with locking blades either. Blade locks can fail and when they do, they fail catastrophically. If there's something a person wants to do with a knife that would be unsafe with a slipjoint, then they are either using the wrong tool for the job or they should be using a fixed blade (and are probably STILL using the wrong tool for the job...).

Have to agree with you. I got sucked into the wow factor of the modern folders and flippers. But, the nostalgia of the classic designs sucked me in. Probably as that is what I amused to from my youth. Nice blades. Cheers.

I have never met anyone that uses a sheath for a folding knife but lately I've been seeing a lot of them on KZread.

I like carrying my traditional folders in a slip 1) because it keeps dirt/lint out of the pivot and 2) to keep the knife from laying horizontally in the bottom of my pocket.

I've always been a traditionals guy and have always called them scales on folders. Just get a big charge I don't get with Moderns from the Traditionals, that simple. Understand what you are saying about "the home team" I grew up (partly) not far from Sheffield England so have a fondness for Sheffield made knives. Of course like Case knives, get lot's of charge from them, just look at those "scales", no one does them like that!!!

The sodbuster is a hard use knife because it's a cheap knife. Also because it has a full sized handle, but not having bolsters means its most likely gonna crack at the scales at some point. But it mostly comes down to me being to scared to use 100 dollar knives lol

I’m sure they could crack under certain use but that’s why fixed blades exist haha

Maybe in the good old days sodbusters could be described as a "hard use knife" but today with the existence of lock knives and fixed blade knives etc, you choose the right tool for the job. I have the exact same sodbuster in amber jigged bone and it is just a lightweight EDC that sees no more action than slicing apples or making PBJ's. I would be very upset if the bone handle ever cracked. However mine came with the blade so far off centre that it rubbed against the brass liner leaving annoying scratches. It bugged me for a long time (had it since 2014) but just last year I decided to crink the blade to centre it myself. It involves laying the blade on a hard surface and hammering it basically, but afterwards I was surprised that there were no cracks in the handle and it's now one of my favourite knives, so I guess it is a tough little bugger afterall. 😆

GEC's are great if you can get them at normal retail prices, it's the secondary market that jacks up the prices to ridiculous levels. But overall I agree that Case knives are the better buy
