Ever wonder why the Toyota inline 6 engines last so long?
The Toyota Land Cruiser have has inline 6 engines, both diesel and gas for decades.
The 40 series, 60 series, 70 series, 80 series.
A inline 6 engine is simply has better architecture and build compared to a V6 engine.
The crank shaft instead of having alternating pistons on angles, has all 6 straight in a line.
This makes for a stronger crankshaft.
Not to mention, ALL Land Cruiser are built in Japan to the highest specs in the automotive industry.
Check out the video and discussion with Nathan.

Also have to remember inline-6's are naturally balanced! Gotta love all the benefits of an inline-6. They are silky smooth, good torque and power curves, reliable, easy to work on, easy to turbocharge, extremely strong block and head designs, etc. The only downside they really face is poor fuel economy and potential for the head to warp over time, but hey there had to be a trade off somewhere!

Their reliability is legendary that's a well known fact. But when it comes to off roading - specially rock crawling they are no match for the American jeep I suppose - I mean the 73s. Henry you are from down under? We do have diesels... just never got Toyota Diesels here in the US. I have 3 of them now and love it! we do have some grear deiswl engines but by 1998, EPA had many restrictions that took time for the automotive industry to catchup on thru re-engineering for emmissions. We have Cummins engines that are some of the best... I only elude to the fact that all Land Cruisers are built in Japan, to the highest standard... overbuilt. Built to be overhauled 3 times in their service lifetime... but cheap economy cars built in Japan... not same standard.
